  • As others have suggested determine your strength ability now and make a goal to increase it by a certain percentage over the next 8 weeks, or set a distance goal for running and work towards that. Both strength training and running will help you in changing your body composition and to lose the 5 percentage points of fat…
  • If you keep working, you WILL get better! I started with 15 minutes on a stationary bike a few times a week and can easily go for an hour or longer now (depending on if my behind goes numb!) Since those first few weeks almost two years ago, I have lost 70 pounds, I have run several 5k races, and am working on 10k races. I…
  • Are you measuring yourself to see inches lost, or just visualizing what you think is different? You may want to start measuring yourself or taking monthly pictures for comparison. Have you noticed that your clothes are fitting differently? Are you measuring your food on a digital food scale to get a better idea of the…
  • I agree with with gydment that you should try running at a lower heart rate - slower pace. I started out real slow and over the last few months I have gained speed without really trying to since I am working more on distance (10k.) I can't say that every run that I have feels good, some days I struggle and other days seem…
  • If I exercise too late in the evening, I have this problem too. Some days I can't exercise until 9:30PM or so and I stay jacked up all night. I really need to transition my workouts to the morning during the week, but I am not a morning person!
  • I have been logging my exercise, but at a calorie each because I don't eat my exercise calories. My calorie goal has been adjusted a little higher to take this into account. I think it really depends upon the person and what plan they are following on whether or not they are logging exercise calories or not.
  • The estimates from machines can be grossly off and over-estimated. When I ride the bike at the gym it says I have doubled and sometimes tripled the calorie burn that I get from my heart rate monitor. Most people will cut the machine and MFP calorie burn estimates in half when logging it into MFP to prevent thinking that…
  • You could probably post them to your blog for people to read with pretty pictures of the final product and the calorie information. I think there is a thread here where people post pictures of their meals too, but I don't remember the name of the thread though.
  • That's great that you are consistently adding time to your treadmill workouts! Are you using a heart rate monitor or MFP to estimate your calorie burns?
  • Since you stated that you are all over the place, maybe you can try to set up a scheduled eating time and create a weekly meal plan to help you get back on track? Make sure to weigh all of your food on a digital food scale to make sure that you aren't eating more than you think. You may want to try writing down the reasons…
  • Try getting a digital food scale to weigh out all of your food to make sure that you are eating at your calorie goal. Do you track every piece of candy, condiment, cookie, food, drink, or seasoning that you consume everyday? Are you selecting accurate entries when you log your foods to MFP? Are you overestimating your…
  • You look amazing! Congratulations on the weight loss and running a half-marathon!
  • I run at least a mile everyday. Two days a week it is done in a circuit training style workout, one day is a long run of at least a 5k or more, and one day is usually a 30 minute run. Some weeks I will try to run a mile as fast as I can to try and improve my personal record, but I am 60 pounds overweight and a slow runner…
  • I like salmon sauteed in a pan with sirarcha seasoning and crushed red pepper. I like my foods a little spicy.

  • If you get a chance, get a scale to measure out your food as it can make a huge difference in your weight loss especially when you get closer to your goal. Even stuff that was pre-packaged tended to weigh more than stated and would have more calories. You do this with 6 or 7 things every day and it quickly adds up to slow…

  • If MFP is estimating your calories, only eat back up to half of the calories. MFP typically overestimates calories burned and it can cause you not to lose weight if you eat all of the calories back because you are no longer in a calorie deficit.

  • Are you weighing your food on a scale? Are you eating back the exercise calories, or using MFP to estimate your calories burned from exercising? How long have you been back on your diet and exercising? What kind of exercises are you doing?

  • This, and are you weighing your food on a digital scale to make sure your serving sizes are accurate? If not, you may be eating more calories than you think. I initially had this problem when I first started and quickly realized that my estimates of portions was way off! Good luck!
  • What else are you eating the rest of the day to go with this? If this is all you are eating for the entire day then you shouldn't be gaining weight. Are you weighing all of your foods and liquids in grams using a digital food scale? Are you accurately logging all of your food, drinks, dressings, and condiments? Are you…
  • I find it to be a huge compliment because people are noticing the results of my hard work and I use it as motivation to keep working to reach my goals. The first couple of days may be odd because it will be the first time everyone has seen you, but after they get used to the difference most of the hubbub will die down. I…
  • Check out Backpacker magazine's website for ideas for camping foods for two and for long hikes.
  • I typically enter my time walking and then enter my minutes for running. I then divide my calories up between the two with running burning about twice more calories than walking per minute, but I don't worry about that part too much. Or, you can create the exercise for your diary and if you are using a heart rate monitor…
  • I like goofy songs to get me started, like "Juicy wiggle" by Renfoo, "baby got back" by Sir Mix-a-lot, "rump shaker" by Wreckx-n-Effect, or "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. When I am struggling and want to quit, "Let me clear my throat - old school" by DJ Kool always gets me back in the workout. I love the "you tired yet?…
  • You may want to try yoga and pilates if you are afraid that strength training is going to bulk you up too much (which is really hard to do unless you are lifting everyday and taking supplements to help you muscle up).
  • I agree with others that you should look into yoga, complete your own stretches everyday for about 15 minutes, and foam rollering can be great to help loosen up tight muscles which you may have from the CrossFit. I have improved my flexibility by completing yoga a couple times a week, dynamic stretching before running and…
  • Buy a digital food scale to weigh out your food and to help you accurately log your foods. If you are gaining weight you are probably eating more calories than you think and you can do this even if you are eating healthier foods. Your body fat% is good and shows that you are more muscular than fat and I am jealous! My BF%…
  • You can find a scale at Walmart or Amazon for $10-20 and you want to weigh your food in grams, not pounds to be more accurate. Use the scale to determine a portion size and how many calories it is and then you can see how much of that food you can eat based on how it fits into your calorie goals.
  • Weigh all of your foods on a digital scale, make sure you are logging as accurately as possible, try to pack healthier options for meals or quick snacks at work, set your weight loss to .5 pound a week since you have 15 pounds to lose, and add in some strength training to help give you a "toned" look (this usually helps…
  • This, unless you have a way to do some exercises inside the house to burn some calories to minimize the calorie consumption. You will not always be able to stay under calorie goals every single day, it is when you continuously go over your calorie goal everyday by 1,000 calories that you are going to have a problem. Also,…
  • I love mixing it with some Greek vanilla yogurt, reminds me of peanut butter pie filling!
