To be fair, british people are a lot more frank than North Americans (i live it every day) and they may not take it personally, but i wouldn't tell a north american - we need a little more babying, and to be the ones to make our own discoveries. We have had this fat discussion over the holidays with various family members,…

Agree, that'd be HEAVEN. Cooking healthy stuff instead of GARBAGE CORN SYRUP FILLED SWEETS would also be a good start, and choosing perrier, or something lovely, instead of heavy drinks. I know we won't win at christmas since it's a time of celebration, but what about making a hike or a jog a christmas tradition...?

I second Tuna. Also oysters (canned) and sardines (can't do it but maybe you like them?). I do like a tin of oysters every now and again.

Fantastic, and a TOTAL transformation!! :)

Talk to the store and tell them you're losing weight healthily, and maybe they would extend your certificate? I would. I totally would. Unless you look like a slim girl who is bordering on anorexic. But if you're building muscle and improving your health, then go in, talk to them, and if the answer is no, you have some…

I like the idea of steaks (and any consumables!!) I don't like crap that hangs around like some of the cool posts above - which are cool, but i'm just going to lose/break/forget about them. Meat - get in mah belly!

Good luck! I'm still trying to build the habit, but let me say I grew up anti-running, and I wish to god I'd have found running MUCH sooner! WHYYYYY did I wait so long? LOVE IT!
-
I want santa to come and take away all the stuff i don't need so i can find the stuff i do. ;) And that includes bad habits!

I love the Y - my son had a membership, and all the programs were covered for him, so it made great sense. And you are supporting great programs. I do find it a bit expensive, but there are corporate memberships too (group discounts) so check with your local Y to see if your employer qualifies...

I've never tried it (to my knowledge) but my grandmother LOVED dog (with red sauce) and I have to say, we share similar tastes...

I'd add just because it's happened to me that the rule of injury free running is either 10% increase in speed, or distance, per week... If you go further there is potential for injury. I learned this the hard way one night during beautiful weather when i doubled my distance and did my hip in for pretty much the season.

Wait, dammit! Kosher or koshering salt (since all salt is generally kosher) seems to be lower sodium for the same reasons as sea salt. Bigger crystals. If anyone knows more, hit us up! NOW I'm CURIOUS!!
-
KOSHER salt has less sodium, approx 100mg sodium / 1/4 teaspoon. A chef friend told me, and I looked it up. (Trust no one!) So replace your home salt with kosher... I use flaked fleur de sel in my cooking because i pinch and control better, but often I season with herbs VS salt.

Nope, but go for dark and you're headed in the right direction.

I'm going to guess your neighbors might be tired of your roommate's ringtone too - those things CARRY! I'd talk to your neighbors, but also ask them if there's anything you can do to make it quieter on your end. And definitely get ear plugs. You can let the stress build by resenting them, but it's better to be proactive…

I have to laugh at this, when I was 19 I had a neighbor who came IN to my apartment (he asked) to install rubber stops on my cupboards, so that the slamming wouldn't bother him. What a very practical guy. Sorry it's not possible in this case, but ... I thought it was funny. We were BAD neighbors back then.

Yeah, my Dr says to track gross carbs, not net, but MAN i do like me an avocado (9g cho) and it's balanced out by its fiber. SO.... I kind of cheat, but I aim for 20, or 40 net. On cheat days i don't really worry, but try to be in the 100 neighborhood. And 1x a week I have a cheat day.

Rest up and feel better. Or go to a Dr if that doesn't work. Strep throat (and some scarlet fever) is going around here, you may have to wait it out. Feel better soon! If you can go for a walk in the fresh air it could help! ;)

I love this. Me too. Water (often with crystal light, because I like water, but i love crystal light.) Mmm.

Friend of mine does it when anxiety keeps her from eating - just to ensure she doesn't starve. So it's not her weightloss thing, it's her weightgain thing. I gotta get her some protein powder. ;)

Wondering since you like Saucony and Nike if you have MAJOR high arches like me... Curious!
-
WOW random, just checked your progress pix, and i saw you on rollerskates too. Maybe you're a derby girl too? :)
-
That's funny, thank god she didn't say something more embarrassing... Crazy times! I'd have been hanging around JUST TO SEE what all she got up to. ;) I am in a roller derby league with some interesting women, and i can remember going out dancing with a pediatrician. Boy can she dance!

I have to laugh at this - yes!! And I have special hangars for work clothes (nice black velvet ones) vs stuff i can't wear to the office. To remind myself that hoodies aren't OK in a corporate environment. Shame on me.
-
You look gorgeous, and it takes a lot of courage to do, so congrats!

I will say that the running store was good at assessing my gate (under or over pronator) and that shoe guides in fitness mags will give top lists for those types of shoes (ie if you roll you may need a more stable shoe, etc). Best luck to all!
-
You americans are lucky!! I think my Saucony's were about $180 at the running room here in Canada - but i'll be ordering the same pair online now that I know what they are because they are CLOUDS!!!
-
Good luck, safe skating, I hope you get to admire those paramedics FROM AFAR!

I look at the high fat numbers to check what they are. Dairy fats, not great. Avocados, coconut oil, olive oil? Not worried. So maybe start with that.
