I'd post agreement, but she might think I'm on the make.

It's a split routine thing. No trainer, though. I use a somewhat 'fluid' plan that originated back in my twenties. Loosely based on the Push/Pull idea. So. I got the treadmill set up and did what I *expected* to be a nice leisurely break from my normal work out. After 45min at 3 or so mph, I was sweating like an ox! Time…

I am most strict with my eating during the daytime. My theory is that if I lose willpower later on, I'll have less time to do it. So it's a regimental breakfast and lunch for me, leaving almost 60% of my pre-workout calories to play with. But I work during the day, and it sounds like you might have an evening shift, so…

Personally, I'd get started on one and get comfortable with it before starting the other. I'm a smoker. Quitting generally results in some weight gain. You'll be fighting a battle on 3 fronts: Quitting Smoking, Dieting and Metabolism Change from Quitting. If it were me, I'd probably get the diet going for a few months…

I am setting up my better half's treadmill tonight. It's been, umm 'resting' in the basment and I have decided to add Cardio to my exercise. I do about 15 min on alternate nights on a stair climber, but I keep the resistance so high, it's not good for extended use. It's really resistance training, not cardio, I guess. So…

It sounds true. Your body shivers when it's getting too cold and even if you haven't reached the point of shivering, I bet the body is still taking some action to ward off the cold.

The site needs more testosterone. Glad to see ya!

Well, I'm *only* a guy, but I say get a new one. Consider it a little reward for getting to where your going with your goals. You deserve to feel as nice as you can feel.

Hey...

Yeah, that's what you have to do is put it under Cardio. Problem with Strength Training is it's kind of detailed. How much weight, how many reps, how many sets, how fast, etc, etc, etc. For myself I lump it all under Cardio: Work Out - Moderate. (I'm hopefully erring on the side of caution so I don't think I am burning…

How nice to be in that situation! You must be exercising a lot. I have read that the max weight loss that is safe and healthy is 2lb per week for men and 3lb per week for ladies. If you stay in those parameters, then I suppose even 'cheating' the calculations would be ok.

2 pieces of pizza is really not too bad at all. The cookies... Hmmm. Anyway, a little over your allotted cals is no biggie. If you haven't discovered it yet, then liquids other than water will be the first thing you'll probably want to drop from your diet. I used to love tomato juice and milk in particularly, but it just…

When folks say they've reached a plateau, something I (and others) have suggested is recalculating your Daily Target (DT). I just wanted to take a moment to restate that suggestion. It has only been a few pounds since I last recalculated (sorry I don't know exactly), and the calculation has dropped my DT by yet another 30…

I notice you mentioned canned. If you go fresh you might have better luck. I clicked around the MFP food database for pineapple just now and canned in heavy syrup is about 200 cal, while fresh is only 74 per cup. Canned in water is pretty low; only a few above fresh, think.

I'll paste in part of something I posted earlier today: ...Fat is lost throughout the body in a pattern dependent upon genetics, sex (hormones), and age. Overall body fat must be reduced to lose fat in any particular area. Although fat is lost or gained throughout the body it seems the the first area to get fat, or the…

That depends; where do you live? Seriously, the group therapy aspect of this site helps a lot of folks. Take part in the challenges mentioned. As well as exercise, there are challenges for 'not looking at the scale' for periods of time, then comparing notes. All kinds of stuff. Involving yourself with other folks…

Darn right it works!! It's so nice to see some changes, isn't it?? I'm on the back half of the 40 I came to lose. That plus the last 2 months of pretty intense workouts are really making a change in me (if I do say so myself  ).

It works, good luck!

Good stuff for isolating muscle groups. Fat loss is apparently not targetable. http://exrx.net/WeightTraining/Myths.html#anchor7319578 Spot Reduction Myth Contrary to what the infomercials suggest there is no such thing as spot reduction. Fat is lost throughout the body in a pattern dependent upon genetics, sex (hormones),…

Well, an hour has gone by long ago and I can't delete the post. The first few replies seemed to get the humour, but I see it is being taken seriously by some folks. At the risk of bumping this back to the top, let me just say I was ranting a bit. I never intended anyone to stop asking questions nor to offend anyone...…

Welcome to the site! You are lucky to be starting before your weight is an issue to you. When I was just getting my 'gut' someone told me it would be a lot easier to maintain than to lose it later. In a way I'm not too sure about that. For me, that would have meant the past 10 or 15 years of watching my weight and diet as…

I think that is a very good point. I guess, as they say, there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. I suppose part of the trick is reading into the lines what is really being asked.

Ok, I'm about to draw the ire of the community, but I can't help myself. Am I the only one that gets annoyed by some of the questions that get posted? I mean really... (These are not drawn from any particular post.) "I keep going over my calories. What can I do?? Any advice would help!" "I have dieted before but I always…

Sodium kicks my *kitten*, too. I've had to drop a lot of stuff I used to eat. Almost anything prepared just has way too much. My levels are better now, but almost anytime I eat something packaged, be it a can of soup or prepared meat, I am usually over for the day. It should be downright illegal to put more DV sodioum in a…

There are differing opinions. There is a 'challenge' going on to go something like a month between weigh ins. (Can't find the link right off hand.) And others for weekly weigh in, etc. Personally, I weigh each morning at the same time. I take whatever is the highest weight for the last 3 times to be my "firm" weight. This…

I used one last year a friend got for Christmas. It was quite a workout! I'd be surprised if there weren't game-specific calorie-burned charts around by now. Tennis burns X-calories per match, Boxing burns Y-calories, etc... If there isn't, then there should be!

kj, do you mean these guys? http://exrx.net/ I'm not sure what a 'rubrick' is. ..? I'd have to study some to understand a lot of what they say there. I just found it useful for some stuff like stretches and they have some interesting calculators. I just discovered I'm 97% in situps, but 30% in push ups. I can't speak for…

I doubt you'll gain that much back in a day. I've been here close to 2 months and for one thing, you'll probably begin to want less at a meal. I can't eat the quantities I used to at all. Thus, your "7th day consumption" should just naturally drop. Speaking for myself only, I *choose* to have a "7th day…
