  • I buy the NatureMade brand from Kroger/Wal-Mart. It has done wonders for my menstrual cramps and morning stiffness, too :)
  • My endocrinologist suggested I take 250mg Magnesium every night and that has helped me tons! Potassium and magnesium rich foods such as bananas and potatoes may help, too.
  • frozen fruit and/or banana :) edit: also, whole berry cranberry sauce added in is delish!
  • Bump...I'd like some info about it as well!
  • I think my hubby only paid about $10-15 for my mandolin slicer, and it works great. Without a slicer though, I'd suggest using a big, very sharp knife. Maybe bake or boil the potatoes for a few minutes to soften, let them cool, then slice away. Good luck!
  • Bump! Sounds delicous!!
  • Oh, there are too many to list :( Some of the ones that stand out: being in 4th grade some kid on the playground asking me if I was pregnant because my belly was so big, and never being able to wear jeans throughout elementary school because none fit. I had to wear stretchy pants, which just made things worse.
  • I started out (this time) at about 255. I'm down to 247 in about six weeks. My ultimate goal is 150-160. I've joined a weight management program offered by my health insurance and local gym. I'm currently working out 4 days per week (1 hour of cardio per workout and an hour of strength-training every-other workout). MFP…
  • I really appreciate this post. I met with a dietician and she recommended I eat between 1700-2100 calories per day based on my age/height/weight. I'm very comfortable with this number and sometimes I end up being under. I look at other people's diaries (granted, I dont know their exact age/height/weight) and it seems like…
  • Does the elliptical you use allow you to enter your weight and age? The one I prefer to use at my gym lets me enter that info and my heartrate and calories seem consistent.
  • I hid mine for a couple weeks and it helped tremendously! I was stepping on everymorning and I would get so discouraged. The couple weeks I wasn't weighing-in, I focused more on how I felt.
  • I agree with everyone else...lots of cardio and a good diet...that's what's I'm trying and hope it helps. I was always intimidated by personal trainers, but now I have one (we're meeting every couple weeks right now) and I couldn't do it without him! He designed a great routine for me and was friendly enough that if I was…
  • Thanks for posting this question. I've been thinking about talking to my trainer about it, because mine get numb and tingly when I'm on the recumbent bike and sometimes when I use the older elliptical. I recently got a new pair of shoes (Asics Gel) and thought that was it...but they fit well and I try to keep the foot…
  • 20lbs is an awesome weight loss! I totally understand though...I'm down a little more than 20lbs from my highest and dont see much difference in the mirror and all my clothes still fit the same. I can tell a bit of difference when I compare pics of me now and of me at my highest and some of my friend's comment that I dont…
  • Yep, lots of cardio and a healthful diet. I've been on my cardio and strength training regimen for about a month and my saddlebag area is where I'm noticing the biggest difference so far. Keep up the good work!
  • My trainer tells me that it is about the best cardio workout I can get on a machine. I did 26 minutes tonight, and I increase my time by 1 minute everytime I use it (I just started working out a few weeks ago). I sweat like crazy and it increases my heartrate, so its gotta be working for me :)
  • Good topic! I struggle with this as well, because somedays I'm just sitting at my desk for 8 hours and it's too easy to mindlessly munch. I drink extra water, chew sugar-free gum, or try to choose a healthful snack. I used to smoke, and I still feel the need to move my hand to my mouth sometimes (former smokers will…
  • Welcome to MFP. I need to lose over 100lbs as well, but I get so overwhelmed when I think about that much weight. I'm just starting an exercise program and healthier eating and for me, I just keep reminding myself to go slow and just stick with it. Good luck! Feel free to add me if you want.
  • Thanks for sharing. Please keep us posted...loose skin is one of my major concerns about losing all the weight I need to.
  • I wouldn't count it as exercise, just factor it in when setting your activity level. I walk a lot at my job (most days), and I'm always going up and down stairs but I don't count the calories I might burn from that. I also only have my activity level as sedentary.
  • I was recently, officially, diagnosed with PCOS as well. A few years ago, I insisted to my gyno that I thought I had it, but she wouldnt agree. I had ultrasounds done and no cysts were found. I have many of the other symptoms though (facial hair, stubborn belly weight, acne, irregular periods, etc). Aside from the weight,…
  • No, one day won't mess everything up. My dietician told me that if you go over on calories one day (say, calorie goal is 1400 and you end up eating 2800) you have the rest of the week to make up for it, so just eat at least 200 fewer calories each day for the following week...or, just workout a little harder the next few…
  • I was diagnosed as hypo within the last year. I had many of the symptoms already described here. My doc started me @ 50 mcg of Lexothyroxine and I felt sooo good. I had energy, body temp was better regulated, my skin and hair were better, and I lost 25lbs. After about 5 months, I felt myself fall back into my pre-diagnosis…
  • Maybe try a Danskin brand tank that fits pretty snug or some high-waisted undies to hold you in.
  • that is not a healthful way to try and lose weight!
  • I just figured out that you can list "strenght training" or "weight lifting" in the cardio section and it will show cals burned.
  • Oh my goodness, I think Aqua is the ultimate workout music!! The other day was I was finishing on the elliptical, "WORK" by Ciara and Missy Elliott came on and helped push me thru the last few minutes. Not a song I'd normally like, but they yell "work, work, work, work..." throughout the song and it was a nice push. I'm…
  • I've been wondering the same thing about unsweet tea. I usually do not count it in with my water intake, but have been curious if others do... I usually drink enough water anyway, just wondering.
  • I was recently diagnosed with HYPOthyroidism. I have a really hard time losing weight, no matter what I do. I just had my levothyroxine increased again...it seems to help give me a bit of energy boost. Good luck!
