What is wrong with me?

I go to workout and I do perfect the first 10 minutes and then as soon as the timer hits 10 minutes I literally feel out of breath and then after 20 min I feel dizzy. I would think I would have gotten used to the exercise by now but I've been working out like every other day consistently for 2 weeks now and its the same thing. It's only at the gym too. If I do a workout DVD I feel great afterwards (How I expect you should feel after a workout) but if i'm on gym equipment I feel sick and dizzy afterwards. What's wrong here????

Lacking hydration?
Pushing it too hard?
Other possibly serious issues?
I'd get that checked out by a doctor, dearie. :flowerforyou:0 -
What kind of exercise are you doing at the gym?0
-
getting dizzy etc you may be working too hard....see what happens with slowing down.....do you check your pulse? you can do it manually to get a ball park....BE CAREFUL...if it persists after slowing down, see your MD0

how's the temp in there? I used to go to gym with no airconditioning. They just had the windows open all the time and most of the time that was fine. But I remember one day it was so hot, I all but fainted during my workout.0

Something is limiting you, whether it's your glucose levels, anemia, whatever, it's a message to make you slow down before you pass out. It's probably nothing, but you should definately get a blood workup and an overall checkup.0

Ok, the first most obvious thing is if you are getting dizzy you should probably see a doctor and have some sort of stress test done, it is possible that your heart is not enjoying your activity.
If all that checks out ok, I would get a HRM and make sure you are not going out to hard, and make sure you warm up first and then try to keep your HR at a level that you can sustain.0 -

pre-workout carb/protein
post workout carb/protein
plenty of water well before your workouts and keeping it very handy during and plenty after.
Have you tried other machines to compare, perhaps it's just that type of machine and your body says 10 minutes is fine for now, someone mentioned temps.. keep the workout clothes light so you don't get to hot, sweating is great but over-heating is not! Nothing wrong with doing a bit on the machine and getting your water bottle filled up and then working out a bit more then more water.
Just some thougths that might help if you're not already doing that.:flowerforyou:0 -
Maybe try eating something or skim milk before0

There's a reason why every commercial diet suggests that you check with your doctor first. This is it.0

My friends call me wierd but I absolutely cannot exercise if I am hungry. I don't each a bunch- but a cliff bar, etc. makes a difference. On long bike rides - I take goo (Tri-Berry) to eat. Basically anything to give me calories.
Of course - it could all be between your ears. I haven't gone to a gym in years & absolutely avoid training with anyone (I am either very self-concious or very vain :noway: ).0 -

There's a difference between lethargy - feeling like you don't have enough energy to keep going - and being out of breath and dizzy.
If you have trouble breathing and/or feel dizzy, you need to go to the doctor. End of story.0 -
I've tried all the machines. It's all the same thing, kind of. If I'm on an elliptical I can at least suffer through a whole 30 minutes but today I went on the treadmill and I could barely get through 15 minutes so I moved to a bike and finished out my cardio. The problem is though, I don't burn enough cals on a bike so it's like I didn't do anything at all and then I just wasted my time.
The temperature is not a problem. There's air conditioning and everything. I drink water all through out my workout and before so I don't think thats it either. I eat a bit before and all that too.0 -
Are you working out on an empty stomach? I get like that if my blood sugar is low. Maybe try to eat a protein bar 10-15 minutes before you work out. I would also recondmend Yoga, in order to practice your breathing. Otherwise you may need to consult your doctor as your heart rate may be getting to high for your body to handle. Good luck!0

It really amazes me that someone can post something like the original here and we (including me) play Doctor and give advice to someone who is in a situation we know very little about......we...as in WE ..all need to be careful ingiving advice to someone who sounds like they are working put way too hard or something serious...having trouble breathing and getting dizzy should not be taken lightly...Yellow Pepper reminded me of what we were doing...so...go to the Dr. end of story
(p.s. this is said with good intentions to myself also so take it in the spirit intended even if my words are clumsy)0 -
Thank you, Dave.0

Hmm I think your doing to much to fast try 30minutes on the bike and dont worry about how many calories you burn just see if you can get through it. I know it took me time as well to build up stamina..I started at 273 and it really took my body a month to be able to really do anything that made me sweat...If you push yourself to do the other machines it may lead to failure so do something your comfortable with and know you can complete..If all you can do is 15 then do the 15 and dont push further..do the bike for the remainder and gradually increase ......have you tried doing the bike for 30minutes then walking slowly on the treadmill for 10 ?........Stop looking at the calories your burning...instead look at the activity yur gaining....even if its just the bike 30min 3 times a week.0
