Not a fitness item, but certainly needed ... batteries for the HRM and pedometer. There's nothing more annoying than being reading and finding that one of your favorite fitness items isn't. Might also add a gift card for iTunes if they have an iPod.

The stairs are also an excellent choice ... walk them, run them, lunge them, as long as you're moving you can't cheat them.
