  • I'm doing great because I didn't gain weight! Had an off week and a half and was sure I'd jump up a few, but so far I'm consistent. Maybe I did better than I thought? I was out of town, eating a lot, but walking a lot and maybe walked and burned more than I realized? Anyway, just really happy that I am on track, no weight…

  • [I'm not sure if you are doing anything wrong. You lost 4 pounds in 7 weeks, which is a little more than 1/2 pound a week. I just think that is where you are at. When we start these "diets" or life changes, there are usually immediate results (your 2 pound loss initially) and then things level off. I've been on my program…

  • When I feel that I am not in the right mindset to lose weight, I try to just eat at a level that I will maintain at. A few hundred calories extra won't hurt. I also try to set a limit on how long I do that, like a few days or weeks. It is hard to be disciplined and consistent all the time and sometimes we need a break. But…
  • I only lost 1/2 pound a week during both challenges, and that was trying pretty hard. Still happy that I've lost 6 pounds since we started this back in May. I would love to do another challenge. It really helps me to stay on track.

  • I thought the 2007 to 2012 side by side pics were the most telling. Same weight but completely different fit body! It isn't just about the number on the scale.
  • Pear-shaped bump!
  • No specific tests that I know of. After my incidents I went to an allergist and got the skin allergy test. It is difficult to test for exercise induced allergies because it is the increased body temperature, caused by exercise, that triggers the allergy. For me it was shellfish, but with my skin test, I only showed a…
  • As a person with exercise induced food allergies, you need to take this seriously. Hives can often be heat related, I get those too, but when you mention the burning sensation, that is what I experienced right before serious anaphylaxis. It is not fun. I barely got myself home, and when I did, I was violently ill. If my…
  • BBQ is one of my favorite ways to have a low-cal healthy meal. We do corn on the cob, as a previous post talked about. One of my other favorites is to cut up some onions, red potatoes, parsley, etc. wrap it in foil and grill for about 20 minutes. Also kabobs with mushrooms, green pepper, pineapple, etc. I do BBQ tofu, but…
  • I kind of do that on Friday. It is the one night of the week I refuse to cook and so we go out to eat! I had been doing a long run/workout on Saturday so I figured I needed a little extra calories the night before anyway. And it does help to have a treat every once in awhile.
  • I still use a little mayo, but I add plain yogurt in place of most of the mayo for tuna salad. I also eat it plain or in a lettuce salad with little olive oil and vinegar for dressing.
  • First congrats to those who are doing so well. Happy for everyone, and it is motivating for me to see all of your successes. I have had some problems with consistency over the last few weeks and it showed on the scale. Stayed on track for the most part, but have had some days where I ate more than I should have and didn't…
  • If you don't want to go to a specialty running store that does gait analysis, then do this. It will help to determine what kind of arch you have and then you can buy shoes accordingly. You could get lucky and get a shoe that works for you based off of recommendations, but to increase your odds at success, I would do some…
  • I have this problem too. My left leg is slightly longer than my right and therefore my alters my gait. You would never know by looking at me, and I don't actually notice it, but I if I have pain/injury it is always the left. I've had achilles tendonitis, hip pain, knee problems, calf pain, etc. all only in the left leg. I…
  • I was diagnosed with adult onset and exercise induced asthma when I was in my early 20's. I'm in my 40's now. I've struggled with it all that time, but I've run 3 marathons and thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail. You have to work to identify what triggers your asthma, and figure out what works best as far as using the…
  • I'm 42 and started going grey in my 20's. I used the non permanent coloring for years and then decided to stop about 4 years ago. I'm not all grey or anything, maybe 20%, but the transition of letting the color grow out wasn't fun (I have dark, long hair) and I don't want to do that again. Honestly, it is hard sometimes…
  • Oh, don't feel too bad, I think this is common. You can get tired, or just sick of running a lot. I think that is normal and doesn't necessarily mean that you aren't ready for it or anything. I've done 3 and I always go through periods of being highly motivated and then times where it is just kind of hard to go out and run…
  • Congratulations! Feels good, doesn't it? I still have a few hundred to go, but not sure if I'll get it all in tonight. I was over 3,000 though and still happy with that.
  • I would say a day or two at most off for recovery. Does your app say to not run for an entire week, or just not do a long run for the week? A lot of programs don't have you doing a long run every week, but I've never seen one that says to take an entire week off. Just curious. A lot of programs, for the "long" run of the…
  • Yes, the goal is to burn 3,600 calories in a week.
  • I agree. This challenge and the workout challenges have helped me so much. I have been trying to lose weight for so long and I wasn't that successful. With these challenges I've learned how important consistency is for me and I've been losing weight slowly, but it is happening and it feels great.
  • I used Joe Henderson's book "Marathon Training: Proven 100-day Programs for Successful Finishes" for my first marathon. It worked great for me. I also read "The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer". It follows students in an Iowa college class running their first marathon. Both books kept me motivated and on track.
  • I would go for it since you have already signed up for the race (and paid i assume) and because you've been running for 2 years. If you've recently done a 16k, then I wouldn't be too worried about injuring yourself, I would just continue to walk/run as needed while you train. Unless the race you signed up for is extremely…
  • I believe it is an 8 oz cup, for a total of 64 oz a day.
  • And don't sell yourself short on that marathon. You may not be an elite marathoner, but you can do a marathon. I ran my marathons at a little less than a 5mph pace. Sometimes it was hard being at the very back of the pack, but that's what I do, that's how fast I run and I just kept at it until I did it.
  • A few years ago, I made the transition to minimalist running shoes and it took me months to get used to it. I was moving from a basic New Balance stability shoe to Five Fingers. I initially went out for a mile run and couldn't believe how sore my calves were because I was running around 20 miles a week at that point. The…
