  • If whining works for him once, he'll keep using it. When he whines, bring it to his attention and model the behavior you'd like to see. I've heard other moms say "I can't hear you when you whine. When you can ask for what you want politely, I'll listen."
  • Your body eliminates excess protein as waste. You're fine.
  • Went sugar free in February, lost 10 lbs. Went grain-free Primal in June and lost another 15. Weight loss has nearly stalled, but I'm sure I'm losing inches and feeling FABULOUS all the time!!
  • My 12 year old son has a signature line attached to each of his texts. I think it's perfect for this situation: HATERS = MOTIVATORS! Don't let this jerk stop you. Make it your goal to go at your workouts harder! Because if you're out there doing something to improve your health, you're a WINNER! And you're going to show…
  • I know that when I quit smoking, even years later, I'd have dreams about lighting up. I'd be so disappointed in myself! Usually the feeling would stick around after I woke up. Weird!
  • By nature, people seek pleasure and avoid pain. I eat Primal to avoid pain and discomfort, and it's an added benefit that Primal food is super yummy!! There have been occassions where I've accidentally eaten something with wheat in it (alfredo sauce thickened with flour, for example) and paid the price.
  • http://paleononpaleo.com/27-ways-live-non-paleo-spouse/ Good article. 27 ways to live with your non-paleo spouse. Good blog in general!
  • I read this analogy about a roll of paper towels. Image that's your body. Pretend that 4 sheets = 1 lb. When you have a full roll of paper towels, and you remove 4 sheets, it's not very noticeable. Even 4 x 20 sheets. But as the roll gets smaller, removing sheets becomes more and more noticeable. So keep on doing what…
  • Sorry. Chenopod.
  • It's a chinopod. Quinoa is related to tumbleweed and spinach. It's not technically a grain.
  • I love when I tell people I've eliminated grains from my diet. Usually they'll get a shocked look and ask "Don't we NEED grains?" I'll respond with "For...?" and watch as the wheels in their heads start turning. Umm, carbs? Fiber? Nutrients? Nope! I'm getting all of those things from fruits and veggies and unprocessed…
  • Short and sweet: no sugar/sweeteners, no grains.
  • Have you done research or tried Melatonin? I wasn't sure if the sleep issue was a new thing since you started Primal lifestyle or not.
  • Also, what kind of problems are you having with sleep? Since starting the Primal lifestyle, I noticed that my arms and legs were kind of crampy at bedtime. I did a Google search or a search on MDA, and started taking some magnesium supplements at bedtime, I no longer have this issue.
  • I signed up for MDA's email newsletter. You'll get 1 a day for 7 days that does a great job explaining the basics, especially the "why" of Primal Blueprint. I actually have the book, and all it does it take the 7 principals and expands on them a bit. After that, you'll only receive 1 email a week. Nothing overwhelming. I…
  • Sounds similar to when I quit smoking. When the urge for a cigarette would come upon me, I'd make a deal with myself to wait 10 minutes. Usually, the urge just passed without event. If after 10 minutes, you still can't resisit, then at least try to reach for the healthy stuff!
  • It's been my experience that you can't change old people. This is something that's part of her personality. I'd probably just try to avoid the weight issue altogether, and redirect the conversation if she wants to go there. And if she insisted on bringing up my weight, I'd probably say it's nothing she needs to worry…
  • I started the lifestyle in stages. First, I gave up sugar and HFCS. Did that for several months until I plateaued. Then I found out about eating Primal. I just gave up grains, and lost almost 10 lbs. Then I read Mark's book Primal Blueprint, and found out what my carb and protein should be and have been focusing on…
  • I'm very confused. You quote text that supports eating nuts, but then your words and actions suggest that eating them would be bad. Am I misintrepreting something?
  • I used Calorie King for a few years. When I started, it was $15, then jumped to $55. Didn't know it had jumped to $75. Wow! This site has all of the same features and functions for FREE! I also signed up for Spark People, but never got into it. It was busy and clunky. Not my thing.
  • Focus on your successes. Strive for progress, not perfection. Even if it's just resisting a temptation, give yourself praise for doing that because we all know that's pretty hard to do! Remind yourself of WHY you're doing this daily. Hourly if necessary. Learn from your mistakes, and forgive yourself when they happen.
  • Men are clueless. Spell it out for him calmly, if possible. Don't let him minimize your feelings.
  • We were always "cat people" but last year we rescued 2 Westies. It was an animal hoarding situation, and the owner had to be put in an assisted living facility. Unfortunately one of the dogs we rescued had health issues and passed away after a couple of months, but the other one is alive and well. We honestly could not…
  • I have a push up app on my phone. It helps you work up to doing 100 push ups. Just by doing this, I've noticed a difference in my arms.

  • I have a friend who logged for 676 days in a row, and one day she just forgot. Life went on. I'm not trying to minimize your streak. If it's important to you, then definitely maintain it.
  • Guesstimate's fine. I mean, you could calculate exactly how many calories Aunt Ida's potato salad has, but I'm pretty sure it'll at least end up close to what's already in the database.
  • This happened to a friend of mine while doing crunches. So I have a feeling you're not the first time someone's done that in front of your trainer and it probably won't be the last. Don't let it stop you from continuing to go!!
  • How do you enter your stride? I'm all about technology myself.
  • I'm just curious, Lu, what is that you do? Job-wise?
  • Katrina - Best of luck to you. Hope the times passes quickly. Didn't get to the gym again last night. I might actually have to start getting up early and going before work {gasp!} I'm doing well controlling my food, though. That's BIG.
