  • Hiya. Im not on the natural route at the moment but I have had lots of success with 2000mg Metformin. 50kg (100lb) lost in 10 months with a low GI approach and lots of exercise. Facial hair has reduced significantly since introduction of Aldectone 6 months ago and it's now blonde instead of black. I also take a…
  • Eating 6 meals a day does require a lot of thought and planning, particularly when you're juggling so many responsibilities but it doesn't have to be overly complicated. A snack can be a yoghurt or 10 almonds or some carrot sticks & salsa. If you're pressed for time, I highly recommend batch cooking on weekends. I rarely…
  • Hi there. My story is similar to yours however at 21 I was put on Metformin, found it too hard, and quit, 3 days later. 9 years and 100lbs heavier, I decided to give it another go. It's been incredibly challenging at times but it's totally worth it. I've lost 99lbs in 8 months by exercising and keeping my carbs to less…
  • Have you been diagnosed with insulin resistance? Not everyone with PCOS has insulin resistance and therefore Metformin will not be an appropriate treatment option for everyone. Weight loss, on the other hand, is!
  • Hi there. I've lot 99lbs in 8 months with the help of metformin and a good exercise and eating regime. It was absolutely awful for the first 3 months and there would be some nights where I'd camp out in the bathroom because I was so ill (diarrhoea, vomiting, hot/cold sweats, general fatigue, weakness) but I was determined…
  • Aldectone is the best solution I found for facial hair (and acne). It slows the growth significantly and it's now blonde instead of black.
  • If you're in Australia, there are dozens of treatment options, both inpatient and outpatient, accessed free under Medicare. Have a chat with your GP.
  • I highly recommend plain mineral water flavoured with different combos of fruit. My personal favs are strawberry, lemon and peach, and pineapple, lychee and mint but there's really no limit to what you could do. The flavour of the fruit infuses with the water and makes for a refreshing but flavourful alternative.
  • Just make sure you do it at your pace and invest in some good shoes. I started running at 300lbs. When I say running it was more of a shuffle whilst I slowly built my strength and confidence. C25K was a great starting point for me.
  • Thanks this is a really great idea!
  • Thanks for the input guys! Much appreciated. You've given me a lot of food for though, (now I just need to find some food to eat). I do have insulin resistance, thyroid issues and other endocrine challenges so losing weight is always a challenge unless Im making a significant deficit but I don't want to be losing muscle as…
  • Thanks so much for your suggestions. I love the turkey cheese roll up idea! I am the healthiest and strongest I have been in a long time but I'm concerned after reading so much about eating your exercise calories back, that I am somehow doing irreprible damage to my body and metabolism. I'd much prefer to listen to my body…
  • Hi there, although I don't have the same challenges living in Australia, I am an avid believer in the home circuit. I do a combination of burpees, tuck jumps, lunges, skipping, planks, push ups, and squats and I have no problem keeping my heart rate up for a minimum of 45 mins. A skipping rope and exercise DVDs are also…
  • Thanks for your response. I feel so full as it is though. Any suggestions in how I can get higher?
  • Lots of cardio and resistance training and choosing good complex carbs has been they key for me.
  • Even natural sugars can make you fat. The body doesn't distinguish between sugar from fruit and sugar from chocolate when it's breaking it down although the benefits of fruit (fibre, nutrients, minerals) far outweigh the benefits of chocolate. I find the following explanation the most useful: Bear in mind that every type…
  • Seeds, nuts, nut butters, olive oil, avocado, oily fish such as salmon. I struggle to eat my exercise calories too and Im working out a far bit. Unlike most people, I lose my appetite completely when Im working out and on my rest day I am ravenous. I'm just listening to my body and eating when Im hungry as long as Im…
  • I second the wholegrain bread option too. Will keep you feeling fuller for longer and reduce the blood sugar spike. Also, full fat dairy, although you're not eating a great deal of it by the looks of it, isn't a great option for heart health.
  • HI there I am by no means an expert and I am a firm believer that you do need to work out what works for you but if you're struggling, i'd start by looking at your sugar intake and reduce it where possible. I know if I eat sugar (even fructose), I crave carbs and sugar like you wouldn't believe. Also, are you getting at…
  • Melbourne!
  • Another nut job/lier here! And yes I am working my way down from morbid obesity. I work hard to eat 1200 calories or more a day and I eat constantly. I've always cooked from scratch. I don't eat full fat versions of dairy just to increase my intake because heart disease is rife in my family. I have pre diabetes, so simple…
  • I have PCOS and insulin resistance, so not gaining weight let alone losing it has been a big struggle. With the help of metformin, a low GI approach and a heap of exercise, I'm pleased to say my weight is filing coming down. I've lost 33kg (73lbs) in 6 months.
  • I've never been a breakfast person either but I'm learning : ) I find a smoothie packed with good stuff is an easy on the go option. This morning I had a combo of baby spinach, celery, chia seeds, frozen blueberries, coconut water and some pea protein powder. Very very yummy and keeps me going all morning.
