  • Why does it have to be 200 cals? I'd be starving by 9am if that's all I ate!! I usually eat porridge for breakfast - it ends up just over 300 cals because I put greek yoghurt, honey, fruit and a linseed topper on it, but if you cut down the extras you could easily make a bowl of filling porridge for under 200 cals. Apart…
  • Unless the food is packed in oil I would guess the liquid would just be water and maybe some salt or preservative? In which case the cals listed on the can would be the cals in the actual food, not the packing liquid, so weigh the drained food.
  • Aww cute baby feet tatts!
  • Choose filling foods that are low in calories - veggies and lean protein are your friends! :-)
  • I actually think you're both being kinda lame. He sounds like an *kitten* for not wanting to spend ONE day out of his life supporting you instead of playing video games (what is he, like a teenage boy?!), but also you're coming across to me as a needy, whiney girlfriend. Don't get me wrong, I think he should want to come…
  • I've worn my HRM during Blogilates workouts and my calorie burns are usually a little less than what 'Pilates' on MFP gives me. I'd always go with the lower of the two just to be on the safe side. If you think you're burning more than you think you're burning on the beginner's calendar, you just wait til you graduate to…
  • If you're logging your calories in and calories out correctly then the only other part of the equation that could be wrong is the number of cals you need to maintain weight. MyFitnessPal is only a tool remember, it's not 100% accurate, so try reducing the number of calories you eat by a very small amount (say 100) and see…
  • That's a good one thanks! Yes, I am trying to get people to make healthy choices and form healthy habits - doesn't have to be diet or exercise related, it could be wellbeing or charitable habits too :-) Any others guys?
  • Bumping again! I need more ideas for 'snog' challenges guys! Thanks! :-)
  • One or two cookies for your daughter is fine - more than that is just greedy. One or two cookies for you is also fine, though if you're adhering to a calorie goal then try and fit the cookies into your allowance. - No-one forces you to put the cookie in your mouth...so don't!
  • That's actually a really good idea! I'm so behind the times but hubby and I have just finished watching season 2 of Breaking Bad and we're itching to move on to season 3...I hate treadmills and don't have one at home anyway, but I do need to start stretching more. I think I'm gonna do Breaking bad stretches - thanks!
  • If you eat the healthiest, cleanest most organic food in the world and exercise for hours a day, you won't see any weight loss if you're still consuming more calories than you need. Weigh your food, measure out portions, don't forget to include drinks and water, and stick within your calorie allowance.
  • On a 3-mile run, which takes me between 28 and 32 minutes depending on how hard I'm pushing it, I burn around 250-320 calories. I use a Garmin watch with chest strap heart rate monitor.
  • Another treadmill hater here...I prefer running outside because I like the challenge and variety of different terrains, hills, weather conditions (I actually really love running in the rain!) - and most importantly the opportunity to run different routes, be outdoors and explore the beautiful countryside around where I…
  • Proudly tatt free since 1982. I always wanted a tattoo when I was younger but I am SO glad I didn't get one. For one thing, I hankered after a lower back design...now referred to as the 'tramp stamp'... FWIW, I think artistic tattoos look really hot on some people, but usually only when you're young, fit and healthy.…
  • NO. If you eat too few calories, you will lose weight - how do you think starving people in Africa get so skinny? What's more likely happened is you're eating more calories than you think. As has been said before, weigh/measure your food and drink, measure out portions, log everything as accurately as possible into your…
  • As above, weight loss can be achieved without exercise simply by eating at a calorie deficit. And to do that, you're in the right place because My Fitness Pal provides an easy way to track the calories in the food you're eating :-) If you want to tone up your tummy and thighs, well you're not going to be able to do that…
  • OK back up. Did you decide on this radical diet change by yourself or are you under the guidance of a doctor? If you're under the guidance of a doctor, then these are the kind of questions you should be asking them. If not, a chat with a doctor would be a good idea just to make sure you are going about this in the…
  • Wow, good job 50sfit!!! You look awesome! My weight loss goal is to lose another 10-11lbs, which will bring my BMI to bang in the centre of the 'normal' range for my height. I figured it was a good target rather than just plucking a number out of the air! But, as others have said, it's not the be-all-and-end-all and can be…
  • It is physically impossible to GAIN weight over a period of time if you are truly eating at a deficit - unless you never poop or have some serious water retention issues!! If you're truly at a deficit, then you burn all the calories in your food, and then some extra from your body's carb/fat reserves (hopefully not your…
  • Congratulations on your weight loss so far! Walking and running are both great cardio and help you drop the calories. I personally prefer running simply because it takes less time! I'm not an expert but I would say you might want to start lifting heavier weights? The more muscle you build, the more calories you'll burn…
  • Yup, shin splints tend not to be a muscular injury, so stretching won't really do much to help them. They're more a stress injury, most often caused by - as others have said - too much too soon, or wearing unsupportive shoes. If you're doing the Couch to 5k program, great. Just follow the programme and make sure you take…
  • Great motivator!! You can EASILY be ready for a 5km race in July if you start in November. You could get ready for a marathon in that time! Good luck!
  • I respect people who choose that way of life, but it's not for me.
  • First of all - I hate to break it to you - but you are not unique. This is not a new problem. It's not worse than everyone else's. Your butt is like many other people's (and it's not even that bad!)! So get that negative body image thing out of your head right now. Nothing is ever so bad that it can't be rescued - but if…
  • This. Harsh but true. That said, I too find the weekends so much harder to be "good" because I don't have a routine like I do during the week. I've recently started running first thing on a Saturday morning (which in itself is hard because I looooove my weekend lie-ins!) but I'm finding it gets me into a good mindset for…
  • Instead of thinking you have to give stuff up and stick to that for the next 3 weeks, try to do something extra each day - and by that I mean exercise! My goal for this month is to do 30 minutes of exercise every day. If you're just starting out then maybe shoot for 30 minutes 4 times a week. Sometimes I run, sometimes I…
