  • I disagree that "stronger and fitter" = "healthy". Doing "healthy things" or even being good at healthy things doesn't mean you are healthy overall.
  • I think if you're overweight/obese and maintain a healthy lifestyle (e.g. but not limited to: eating within your recommended calorie intake, getting the recommended vitamins and minerals from your diet, exercising for the recommended amount of time and intensity, etc)... then you won't be overweight for too much longer.
  • When you say you cook fatty foods, what kind of things do you mean? You can probably still eat most of the things you like, just eat a smaller portion, or use less fat/oil, or trim/drain the fat/oil before you eat. Frylight 1-cal cooking spray is an awesome way to lubricate your frying pan instead of using oil (just don't…
  • In my experience the only reason home workouts fail is that they get old and boring quite quickly - if you're doing a workout DVD or have your own weight bench or whatever it's hard to stick at. The trick is to change it up regularly, try different things. I really like Blogilates (www.blogilates.com) - free workout videos…
  • Good luck with this. Personally, I don't think you will lose weight, but you might feel better for getting rid of junk food from your diet. Interested to see how you get on!
  • We had Photosynthesis by Frank Turner as our first dance song at our wedding :-) Seen him 3 or 4 times now, he's great :-)
  • The easy way around this is to make the same portion size for everyone! A serving of pasta is about 75g, so weigh out 75g x no. of portions and work out the total calories. Cook the pasta and divide it into equal portions - the number of calories will be about the same as all pasta really does is absorb water. If you have…
  • Drink lots of water - being dehydrated can make you feel tired.
  • Also: you say in your profile you hate broccoli but you eat it for the fiber. There are plenty of other ways to get fiber in your diet, so if you don't like broccoli, don't eat broccoli, eat something else with fiber in it. There are so many vegetables and so many ways to cook them that I honestly don't believe you when…
  • No, there are no alternatives to vegetables. Without them you'll be seriously deficient in essential vitamins and minerals. You could take vitamin pills, but the body sucks at absorbing vitamins from pills - funnily enough it prefers you to get them in your diet. - Suck it up.
  • It says I'm underweight by 2lbs. Absolute bullsh!t.
  • I wear proper running tights (is that what you mean by compression pants?) - they are tight to my skin and I used to feel self conscious about my big butt and thighs but honestly they are the only thing I feel comfortable running in now. Anything baggy just feels wrong and usually ends up working its way down. I also find…
  • My Garmin syncs fine with MFP and always has done, but I have a slightly different problem - now that I am also syncing Garmin to Strava (but note I *don't* have Strava connected to MFP), my runs seem to be getting logged in MFP twice. Anyone know a fix for that, other than just deleting the duplicated run?
  • I sometimes get that if I've been drinking alcohol, or if I haven't drunk enough water after a hard workout session, so I think for me it's dehydration or electrolyte imbalance. How much water do you drink?
  • No butter or spread on your sandwich? That will add a few more calories. If you could open your diary we might be able to give better advice/suggestions.
  • Yup. Only advice you need. If you just eat/drink fewer calories than you burn through your regular daily activity, you will lose weight. Exercise is a bonus, but not necessary.
  • You're in the right place. Welcome to MyFitnessPal. Set your calorie goal, try to stay just under that goal every day, move more, and - here's the thing - be patient. Healthy weight loss is slow going. You didn't gain that 117lbs overnight and it's not going to drop off overnight either. I don't have the link to hand but…
  • You should never cut out a whole food group completely. If you're intolerant or allergic to some parts of a food group then by all means don't eat whatever it is your body doesn't agree with, but you have to compensate with something else that gives you the same nutrients. It would be VERY dangerous to remove protein from…
  • 5lbs in under two weeks is great progress - but remember at the beginning of any weight loss program we tend to lose more because you quickly drop water weight as your body adjusts to a new regime. After that, weight loss will be slower as you start to lose fat not water (which is really what you want!). Overall you should…
  • It's most likely coincidence - you're exercising near to the end of your cycle and the period just starts on its own, it's got nothing to do with your jumping up and down! Also, you're only 18 so might not have settled into a regular cycle or flow yet, that's totally normal.
  • Progress motivates me. Every time I lose another pound, or another inch, or even have a non-scale victory like someone complimenting me, or dropping a notch on my belt, or going a little bit faster on my run, or feeling amazingly righteous after completing a workout...That. If I'm struggling with the voices in my head, I…
  • Yeah...let's not talk about Shakeology.
  • Your face has completely changed shape! Great job!! :-D
  • How about these until you feel confident enough to get them resized?! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ring-Snuggies-Assorted-Pack-Of/dp/B004U39CC0
  • Agree with all of the above... though personally I would see a physiotherapist or sports therapist rather than a GP as they have day-to-day in treating exercise-related injuries.
  • If you don't want to eat the sweets, don't eat the sweets. Don't buy the sweets in the first place. No-one forces you to pick up the sweet and put it in your mouth...or the one after that, or the one after that. You're an adult, it's your decision, your choice. Take some responsibility. I massively cringed when you said…
  • At the end of the day, it's your decision what you eat and drink - however much someone waves cake or chocolate in your face, it's still your decision to actually put it in your mouth and swallow. So, if you really don't want to eat the unhealthy snacks people bring into work, um, don't. I saw a really cool quote the other…
  • It sounds like complete BS to me. It's not healthy to lose 20lbs in 2 weeks, and most of it's going to be water weight anyway. The Max Planck name is probably just to make people associate it with the Max Planck scientific institutes in Germany, i.e. if it has a scientific sounding name then it must be scientific ergo it…
  • I used to be like you - I would sometimes go all day without drinking anything but one or two cups of tea. But then my mum (who did exactly the same) got kidney stones and let me tell you from observation that is NOT something you want to go through!! It can be caused by being dehydrated over a long period of time and…
