  • I alternate between exercises - swimming, running & biking. To spice it up, I will do two different ones in the same day. The biggest motivator to me is to actually register for a race (5k, etc.). The embarrassment factor is a huge motivation tool.
  • Me too - I last 'checked-in' in April. I have stayed active, but my eating has been poor. Searching for the motivation I found here back in the Winter.
  • Stage 2 this morning! My morning ride here in N Dallas is a rain-event, watching vs. & drinking coffee instead :drinker: June was just 113.67mi
  • I actually completed my First 10k on Saturday (Cowtown in Fort Worth). WInd Chills in the 20's, but I felt good - 10:25 pace. I have done several 5k's doing Sprint Tri's, but my real goal was to do an Olympic Distance Tri & that requires a 10k run at the end. This was the first step in that process... Next Steps -> 20k and…
  • don't quit. You may notice I don't have a ticker. If I did, it would be depressing. I started (really started) Jan 5th. I was to lose 1 pounde per week. I should have lost 6 lbs by now. I have lost two. Actually - I have lost the same two pounds three times now! You can't quit. You know this is the right thing to do - and…
  • It happens all the time to me running. Everyone says my shoes are too tight, but they aren't. I also suffer from incredibly tight calves and chronic shin-splints. I think they are all related. I just got back from a 4.5mile run & the toe next to the big toe (my pointer toe?) still hurts. The balls of my feet hurt too. I…
  • TEX-Mex is a real weakness. The Chips 'n Salsa are hard to stay away from. The chips are insanely bad for you. Good Luck - I never seem to do well....
  • heather0mc is right - she will grow out of it. I was a major swimmer when I was young - then went through a period from about age 7 - 10 where I wouldn't get my face in the water (dog paddleing everywhere). I don't think the instructor is overly aggressive - though you have to be the judge there. When my sons were small &…
  • I've done a dozen Sprint TRIs - and have never seen a changing area (you will be going just about 90mins including T-Times). For Sprint and Olympic races – you wear the same thing throughout the race. I have a few friends that have done Half-IMs too & they didn’t change gear either. The marketplace for Triathlons includes…
  • I'm from Alabama - we used sliced vidalia onions in there too!
  • I have suffered shin-splints for > 20 years. Everyone says "they will go away" & "build-up your muscles & they will go away", "stretch more" or my personal favorite "just exercise through it". Well - When they got so bad a few years ago that I actually went to the Dr. - on top of pain releivers - he said reduce the…
  • I have found the following table useful.It is based on 30 mins of activity: https://www.health.harvard.edu/newsweek/Calories-burned-in-30-minutes-of-leisure-and-routine-activities.htm Activity / 125 pound person / 155 pound person / 185 pound person Martial Arts: judo, karate, kickbox / 300 / 372 / 444
  • I boil them, slice them & cook them in a baking dish. Even my kids like it. It is a total pain to do, so ends-up being one of those 'special' meals...
  • I did the same thing for super bowl weekend. Beer & all the bad stuff - while the quantities were not huge, the calories were ABSURD. I packed-back on two pounds too... It took me weeks to lose 2 pounds & a weekend to blow it.
  • My friends call me wierd but I absolutely cannot exercise if I am hungry. I don't each a bunch- but a cliff bar, etc. makes a difference. On long bike rides - I take goo (Tri-Berry) to eat. Basically anything to give me calories. Of course - it could all be between your ears. I haven't gone to a gym in years & absolutely…
  • that is a pretty puny cave - wait until Football Sunday w/ all the beer, nachos, beer, wings, beer, pizza, beer...
  • I have an F3 that I got >2yrs ago. I just recently (2 weeks ago) changed the watch battery. The strap is a seperate issue. My understanding is that the strap has to be sent back when the battery in it goes bad...
  • Runner's World has videos on their website for core exercises (Quick Core Workout): http://www.runnersworld.com/video/1,8052,s6-6-0-2,00.html?ext=Y&videolink=http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1243489102/bclid6520547001/bctid6541535001
  • Do you keep-up with your meals? Do you keep-up with your exercise time? I weigh-in once a week (Sunday mornings), and I have never measured anything. My weight loss has been slow. The first time - my wife was doing WeightWatcher's & I did it with her. I lost weight much more quickly than she did & I did NO exercising. This…
  • In a report today in Dallas Morning News - they talked about zig-zagging - where one day you may eat less calories than normal. They actually said it may help by 'mixing' things up. It prevents your body from getting too accustomed to the caloric intake. Basically they said it was good for people who are in a plateau with…
  • http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-241-286--13019-0,00.html This is just posted on runner's world website - I can now add to the list of things I have tried...
  • For the last four years I have "managed" the pain of shin splints. I have had them on & off since I was in college. Here is what I have tried... (1) I have tried to run through them. This ended in a Orthopedic Dr's visit. Continuing can result in stress fractures. DON'T DO IT. (2) I have downloaded more 'stretching'…
  • I have used a Polar FS3 for a few years. It doesn't give calories burned - just heart-rate. The heart-rate tables that you can find anywhere on the internet are not at all accurate for me. I have a higher heart-rate than they show. Lifetime Fitness used to have one on their website that I downloaded some time ago. The…
