I didn't join a gym. I don't like gyms. I don't like how much they charge and some are really crowded. . I don't think you need much equipment. We bought a (cheap) treadmill which is great because it got me started and we still use it. We also have a (cheap) stationary bike which is ok but we only bought so we can do…

I follow Mark Lauren's You Are Your Own Gym (book is available on Amazon, app for Android and iOS available too) program. And I think it is great. There are 4 different difficult levels which each come with a 10 week program.

If you have an iphone/ipad/ipod touch or android, I can highly recommend the app. It comes with a timer all set up and it gives you audio cues! Great tool!
-
Like what? Check out marklauren.com there is a forum on the page where people discuss all kinds of topics. Including alternatives (no door?) to let me ins etc.

The ladder is a little confusing at first. You do one rep and then rest for the same time it took you to do the one rep. Then 2 reps and again rest for the same time it took your to do two reps. And so on... So you will increase time you spend on the reps as well as the rest time. And then you reduce reps & time as well as…

Hi there from Calgary (well, a bit outside)! Add me if you want.
-
Third level? Wow, that's great. I can't wait to finish the basic level and hopeful also see the difference.
-
I am about to start week 3 of the basic training and I love it so far. The first workout almost killed me though. ;-) How is everybody doing with the program? Are you on the basic level too?
-
I am about to start week 3 of the basic training and I love it so far. The first upper body workout was killer and I couldn't move for 3 days but it is getting better. Can anybody comment on the progression and how you are doing from weeks with ladders to weeks with interval etc. And if somebody finished the basic training…

I live close to Calgary. Why don't we start a group on the board? I am sure there is a lot we can do together and get moving!

Actually as a certified personal trainer you should know there are tons of possibilities to progress with bodyweight only. Classic pull up getting to easy? Do it with one arm or move onto salmon ladder where you move the bar up! It doesn't end with a classic pull up. Did you ever watch Ninja Warrior? They don't look like…

I broke my ankle once really badly and am scared of rolling and hurting my ankles ever since. That's one reason why I love my Vibram Five Fingers so much. There is no sole with an edge! And you can feel then uneven ground underneath your feet. I read a comment once saying "with the VFF it feels like I can see with my feet"…

Well, born and raised Bavarian here... If we know anything it's beer, sausages and sauerkraut ;-) Here are some ideas: make some spaetzle (Smitten Kitchen has a recipe or google it) and toss them with the sauerkraut. with Bratwurst (like this…

Great post. Thanks a lot!

I burn a lot too but I don't find it strenous. I don't sweat easily on top of it.
-
Wow. My HRM readings are already higher than the MFP database entries. I experience quite some DOMS after workouts so that would mean I am burning a bunch more the next day too? Geez, this gets more complicated by the day. I already have a hard time upping my calories now but this sounds like I have to maybe even increase…
-
Underestimates? Oh wow. I didn't know that. I burn lots with bodyweight exercises according to my HRM.
-
I did two classes and I find it gets boring very quickly. I don't break a sweat, ever. My last class was yesterday. And the above quote sums it up for me now. Glad it is over!
-
How long does water retention like this hold on? A week? Two?
-
I increase end of March gained a couple of pounds the week later and stalled since
-
Been at what?
-
I am considering upping my calories again starting today but I am scared. I am 5'8, 171lbs and need to lose bodyfat (roughly 30% right now). I lost almost 75lbs last year. Beginning of this year I was at 1200 but stalled and then upped to 1400 end of January. Gained a few pounds and stalled. Then upped again end of March…

There is a question: why is everybody so dead set on that stupid elliptical? What is it doing for you? To me it is a totally unnatural movement. Why use an elliptical at all?

I would say any Jillian DVD is good. I started with 30 day shred, also have ripped in 30 and the new kickboxing one. My favorite is probably ripped in 30. Go to http://www.collagevideo.com they have pretty much every fitness DVD that is out there and you can watch short video clips to see what it's like. They also tell you…
-
Something else... if you really, really want DVDs I would suggest Jillian Michaels' DVDs. They are challenging but I find her motivating and the exercises are a good mix of cardio and resistance training. Usually one workout is 20 minutes, so quite easy to fit into a busy day.
-
I would say as much as you can. There is hardly any overdoing with walking. I also suggest increasing time and/or speed overtime. You dog will be a happy camper...uh walker :-) Go out and have fun!
-
I agree very inspiring. Everybody should watch that video.
