  • Right now I'm super lucky. My brother is working at a farm and living with me. So he brings me nearly all my produce. I like the local health food store, shaw's, whole foods, farmer's market, CVS (they have good nuts that often go on sale). Basically, if there happens to be food around, I'm shopping there! :) Edit to add:…
  • I suggest making as much from scratch as possible. Buying flour, yeast, etc. may be a bit of an up front investment, but should last you a number of weeks. Making your own bread should be cheaper than buying. Also, save those veggie scraps and make your own vegetable broth. You can save it in a bag in the freezer (I use a…
  • My grandmother and dad have Meniere's. Their doctor gave them exercises to do (which they hate) and told them to cut their sodium to a pretty low amount. Meniere's has to do with the amount of fluid and calcium build up in your ears. Clearly we need calcium, but doing the exercises can cause the calcium to break off sooner…
  • Falafel! If you have a food processor and plan ahead (to soak the beans), it's an incredibly easy (and cheap) meal.
  • Not really. I never really ate it. I find the food I make over the weekend and have saved in my fridge is so much faster to heat up than going out to get fast food would be. I never feel great after eating it and I kind of love cooking!
  • soups can be a great low cal and veggie friendly meal. I'm currently liking a lemon lentil soup out of the thug kitchen cookbook (all great vegan recipes, FYI). If you shy away from carb heavy meals (like pastas, sandwiches, etc.), it can be easier to get the calories lower. Carbs are great, but it can be easy to overdo…
  • I'm guessing you feel more full because you may be eating more voluminous foods than you are used to. Eating a HUGE salad may be few calories, but can make you feel bursting for a time. I concur with all who have said you may be able to eat even more.
  • I don't mean to be rude and hope you take this constructively, but all of this sounds more like menopause symptoms to me than weight loss symptoms. When my hormones were super out of wack (still are) and I was starting to improve them, I actually had some insomnia problems. My mom, going through menopause now, has lots of…
  • So you ate a meal you regret. Happens to all of us! Don't let it make you feel like you are a worse person for it. Yes, you can do better and you have been doing better! Log it and realize that it actually takes a lot more extra calories to GAIN a pound, just like it takes a significant amount less to lose a pound. So,…
  • Good job! I tell my husband that he has to be the one to break his "family curse." In his family, all the men seem to die of diabetes and heart disease by about 65. Most have been extremely overweight and, very luckily, he isn't! However, I worry about his fitness level sometimes. Have you considered joining a rowing club?…
  • Could you do more lesson planning for the week over the weekend? I don't know how that works for you as a daycare employee. I know in my job, I basically lesson plan on the fly (because I never know how far my students have been able to go with their practice each week until I see them). Of course I have an idea of where I…
  • Thanks Dragonwolf! I'm inspired by this thread right now. I hope to add my own story before too long!
  • I make SO MUCH in my crock pot and also eat vegetarian. You can make your own veggie broth, I make chili in my crock pot because I like it well cooked and all that simmering does it good for the flavors. Chana Masala can be made in it. Any soup you can think of... I use mine very often.
  • The pit has been magical for me. You can even make guac and then add the pit back in and it does help keep the color. However, it's totally true that the fruit has not actually gone bad when the color changes. It just looks nasty.
  • Given the choice, I would still eat most of this stuff. Switching to whole grains has always helped me stabilize my mood and lift my spirits. Recently, I gave up all grains as ordered by my doctor although I definitely still eat many carbs (beans are often in my diet) and may not be "low carb" by some standards, I've…
  • Think about it this way: 50 pounds in a year is almost a pound a week. That's pretty consistent, great progress!
  • I do this, but I use half a frozen banana (I don't need it so sweet) instead of two unfrozen and a tbsp or two of peanut butter. I also usually use closer to 2-3 tbsp of cocoa powder. LOVE chocolate!
  • Depression is the worst. It makes everything in life harder. For me, actually writing a schedule that I had to stick to helped. Like: 8-9 practice my violin, 9-9:30 work out, 9:30-10 eat breakfast... Really write in the exact times. Forcing myself not to deviate was definitely tricky, but the scheduling did help me. Keep…
  • Nope. I generally eat when I'm hungry these days. I tend to stop caffeine around noon. I used to avoid eating a sugary dessert too late, but now my desserts are less sugary, so it doesn't matter so much.
  • I've significantly cut sugar as well and my energy level is so much higher! I saw a lot of weight loss at first, but now that I can balance my diet more easily (upped my fats so I didn't feel so ravenous), I am not naturally losing quite as much. Which is ok because I don't have a ton to lose. I'm much more interested in…
  • So many vegetables. Also, homemade soups can be great. If you make your own stock, you can really control the sodium content (which is my major gripe with other soups). I can usually eat two big bowls of soup and still have more calories left to eat in a meal.
  • I am a pescatarian, but eat fish...maybe once a month? So, I always tell people I'm a vegetarian. I have a whole host of other dietary restrictions that are unrelated as well and are not my choice. I'm very fortunate to have an extremely supportive husband. My new restrictions (no grains, small amounts of fruit, etc.) are…
  • I asked my doctor about Insitol at an appointment where she mentioned Metformin. I was thinking it might be a gentler option. She basically said, you can try it, but it's unlikely to do much. So, basically, I have no clue. I started taking Vitex cause it was on sale and I'd heard about it helping with PCOS. It hasn't…
  • I'm not shy about my weight. It's pretty normal, though. My husband and I share those things pretty openly and without judgement. We support each other losing some pounds and getting healthier, but neither of us is going nuts over it.
  • Myfittnesspal is designed for you to eat your exercise calories back. Some say the calorie burns are too high, so that's where you may have to be a bit careful.
  • If you aren't eating enough calories or eating way fewer than you have, it can cause headaches. I also get headaches when dehydrated. Could it also have just been a bad allergy day or maybe coming down with a cold? So many diet-unrelated options here. I also got headaches when I ate less sugar (I was eating WAY too much).…
  • Most people don't need to track their sugar. There isn't much need unless you have a medical condition. I do. So... low sugar, low carb snacks (some are higher calorie): cut veggies (raw is fine) cheese sticks salad cocoa powder and frozen banana blended (special dessert treat) guacamole eggs nuts of any variety (be…
  • I liked my moving comfort bra, but finally got a new one. I went with the Panache sports bra. I believe I'm wearing an FF in that bra? I LOVE IT! I hate that I have to special order my bras.
