Thank you so much for sharing your story. It really struck a chord with me. You have my sympathy for your loss.

YUM! I picked up some avocados (I always thought it was avocadoEs but Chrome tells me no!) today. They're still hard as rocks, but I'm looking forward to a few days from now. I finally found a guacamole that i really, really like - it has onions in it. !!!

One thing that Neil and I used to make was grilled portobello mushroom cap burgers. Clean the caps and marinate them briefly (maybe 20 min) in Italian dressing or other oil/vinegar/spices mix, then grill or lightly pan-fry (just a little oil on the pan to keep it from sticking).

This is a good one for making ahead and guests. A little goes a long way - a 2"x2" square with a nice salad is plenty for me. This dish should be in the MFP database already. Cook's Illustrated Baked Ziti Note: The test kitchen prefers baked ziti made with heavy cream, but whole milk can be substituted by increasing the…

This is Jo's Black Bean Burger recipe - it really is amazingly good! 1 can black beans 1 egg 1/3 cup breadcrumbs Spices to taste [salt, pepper, chili powder, cayenne, onion, garlic, etc.] Mash a can of black beams with one egg, 1/3 cub bread crumbs, and spices to taste. I used salt, pepper, chili powder, cayenne, onion and…

@Elenathegreat: Would you be in the market for a sisterwife, by any chance? I am in the remedial ironing class and I may flunk out (again).

OP wrote: What about cooking together? Or taking a class together? I work FT and cook just about every night, but I love cooking, which was NOT always the case. It didn't come easily - there is definitely a learning curve - but I kept at it and not to brag but I'm pretty dang good at it now. I noticed on your profile that…

Good reminder. Thanks!

Josey - yes, when I make Vietnamese-style egg rolls, I almost always have more filling and wrappers than I need for one meal, so I fill the wrappers as if I were going to fry them and then just freeze them (uncooked but ready to fry) in freezer bags. Same with the wrappers - don't let them get completely defrosted and then…

If you don't want to fry, try crepes instead. They can be filled with just about anything, too - fruit, sauces, meats, veggies - and work for any meal or course (a crepe filled with sliced banana and a little brown sugar with a shake of powdered sugar on top is a favorite in my home, even for my 7yo son). I do make chả giò…

Yup, that's all I'm doing. No pills, no food restrictions, no surgery, just logging my meals, weighing every day, sleeping enough, drinking lots of water, working out (and not at a gym, I use a Wii). I eat fairly 'clean' and make most of our food from scratch (I don't eat differently from my son and husband), but I…

I make mine with juice (approx 1 cup, usually apple but can vary by your own taste), frozen banana pieces (approx 1 cup 2" chunks), and frozen fruit (whatever kind you like). I don't add water, ice, yogurt, or anything else - maybe some protein powder now and then (I like Rainbow Light).

Congratulations! Excellent work!

Wonderful, thanks for sharing! I've been wanting to try an EVOO mayo but had yet to find a recipe that sounded as promising.

Haven't read the article but it makes sense to me. Women who have successfully lost weight have confidence that those who are naturally thin may not always have. Confidence in oneself and one's abilities is attractive.

Thanks to everyone who has replied, even though I'm not the OP. Your stories are extremely helpful!

January 1 doesn't have anything that December 7 doesn't, unless it's a lack of Christmas music on the radio and the opportunity to file your taxes for 2011. Make up your mind to get back on track and stop the slide, you're right that there's no point in waiting. You've already come this far, you can do it!

Congratulations! I wish you continued success in your recovery.

It's possibe to make your own condiments, and many good basic cookbooks should have several different recipes for condiments and dressings. Where condiments are concerned, I will either make mine if I have time and know that my familiy will finish them off before they spoil, or I'll buy the organic varieties as long as I…

Great post. Thanks for putting yourself out there!

What do you feel is keeping you from drinking water (and reaching for a different type of drink instead)? Have you tried adding a lemon or lime slice to your water? You can also add a slice of cucumber - a completely different taste than you might expect, very refreshing. I don't know if floating a slice of vegetable or…
