  • I have found it very hard to stick to MFP's advised calorie intakes. I feel consistently hungry. So I have been exercising more, and trying to eat smaller amounts more often. Mid-afternoon is the killer time for me. I divide my lunch into a number of sub-portions, then take 2hrs to snack my way through it at my desk,…
  • 20%-30% are the best body shapes for the F in my view. My own M shape is around 30%, and I'd like to get to low-20s.
  • Mine aren't teenagers yet, but for me, feeding people with varying demands is about componentising the meal. So meat, vegetables, carbs and sauce. Then each can construct their meal to their preference from the components made available. I, for example, would go "meat, veg", leaving the sauce and having only a little…
  • Welcome to MFP. Feel free to add me if you like, even though I might not be in the demographic you're looking for. Loads of people above have given sound advice. My addition would be this: One exercise you should get into the habit of doing is in assessing what you eat. Not in a guilty way. In the way of saying "what's the…
  • If someone told me I needed to lose weight, they'd get a two-word response, the second of which would be "off"... Either that, or I'd return fire with an equally personal insult. "I can lose weight, can you grow brain cells?" But this isn't even a "fat" issue. This is an issue with modern society where people have…
  • I think the key to this is in the definition of "very active". You'd probably need to burn 500cal per day through exercise
  • My tactic is to pick a day of the week where blowing the calorie budget is allowable. That provides me with a release, which helps me stay focussed the rest of the time. I also try to plan my calorie consumption during the day. I like to drink beer in the evening, so I usually leave myself a thousand calories (of my 1800…
  • My word, that's some amount of weight you've lost! Makes my efforts seem pitiful! Many many congratulations. There was nearly a 21-gun salute in our house when my wife crossed a BMI threshold in the right direction recently!
  • Wow, that's a big target. I hope that you make it. I've felt benefit in taking control of my intake/output, and I think it makes it a lot easier to stay focussed on the goal. I also don't stress about the week-to-week weight change, as long as the trend remains downwards.
