I am currently training for my first 10k and use a 'couch to 10k' app. It's a 14 week program, but the first 8 weeks is getting you up to the 5k... which would be the 6 weeks you need! Good luck!

I like to eat cashews (28 grams) and chocolate chips (15 grams) together. It's a fairly high evening snack (250ish calories), but I save calories for it each day. It gives me the sweet and salty mix that I crave and it's more filling (to me) than just eating the chocolate. I find that I can just eat that and move on. When…

Some people are just rude. I was buying a new suit the other day and I had a woman tell me that I should just lose weight so I don't have to wear "men's clothes to cover up". To be clear, it was a Calvin Kleine woman's suit - in size 6. I don't know why some people feel the urge to tear people down, but they do. Roll your…

I am confused why this matters. Isn't it all relative? I mean, if the OP started as a size 10-12 in UK and wanted to go to a 4-6 -- wouldn't we assume that was UK? Same if they started with a 10-12 in US and wanted to go to a 4-6 -- wouldn't we assume it was US? Also - up to the OP what diet she would like to follow.…

Yea, I'm not totally convinced it's 100% accurate. I eat a little more than my 1600 calories a day, but not all. But you also have to realize,at sedentary, mpf is only accounting for like 1000 steps per day.. so by doing 5000, it's basically walking a mile more than you were telling them you would w your activity level.…

You get different adjustments based on your activity level on myfitnesspal. If I have MFP set to sedentary and walk 10,000+ steps, I get more of an adjustment than if I have MFP set to lightly active. I am smaller than your husband, but I've had my account set for sedentary lately and I got 790 calories from exercise…

In all fairness, I don't think that they are mean because you talk about your mom. I'm 34. I called my mom the other day to ask her how to make corn on the cob.. bc I literally had no idea. However, your mom seems to play a larger role in your life - including managing your meals and telling you what day school starts.…

I'm not far from PSU..about an hour. I have been blaming the humidity for my desire to be lazy this week! I still was pretty active in general, but my purposeful workouts lacked this week.

Track it and move on. Plan for the restaurant. Try to find nutrition information and make a plan before hand. If you decide you are ok with going over a bit - then do it. If you decide to go for a low calorie soup/salad option, stick with the plan. Maybe move a little more to burn some more calories..

Are you eating enough during dinner? If you are eating between 4:30-5:30 and you are still hungry afterwards, perhaps you should be eating more as part of that dinner.

I just realized that this thread is probably why I decided to buy oreos at the grocery store yesterday.....

Right. I have done c25k (completed w10d1 of c210k) with 15 min miles. I know it's slow, but I'm ok with that. I was weirdly excited the other day when I was able to do a mile on the treadmill the other night at 4.5mph - which means I did a 14 min mile.

I purposefully save calories for after dinner snacks (assuming you are eating dinner as others have asked). And honestly, I don't really try to keep it at "I'll have a cup of broccoli" bc I don't tend to find that satisfying. Lately, I have been eating one serving (28 grams) of unsalted cashews and one serving (15 grams)…

Yea, I get it. I wish it was a direct connection (and immediate) like that all the time. According to my weekly report, I was down about 6000 calories last week. This should have reflected a 1-2 pound loss this week. However as of this morning, I weigh 0.1 pounds more than I did last Tuesday. It happens.. but I'm still…

I agree that exercise would definitely help get you more calories. I love cycling just bc being on a bike is fun. However, it doesn't hurt that I can burn 1000+ calories in one ride either! But the 2nd part.. have you considered switching up your chocolate/treats? For instance, I don't do a great job of limiting my…

Thank you! I actually think it'll be a lot of fun. :-)

It's normal. Oddly enough, whatever is happening is probably considered normal (for you). Very few people lose weight exactly the same way. Some lose weight first, others inches.. and vice versa. Also, you can't spot reduce. You may lose more in your arms/legs then your waist or a different order. It's really just about…

Well I drink Shakeology - which doesn't seem to be the popular opinion. That being said, I don't think it has "magical powers" or anything else from the comments above. However, I tried it about a year ago and I like it. I have a shake almost every morning. I mix it with my coffee. I have tried a few other protein shakes…

Depending on when/where you are doing it, there may be some special advice. For instance, the poster above me suggests limited clothing. I, however, did the tough mudder in November in New Jersey. While it was unseasonably warm (thank goodness), we still needed to wear pants, quick drying socks, long sleeves, etc. I am…

I think weight loss can be done either way - and only you know how best to approach it and how you will be successful. I've done it both ways depending on outside circumstances. The only thing I would tell you to be cautious about is that if you hide it, be prepared not to hear people talk about it to you either. If you…

As everyone has said, it really is just something that happens. Yesterday, I lifted (leg day), completed W9D2 of Couch to 5k (which means I walked/ran for 54 minutes), and then I was on my bike for 24 miles (2ish hours) last evening. With all of that, I logged 22,990 steps on my fitbit. I got up this morning and gained 2…

I started the program knowing I was going for a 10k - so I did c25k as part of the c210k app on my phone. I just finished w9d1 today. I am signed up for a 10k in Nov (Beat the Bridge - Chesapeake Bay Bridge). My biggest issue right now is that I run slow. I'm pretty short. When I jog on a treadmill, I start jogging at 4.0…

So just to play devil's advocate to the other opinions - she may be TRYING to compliment you. I realize it's not coming across that way, but some people are just really uncomfortable when it comes to talking about weight. If she has struggled with weight issues, it could be difficult for her to be positive about your loss.…

Yea, I emailed them and asked the questions, but I also keep reading all these horror stories about them. I'm not really interested in the "it's not a real gym debate", but with all the other stuff, I was looking for some first hand experience. I'm planning to visit all 4 possible locations prior to signing up.

Its far from perfect, but this is today so far.... Breakfast: Banana with 1 Tbsp White Chocolate Peanut Butter AM Snack: Clementine Lunch: Buffalo Chicken Lasagna (leftovers from last night's dinner) with 1 piece Ghiradelli 60% cacao square PM Snack: Clementine (may have had 2 of these, but not looking at menu right now)…

I am a little late, but I'm in. I ride outside (get bored on the trainer) and I'm in PA, so my rides are dependent on weather conditions. However, I did set a cycling goal for the YEAR of 1500 miles. In January, I'll be happy if I get in 90 miles. Jan 13 - 16.1 Jan 16 - 16.1 / Total: 32.2

Just to share, the OP isn't totally off the wall with the 1200 calorie a day recommendation from MFP. Even if I put in that I only want to lose 0.5 pounds per week, I still only get 1210 calories per MFPs recommendations. I, however, eat 1500, which is maintenance for my goal weight.. and figure I will get there when I get…

Yea, I don't like tomatoes, lettuce, or onions --- so I'm good with what I had. :-) Also, this came in at 415 calories, which was good for lunch. I occasionally add cheese, but chose not to today.
