  • I am super curious about this. I'm a little hoping (but am not really convinced) that I might be able to "cure myself." I have heard of women whose hormones change a lot after having a kid. They either develop PCOS or they can seem to not have any symptoms afterwards. I wonder if anyone has this experience here?
  • That is how it seemed to me when I read it. I actually would really recommend reading it to most PCOS people as well. May also work well for some diabetics? Interesting read for sure.
  • Sure! Why not? We share everything else. It's really not a big deal in our house. Neither of us has been extremely overweight, but I am working to lose a bit more to put myself more in the center of my BMI range (not that this is everything!). He knows my goals. He knows my doctor's goals for me. :)
  • Some of it doesn't melt... There are some things that don't seem worth it to me.
  • When I read that book, I gained something a little different. Yes, she did say I could have more carb-y foods than my doctor. No, she didn't take into account that I eat vegetarian and so most of my protein sources have more carbs than most people have. I did find value in the idea of spreading carbs evenly throughout the…
  • Absolutely count them! They account for most of my diet, so I have no idea what my calories would look like without counting my veggies! It would look like I wasn't eating anything much.
  • I HATE that reproductive endocrinologists often view this simply as a fertility problem. Yes, that's what they are there to help you with, but it is a full body, full system issue. Perhaps visiting an endocrinologist that has a thorough understanding of PCOS would benefit you?
  • There are a lot of great recipes out there that don't have to be very complicated. Here are a couple easy ideas: Salad (you can make a bunch ahead or you can combine ingredients if you go)- my go to is 4 cups spinach with some blue cheese crumble on top and 4 strawberries cut up (quarters or smaller) with balsamic…
  • I'm a similar age and also trying to get pregnant. We started working with a reproductive endocrinologist just as my husband lost his job! We've done a lot of the testing and are hoping that he'll be employed again soon so we can get this show on the road (and, you know... Being able to support our lifestyle is a good…

  • If you decide to talk to someone for help, that doesn't make you weak. It makes you strong enough to notice you need the help. Get a team of helpful people together to help coach you on what a "normal" food intake looks like and how to achieve it in a way that makes you comfortable. (Although growth is often UNcomfortable…
  • I feel good that people don't say anything when I GAIN weight. Why would they say anything when I lost? Weight is a sensitive topic for most, so it's understandable that people may try to stay out of it.
  • This depends on your carb goals and what the rest of your day looks like. As long as you're fitting inside your carbohydrate goals, you probably don't need to worry at all.
  • That's odd... I haven't gotten it! Is it possible to send it again? Maybe I'm just not great with technology...

  • 32FF here. I just bought the Panache sports bra and I love it! Plus, you still have two boobs when you wear it.
  • Thug Kitchen Skinnytaste has a good non-meat section. Most are vegetarian rather than vegan, however.
  • Am I allowed to join, too? I really do want to!

  • I'm technically pescetarian (clearly I can't spell this word!), but I rarely eat fish. I love cheese. I really love cheese. Can I tell you how much I love cheese? Nuts, seeds, cut raw veggies all make great on-the-go snacks. I have to keep my carbs somewhat low and it's hard. My suggestion is to eat fewer fruits and more…
  • My mom bought me one in Mystic, CT that was really good! We still have some. Also a mint puer chai from the same place.
  • I'd love to join! There is also another one called P.C.O.SIS that some may be interested in as well. Just FYI! :) We all can use as much help and support as possible! :)

  • I love how much research you do! Impressive how deep your understanding is growing. I love reading your posts because I pretty much always learn something new! My doctor told me that many PCOS patients are insulin resistant. The way PCOS was explained to me, and from what I've read (not as much as you!), my understanding…
  • You may be able to put more spinach in a smoothie than you think. Especially as you get more used to the flavor over time. A couple good recipes that I like that include spinach: 1-2 cups almond milk 1/2 banana 2 tbsp peanut butter 1-2 cups spinach 2-4 tbsp cocoa powder 1 small package of berries (blackberry or raspberries…
  • I just wanted to let you know that I totally think you should make a group for type 1! I think you'd be a great group leader and I'm sure there are quite a few on here. I am impressed by you all!
  • You could try brushing your teeth when you get home! :) Seriously, if I brush my teeth, I tend not to eat right away. First of all, it doesn't usually taste so good to eat after brushing. Second, I don't want to lose the clean feeling. I LOVE the tea idea! I use it in the evenings, myself, sometimes.
  • Haha! You can go baording while she checks out some hot springs or something! :)
  • I'd suggest nixing the dannon yogurt. You'll do well using plain yogurt and adding fruit or fruit puree to that. It won't be as sweet and will help cut the carbs a bit in that area. Beans are pretty carb heavy, so if you eat something that has a ton of beans, you might need to back off on bread in another meal to make up…
  • You really don't HAVE to eat meat in order to lose weight, but vegan may be a challenge. I eat vegetarian and it's possible. To help with protein, I do eat a lot of eggs (usually 2 a day or every other day), but there are many other options as well. Beans, lentils, cheese, nuts, seeds (like chia), tofu/seitan/etc. If you…
  • My family is all far away. I totally understand how that feels. However, your son and grandchildren love you! I'm sure they want to see you happy and healthy in every way. Weight loss is really not the most important thing for you to work on right now. It seems like you need to feel confident in your own self-worth. You…
  • It would be a lame gimmick to sell a cook book, but the book is actually full of great content to back it up. Honestly, it's entertaining to read, but more importantly, it's delicious.
  • All the ideas here are great. I use them often as a chia seed pudding. I've also added them to overnight oats and smoothies. I've seen them in "nutrition" bars and have used them in "energy balls" that my husband LOVES. I have a friend that even adds them to her water. I love the texture of chia seed pudding. although it…

  • I agree that counseling may be helpful. You are, understandably, seeming quite depressed and someone can help you work through those feelings. I do know that your circumstance is nothing I've experienced. However, exercise and good diet can help with your state of mind as much as your state of mind can help with diet and…
