  • I think it has more to do with job opportunity than with legalization. Housing prices where I am have been steadily increasing for decades, to my understanding.
  • I'm with you there! I also think our numbers may be skewed because we have so many professional athletes and olympians running around! :) It's true. The weather is great and so people are out exercising ALL THE TIME! I may be one of the least fit people in the state. It totally comes down to CICO. We have the same…
  • I almost always become discouraged when I "make a mistake" and have a bad day where I eat WAY too much. I've learned that if I look at the overarching picture rather than the snapshot, I can see the direction and view every day like a "practice." Some practice days are good and some aren't so good, but as long as I'm…
  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! Everything I've made in it is amazing. Have you tried the lemon mint quinoa yet? Delicious! Unfortunately, many of the recipes are a bit higher carb for how I'm eating now (medical reasons). But I LOVE that book!
  • Coconut cream whipped with berries (put the cream in the fridge ahead of time so it whips up fluffy) These peppermint patties are amazing!: http://www.wortheverychew.com/?p=1475 SO Delicious makes a no sugar added coconut ice cream that I eat sometimes Home made popsicles. The mold enforces a "serving size" and you can…
  • I work in a program that has a boy who transitioned from female. I think he's around 14 now? I commend his family for their support of him. I admire those who are strong enough to stand up for themselves! Fulfilling your true self is important for every person.
  • My coconut flour also doesn't soak things up the way store bought does. I do use it in certain recipes, but not all.
  • Beans are really cheap. You can buy in the bulk section or in other dried areas of the store. Cook them when you get home and then freeze them in your freezer. In grad school I lived on eggs and rice. One really cheap and delicious meal (although admittedly high in sodium): A clove or two of minced garlic and about 1/4-1/2…
  • It sounds like you're joking around a bit about this. If it seriously bothers you, you may have to have a more serious tone to your conversation. She sounds super awesome, though!
  • If you have a medical reason, there can be cause to watch your sugar intake. I've yet to find a granola low enough in sugar for me, but I also shy away from oats these days. If you're looking to add protein to your breakfast, I'm not sure that granola is the way. You already have the yogurt and the seed mix to help you. If…
  • If you're able to find basics like vegetables, rice, beans, fruits, nuts... You can make lots of delicious, low calorie items. If you can't get good meats or fish, don't eat them. Lots of people balance a vegetarian or mostly vegetarian diet.
  • If it's unsalted, you can add it to smoothies as well. There are a lot of casserole-style dishes that include spinach. You could also make an Indian Saag dish.

  • This is why balance is so important. If I eat only veggies and never fats or proteins (is that even possible), you're right. You can feel like you're bursting at the seams and still feel starving! I do find I don't need as much protein or fat everyday as I originally thought I might.
  • I would love to be included in the next term!
  • This is cheating because it's actually chocolate, but you can control the sugar and calories in some ways and you get quite a few other nutrients: 1. chocolate smoothie: almond milk/milk/whatever, banana (or other sweetener of choice), cocoa powder...i usually add peanut butter as well, but that definitely bumps up the…
  • Some baristas will give 2 pumps instead of 1.5... I was trained that this way it makes the drink more uniform from place to place since a 1/2 pump can vary widely. Just FYI
  • It is a slower release, to my understanding. Instead of raising your blood sugar fast for small amount of time, foods like this raise your blood sugar moderately for a longer time. You don't have blood sugar spikes the way you would with a high GI food, so it's better for you. I mean... Anytime you eat you raise your blood…

  • 30 pounds IS close to your goal! You're so close! :) Also, I looked at your chart and it looks like you're still trending down overall. Just because someone else can do it in x amount of time, doesn't mean you have to. There is no race to lose the weight here, unless I'm missing something. If you want to eat more, you may…
  • I think I read that book! "the PCOS diet"?
  • I eat low carb for medical reasons. It's not necessary otherwise. However, I will say it took me 3-4 weeks to learn how to balance the diet so I could feel satiated. I was eating SO MUCH FOOD with so few calories that I was constantly hungry! Balancing my diet with more nut butters, seeds, oils, etc. helped a lot. The…
  • I'm also trying for my first. I'm not technically overweight, but I'm on the upper edge of the weight range for my height. I'm really hoping that working with my diet will help me, but I also started testing with a reproductive endocrinologist (that's currently on hold because my husband lost his job and is now looking for…
  • 20 pounds is nothing to scoff at! Good work so far! I'm far from figuring out how to fully manage my PCOS, but diet has helped me a lot. I've found when I keep my sugar levels very low (I'm sure some experience this with carbs as well), I actually feel less ravenously hungry. A few weeks ago I was on an antibiotic and I…
  • You have an amazing smile! I love that I can see your eyes better in your more recent photos! Very impressed with your mileage. I'm nowhere near that!
  • KnitOrMiss- Thanks for the love and long note! Not everything resonated with me, but I always love your advice and expertise. I actually am proud that I've been able to stick to a better way of eating for me for a long time. However, I actually did log the other day and my sugar and carb levels were higher than I had them…
  • Nope. It's no biggie. I wouldn't even compensate through the week. Just go about your normal day with your normal activity and workouts. You're not even 1000 over. If you hit your goals the rest of the week, you'll probably still be on track to lose weight.
  • I didn't read all of this, but there are actually books of breathing exercises for wind/brass musicians. You might find that they help you relax and expand your lungs as well as give them more power. The power won't be very important to you, but the expansion and steady work on lung development may be helpful for you!…
  • Raw! :) You have a lot of great ideas here.
  • Sounds like you have a plan. If she wants to do dinner again sometime, could you invite her over and cook for her or do a potluck sort of thing? That way you know you'd have a dish or two that you love and will eat and she will feel comfortable as well. I do think that guilt trips are not worth it!
  • I love cooking, but there are a few really easy and fast ways to get food if you don't mind a tiny bit of prep time and very very little to no cooking: smoothies cut veggies (bell pepper, cucumber, etc) guacamole (I just mash avocado and salsa together, so it's super simple) salad (get the pre-washed greens and then add…
  • Do you log before or after you eat? Also, is your deficit reasonable or too much? If you don't eat consistently from day to day (too little one day, too much the next), it can be easy to be way hungrier than you wish you were! On the plus side, one bad day isn't going to ruin you.
