Strength training will give you the toned look. I've been running for nine years, but I only started actually looking like I had some muscle definition when I took up kettlebells a year ago.
-
If it's just DOMS, then yes, I always run, it actually helps loosen up the muscles. If I'm quite sore, then I'll just have an easy run.
-
Yes, it is pretty close which is why I said it was fairly accurate, but can be a little out, as in it's not exact!

I wear Asics for running, and I have to go up a whole size. I used to only go up half a size, but the later models are a smaller fit, so now go up a whole size. I don't know how different running shoes would be to wrestling ones though.

I use MapmyRun, it's fairly accurate if the gps behaves, but when I have used it on a 10k race, it once said I'd done 6.5 miles, whereas my Garmin said 10k, so it can be a little out. I wouldn't trust it 100%, so go by the track.

I can go down and get back up with no help easily, I guess all the kettlebells and running I do helps!

I have always run alone in the dark, though now my daughter runs with me. I don't tend to worry too much as anything could happen to you at any time, I won't let it stop me. However I take precautions, when I ran alone I planned my route so my husband knew where I was. I had my phone close to hand so I could ring the…

I'm training for a half, but I'm just eating what I normally eat.
-
Yep, some days it just isn't happening, it's just a bad run. But on the flip side, it's amazing when you go out an have an unexpected awesome run!
-
I've never warmed up, I just run.
-
As long as it's not a chest cold, run anyway, I always do.

An exercise bike. I've run for 9 years now, but a couple of years ago I fractured my pelvis and I didn't think I'd be able to run again. I bought the exercise bike so I could do that instead, and it did help at the time, but it's so mind numbingly boring. However, after a year recovering, I found I could in fact run again,…

My running shoes!

You need to control your breathing whilst running up a hill, I do this by slowly blowing out my breath rather than gasping. Make sure you breathe long and deep, and if you feel yourself getting out of control, just slow your running down. Make sure you pump your arms. It sounds really daft, but I also occupy my mind if I'm…

As everyone else said, it's all about mixing it up, longer runs are generally done at a slower pace, but if I'm only running a short way I run it as fast as I can.

I do kettlebells at home following BodyFit by Amy on Youtube, though she does all sorts of different workouts.
-
I always get a runny nose when I'm running in cold weather, it's completely normal.
-
I have a scale at home that shows body fat percentage, and whilst I realise it's not 100% accurate, I feel it does show it fairly close. Plus it has been helpful on my weightloss journey to see the bodyfat percentage coming steadily down.

I don't take my rings off for exercise, I don't need to take them off for running obviously, but for my kettlebell workouts, they are covered by my exercise gloves so they don't get damaged.

My kettlebells.

Thank you! I workout with kettlebells three times a week, one day is me going to a local kettlebell class, the other two days I workout at home with my own kettlebells following BodyFit by Amy on Youtube.

Thank you, that's the advantage to being tall, I can hide extra weight pretty well. On the downside, it means I have to lose a lot of weight for people to even notice!
-
Thank you all for the lovely comments, much appreciated! The hardest part now is knowing when to stop, but I have in mind a target of 9 stone which is 126lb, that is what I used to weigh when I got married 13 years ago and before I had kids!
-
I'm training for a half marathon in March too. I've done lots of 10k races, but this will be my first half!
-
I'll probably be shot down in flames for this but when I started I was on 1200 calories a day. I know most people will say that's not enough for my height, but as I am sedentary other than the exercise I do, I had to be that low just to lose about 0.75 pounds a week. I was also that low as I didn't weigh my food, so…

I've been running for nearly 9 years now. I'm not fast by any means, but I run!
-
General deficit for me too, no diet foods, just ordinary food but less of it. I allocated enough calories per day to have a daily piece of chocolate too. I also run three times a week and do kettlebells three times a week. Going down in weight even further now, at 132lbs, slow and steady. I'm not on so much of a deficit…

8 miles is my furthest. I'm happiest at a 10k distance, any longer than an hour of running and I start getting bored. Having said that, I've entered a half marathon in March!

I'm 5'8", my goal was 140lb, then it was 135lb (starting weight 168). I am currently down to 132lb, and no goal now as such, though I would quite like to keep going until I get to 9 stone which is 126lb.
