  • Thanks everyone. I know my golfcourse is about 6Km so can work it out from there I guess. Thanks for all the info! I imagine the swinging doesn't add too much more. Best to under estimate a little than over estimate.
  • Thanks everyone! That's been a great help!
  • I'm walking QueenLiz and alwàys at a fairly keen pace. O.k. Arditarose - that might be a good plan. In the summer I play a lot so could adjust my lifestyle, but in the winter here it rains fairly non stop so my golfing pattern would be more erratic. Makes sense to log it as walking. Thanks ladies!
  • Good innit!!! Easy and tasty. I have tweaked it a bit too. Had only 1 pepper one day Also have thrown in leftover pasta and a little pesto to give it a twist. I also put a lttle as a sauce on pasta for the kids. Glad you tried it and liked it.
  • Hi I'd love to join. I need something to work towards. Just getting back on track after a lapse :blushing:
  • Titanic. It sank as fast as the ship.....actually faster. I was looking forward to a really great historical account and instead all you got was a load of lame drivel.
  • I would have been pretty fluent in Irish (Gaelic) years ago - learned it for 14 years in School but would have much more basic ability now - lots of my vocabulary would be gone now. A pity. I loved it.
  • BTW, a handfull of chopped Coriander (I think you call it 'cilantro over there) is always a nice addition before serving....I also grate lime zest and add lime juice at times.
  • I hve just started packing lunches for work for myself and my husband - they are delicious, healthy, cheap and keep me full. On Sunday morning I prep lunchbox fillers and if something runs out during the week I make a different one to replace it. The rule for me when doing weight loss is to keep variety. If I bore myself…
  • Wow, I'm amazed....I never buy flavoured waters in the shop as I am always afraid of artificial sweeteners, preservatives, whatever - but these sound really great ad I love the fact that they are all natural. I will definitely try some. It really sounds like they add a purpose to water  Yes, I will definitely try…
  • This is the recipe I use for Barmbrack. I can honestly say it is divine. I just found it in the past year on the net and up to that point had only eaten shop bought ones - they are no comparison! Even if you don't do it for your assignment do try it - it is so worth the effort. Barmbrack is traditionally eaten at Halloween…
  • I see someone hmentioned barmbrack - one of my favourite things in the world! Now there is where tradition gets it right!
  • Hi there. I'm in Limerick  Bicarbonate of Soda is Bread Soda. I think that the really traditional Irish Soda Bread is generally plainer...can't imagine that seeds were too available here til the more recent advent of health food shops, lol. Also it is more usually savoury than sweet. I also imagine that smoked…
  • I so TOTALLY agree! I can never understand when I look at people's diaries and it has penance written all over it. For me it has to be tasty - a reward maybe psychologically for eating less of it? I can't do plain, dull food I'm afraid. I think when you know your way around food a bit it is so easy to make the best of your…
  • I saw a good trick once on a tv programme and have used it a few times. You cook up a large batch as a 'base' e.g a Lamb Base, a Beef base, a Chicken base - enough for 3 or 4 meals (or more). You keep it pretty plain - really cooking the meat with onions/whatever basics. By leaving it plain it leaves it open to then make…
  • Thanks - that is probably the problem when mine dissintegrated. Funny how when you are not used to cooking something a simple mistake can ruin it and you can't figure out why. I have to say that I am sometimes impatient in the kitchen - I bet I didn't have the water boiling enough - would be just like me to put them in too…
  • Sound deliciou! Will definitely try.
  • Thank you. Can I ask, do they stay intact? I made dumpings recently and they all came apart in the water. Mine had suet in them (I know - lethal for the calories and cholesterol!). I think maybe the water was not boiling hard enough. I must definitely try these - they do sound healthier.
  • I saved this when you posted it but haven't had time to make it yet, but I hope to try it soon. I need things to help reduce my more refined bread/pasta intake.

  • p.s. I gather that slowcooker is crockpot over there  Courgette is zucchini...:let me know if I use terms that sound strange. These recipes could be adapted to suit non-butter users, or cream left out, etc to lower fat.
  • It depends. Some days I can spend 4 or 5 hours doing housework - including vacuuming a pretty large house, mopping half the floors in it, up and down stairs a million times (I must walk miles around the house) repatriating laundry , toys, miscellaneous items, changing beds, cleaning windows, scrubbing cooker, fronts of…
  • At the moment - hummous...smoked salmon.
  • Ask yourself how you would feel if your son grew up to treat another woman the way your partner treats you? This would be unfair both on the other woman and on your son because he is learning from your partner that it is o.k to treat women that way. He will think that is 'normal'. I understand you wanting to keep your son…
  • I hae PCOS and am currently trying to make my diet more GI friendly. I am eating less carbs but not cutting out to the extent that a low-carb diet would probably suggest. I am trying to eat more wholegrain stuff and eat Lower GI carbs. I also believe that the GI rating of a meal is the accumulative of all of the foods in…
  • This is great reading. I have PCOS and find it hard to lose weight - I am trying GI at the moment as I hit a plateau 4 months ago and no shift at all in weight since. I can say that GI diet has had an incredible effect on how I feel - energy wise, mood wise, health wise, in every way to be honest. I am going to my GP this…
  • Yes, it gets easier. I found when I started it took a while to know what foods were a better spend - better value in that they filled me more. I also tried to use less calories in the earlier part of the day so that if I really had to have something later in the day I was more likely to have calories remaining (I did have…
  • Hi Karen. I'm 46-ish if that's any good. Yes - time to work at undoing the damage  I try to eat healthily - as much home-prepared food, exercise moderately - I am on here every day and good to motivate...add me if you like. I am in Ireland btw. Best of luck!
  • Hi. I have PCOS too. I believe that a GI based diet is a good way to success with PCOS. I have lost weight twice before using it and both times lost about 28-35lbs. Both times was becaue I desperately wanted to get pregnant and I got pregnant twice when I hit the 140lb mark (I did need fertility treatment. I have been here…
  • Thank you lh1626 - I did that google and it was interesting reading. Nice to have some theories at times to make us relax over things.
  • I make my sauce by blending a can of tomatoes, reducing it down with mixed herbs and a small touch of sugar if the tomatoes are a bit tart. You can add garlic if you like. A small spread of this on a pitta bread, topped with a little mozarella cheese and choose slices of olives, a little ham, anchovies, mushrooms, onion,…
