Take a 15 minute walk :)

I have disassociated the number on the scale from success. And as soon as I was able to do that, I stopped giving up every time there was a temporary gain on my scale. I consider things that are under my control my success criteria. For example, I consider myself succesful if I eat within my calorie goal, drink enough…

Walking is great for people just starting out.

I have the exact opposite problem. I lose in my legs and hips, but not so much in my tummy, so now, after having lost 60 lbs, I feel like my tummy is disproportionately big compared to my lower body. I'd rather have your problem. Huge tummy just looks yucky!

o man, i laughed so much while reading this!

The exact same thing happened to me. Had an HRM (and loved it). Now have a fitbit and love it. Wear the fitbit all day, but the HRM during my workouts only.

Suggestion for low impact cardio: swim, walk, yoga, elliptical, bike.

I am now in my 170s (never thought I would be able to say this because it seemed so far away when I was at my highest). And I will eventually like to be in the 130s. So feel free to add me if you want. Best of luck!

Hi there, Congratulations on taking the first step in being healthy by joining this site and reaching out for help. I have been doing this for a while now (11months) and have lost 59 lbs, and the following things have really helped me, and you can try them out as well: 1. Stop giving up. Patience is key. Your weight loss…

"You can't eat like that and look like this". Anytime I feel tempted to eat poorly (how I used to eat 59 lbs ago), I tell myself this. It helps me make good choices about food everyday.

"This too shall pass." This quote has helped me through many tough times.

Hey there, I am like you, I do not like vigorous exercises. I have managed to lose 59 lbs by doing a mix of vigorous cardio (Zumba) and moderate cardio exercises (elliptical, walking, swimming). I also weight train 2-3 times a week. Overall, this has worked really well for me. In addition to losing weight, I feel like my…

I have never doen ambulance shift work, so I cannot speak specifically to that situation. However, when I have to be out and about for a long time, I pack the following so that I do not succumb to temptation: - hard boiled eggs - cheese - peanut butter (in squeeze packs) - almond butter (in squeeze packs) - nuts - granola…

I get my protein from the following sources: Chicken breast. Ground turkey. Shrimp. Eggs. Egg whites. White fish. Low fat cheese (in moderation). Low fat Greek yogurt (in moderation). Beef (in moderation) Salmon (in moderation)

Peanut butter PAM spray Eggs Sausage/other breakfast meat/Turkey bacon Strawberries/blueberries/raspberries Greek yogurt Mix and match to stay around 300 calories :)

Hi, the pot pie you ate for breakfast was 630 calories. Instead, you could eat something like this: 3oz of grilled chicken breast (110 calories) 2 large eggs, boiled or fried with PAM spray (140 calories) 1 slice of toast (80 calories). If you ate the above, you would be full on only 330 calories. So, the trick is to find…

I got my fitbit in February 2012, and have gotten at least 10,000 steps since then almost every day (with a couple of exceptions when I was sick). I employ the following techniques during the day: 1. Every step counts: a. Park my car in the farthest spot b. Get up from my desk and walk to the kitchen, bathroom, etc. as…

Good goals. However, there's still 2 weeks left of May. If I were you, I would start on the goals now, instead of waiting until June. No point in delaying, right?

Great job!

In my experience, weight loss isn't always exact science. What I do is play with calories eaten and exercise so that I am not hungry but I still lose. If I were you, I would try eating 1400, 1500, 1600 etc for a couple of weeks at a time and see which one yields the best results. Figuring it out for myself was the best…

Sounds delicious. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing. I will have to try this sometime.

This is great. I completely understand where you are coming from. After 4 weeks of thinking like this, I have finally been back on track for 5 days now. I know you can do it too. Best of luck, and thanks for sharing the picture.

You can add me if you wish. I am your age, and also work at a software company. I have lost 56lbs so far, but still have another 20ish to lose.

I was very disappointed when I first got my HRM as well. My zumba instructor had told me we were burning somewhere between 600-1000 calories every hour. However, even when I was working very hard, my HRM said I was only burning around 400 calories an hour. I believe the HRM though (deficits calculated with the HRM match up…
