I think you did fine. I find it worse to not eat if I am that hungry. Then I feel like I am starving and will gorge later. If you are hungry, there is nothing wrong with a snack. I bring a sandwich (usually ham and low fat cheese w/ mustard and veggies), yogurt, fruit and/or veggies as a side, and maybe some nuts. I put it in a small cooler with an ice pack and it is fine.
