Slow/stopped loss

Wondering can anyone help? Know I'm new to all of this but...started last sunday weighing in at 17 stone bear in mind I was clothed, it was evening time and I'd boots on. So Wednesday is my weigh in day and I've lost 5lbs (but not really) anyway this morning I weigh and Im still the same. Im a little disheartened cos ive mostly ate to my calorie goal and ive worked my *kitten* off in classes. Should it be so slow?

I feel your pain, I've stayed the exact same for two weeks since I came back to it after Christmas. So incredibly frustrating!! Especially when my sister goes and loses 6lbs in a week (but then she isn't eating properly).
Enough about my whinging. I am trying to console myself with the possibility that I'm staying the same for these few weeks, and then suddenly I'm going to lose 4 lbs in a week, or something. Because sometimes it goes like that. And maybe that's what'll happen for you too.
Are you saying that last Weds you weighed yourself after only 3 days of watching what you eat? Or has it been a week and a half, and you're due to weigh in again tomorrow? Because a week can be a long time in weight-loss, and as (I hope) I have shown, it can be a slow start sometimes for your body to work out that's what's happening.
Don't give up, keep going Maybe we can check in in a week to see how the other got on?0 -
5lbs in under two weeks is great progress - but remember at the beginning of any weight loss program we tend to lose more because you quickly drop water weight as your body adjusts to a new regime. After that, weight loss will be slower as you start to lose fat not water (which is really what you want!). Overall you should be looking to lose around 2lbs per week for healthy weight loss, but weight loss isn't linear - it goes up and down, you just have to stick at it. Eat fewer calories than you burn - and you will know if you are doing this by weighing and measuring and logging absolutely EVERYTHING.0

The rate of loss you are aiming for is anywhere up to 2lb a week. If you read the stickies on the forum then you will learn how to diet properly and effectively.
Most of the answers to these why am I not losing questions are based around:
1. Eating more than you think.
2. Burning less than you think.
3. Weak measuring.
4. Not being patient and failing to appreciate weight loss is not linear.
How slow? It depends on your body, everyones different.
You have only been dieting a week.
It depends on how consistent your deficit. You need an aggregate deficit of 3500 calories for 1lb loss.
Your body will fluctuate naturally anyway by up to 4 lbs a day.
Keep doing the right things and learn some patience. It will come off of yopu are at a consistent deficit.0 -
Patience I think is the key word for me. I want it now lol
I'm usually around the 1400 mark for calorie intake each day. Then I have 3 fitness classes and aim for 10, 000 steps daily. So I thought I was doing ok.
I think I'm looking for a magic wand.0 -
I can go for a few weeks without losing and then lose a bunch. Weight loss is not linear and there is no magic wand. Stick with it and you'll see a downward trend (and THAT is what you should be looking for...trends over a few months.)0

- you need to weigh at the same time and in the same state of dress every time
I pick first thing in the morning, after using the bathroom and nekkid (you are tracking loss and there are too many variables if weighing in clothes in the evening)

- Congratulation on your loss
- initial weight loss generally incorporates a lot of water - so I'd reckon that would be around 1lb fat loss
-keep going weight loss isn't linear .. fits and starts, ups and downs you're looking for an overall trend

- good for you, keep going - watch how many calories you eat back from MFP exercise database (50-75% only they overestimate)

Slower the weight loss the better in terms of protecting your existing LBM and resulting in easier maintenance
You've got this - weigh and log all your food, eat a wide variety of foods including treats - keep on going0 -
I feel a wee bit pressured though. I saw a doctor before in the summer and for my condition she asked me nicely to see if I could lose weight by time I returned to her. (Research shows weight has little effect) anyway i was back with her before Christmas and she was very cross I hadn't lost :-( im back with her in May and I really want a dramatic loss to kinda in crude terms stick 2 fingers to her :-/0

you started last week - weight loss affects your general wellbeing if you are overweight / obese, it may not be condition based but your body is under stress by being in an obese category
you show her your MFP progress charts with slow and steady and maintainable weight loss and you'll be fine
you need to learn how to do this in a maintainable manner

Yeah for me I've learned over Christmas and last few weeks by doing what I'm doing is controlling my binging and I feel so much better. I have to start looking at the big picture. Thanks everyone for trying to help me :-)0
