  • Starting: 219 Today: 216.6 (-2.4...didn't report last week, but was down a pound from start then) Pushing boundaries w/ my "under 20 total" carbs (exceeded a few times), but eating to satiation. A couple of days the calories have been way up there for me, but trying to focus only on carb grams. Overall, I feel really good.…
  • Needed this thread today. Thanks for starting it, parkdad. :-) What brought you to living healthier?--What brought me BACK to eating healthier (been at lowcarb in one form or another since late 90's) was that my "give-a-*kitten*" gauge had been stuck on "I don't" for a couple-too-many years. Some significant life stressors…
  • Hmmmm...possibly. I can't/won't give up my BPC or dairy, but I could make the other two meals of my day plant-free.
  • Yup! At least for me. Stronger, lusher, fuller hair, too. And someone was asking about keto affecting grays on another thread? Didn't think much about it until I realized this a.m. that I am loooooooooooooonnnnnnnngggggggg overdue for the "temporary" 28 wash kind of rinses that camouflage the few I have. This is good news.…

  • I've not had this problem myself, but I've heard similar symptoms can be attributed to yeast die-off. Yeast issues are exacerbated by antibiotic use and fed by glucose (my understanding), so it makes sense that the antibiotics you were taking could have set you up for a yeast overgrowth, fed by the additional carbs you…
  • For the most part, low carb since 1998, just too much of it and a few too many "treat days" that often became "treat weeks." Oh, and the wine...yeah, the wine. ;-)
  • Agreed...100%!!! Physical movement/exertion that is done for other productive reasons besides just moving to move...that is my idea of exercise well done. I burned more calories mowing my overgrown lawn yesterday than I ever would've peddling my recumbent bike. ;-)
  • O........M.........G!!!!!!!!! And I don't even like donuts! lol Voodoo was very fun to go into, even though I'm not much of a partaker in the product they sell . My kids insisted on making a stop since we were driving past Portland on a road trip to the Oregon Coast. We stood in a line that wrapped around the block on a…
  • Yesterday was same 'ol same 'ol for me. What I was really craving was beef, so I had my fill of a very rare beef bottom round roast. I'm still weighing/measuring, but only paying attention to carbs. After my fill of yummy roast w/ aus jus and horseradish (went back for seconds), I still came in around my usual number…
  • Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh...VooDoo Donuts!!! Tell me you at least had the Bacon Maple Bar to stay somewhat in line... ;-)
  • Starting Weight: 219 Carb Goal: Max 20g Total This month I'm ONLY going to focus on my carbs, but still track everything because I want to have references at the end of the month to compare. When I'm hungry, I will eat to satiation. When I'm not hungry, I'm not going to eat just because the clock says I should. Exercise?…
  • Welcome! It sounds like you're finding your groove w/ low carb, so that's awesome. There is a bit of a learning curve when you first start out, but this board and several others on MFP are full of supportive, knowledgeable, truly awesome folks that are here to help. If you have questions, try to look through the past…
  • This will support what I've been trying to do lately, so yes...I'm in, too!
  • I think the "calories burned" under goals is if you commit to a certain amount of exercise (say, walking the dog, 3X per week = X number calories burned).
  • This was very interesting. I was always a little confused whether consumption of fats was considered "breaking fast," but according to this article it's okay and almost encouraged. This would put me into a 16:8 IF situation on most days, as I don't usually eat anything until 11 or 12 except my BPC. Thanks for sharing!
  • Dude...I hate to be the one to tell you this, but what you did today was (ssssssshhhhhhhh...not too loudly), EXERCISE!!! lol Don't overthink this physical movement stuff. Just walking your property, taking in the beauty you're surrounded by...that is the dreaded "e" word. Doing a few leg lifts while sitting at your desk at…
  • There you are! Hadn't seen your posts in awhile and wondered where you went to. You are a very good resource to have on these forums! :-)
  • I usually wing it w/ almond flour and crushed pecans or almonds + butter + sweetener (SF davinci syrups are my go-to). I only make enough of a crust to coat the bottom & a little up the sides of the cheesecake, so amounts would depend on the size of your springform or other pan you're baking in. I seem to remember that…
  • This is just about what my "Hot Slaw" recipe is that I use over coleslaw or spinach, depending on what's in the crisper. Mine doesn't use as much water, or a thickener, though. Just: * Equal parts bacon drippings and vinegar (I use apple cider), 1/3 cup each for 6 servings * About 3-4 TBSP of liquid sweetener (I use…
  • Lifer here, too. :-)
  • And this would be why my glove compartment looks like a squirrel's nest (ie:nuts galore!) You'll make it, I've got faith in you!!
  • I really needed to hear this today. Am having troubles w/ a friend who's been a friend since we were both middle-schoolers...so, like 30+ years. She is truly a psychic vampire at times and can be SO much work that it leaves me wondering, "Uh, WHY do I need this friendship??" The analogy of the toolbox rings so true. Most…
  • LOVE this. Dealing w/ some circus monkeys IRL right now...this is SO fitting. ;-)
  • This is nothing short of brilliant (because I'm evil, and I will be filing this away for use at a later date) ;-) I can think of no better way to make it abundantly clear to a "resistor" how negatively carbage affects the body...
  • This is awesome, and realistic, and do-able. Love that. Sometimes I think those original goals start to lose their urgency along the journey, too, as we become aware and grateful for all of the other positives that our lifestyle changes have brought us. The numbers just lose some of their power, ya know? Congrats on your…
  • I handled a birthday celebration recently at a Chinese Buffet by keeping the majority of my meal keto with a sampling of a few things that I knew wouldn't qualify. By filling up on keto-appropriate foods first, the couple of tastes of things that were off-plan (obviously some sugar in sauce, breadcrumbs in stuffing, etc.)…
  • I'd have to say that I agree with Kirkor here regarding the absence of carbs being the biggest indicator/predictor of ketosis. With that being said, I do still use both the ketostix and the flexible keto calculator as validating tools. I've read that when your body is "keto adapted" that your ketostix may stop turning.…
  • I use this recipe, deleting the sweetener/cinnamon, and add 1-2 Tbsp of sunflower seeds. I nuke it in a small, square pyrex casserole dish (about 4") and slice in half horizontally when done. I use it as a base for grilled tuna and cheese (open faced) and it is the bomb. Also makes a good base for hot turkey sandwiches,…
  • Remind me not to invite you to go to the dog park with me... ;-)
