Depends I'd guess. Are you looking to build strength or lose weight? For the first, I can anecdotally say I works, for the second not so much.

You might look up step aerobics. It isn't in my area of interest (bad knees, hate steps) but it sounds like what you're doing would qualify.

I second the person who said try to contact the jrt's owner. Straight up tell them you nearly ran over their dog because the dog walker was being negligent. Another option, though slightly more dirty pool, is to report this lady on social media. A town as small as yours, everybody knows everybody in one way or another.…

I joined one of the only local 24 hr gyms. It's $19 a month if you get the auto debit, or 29 a month (no annual fee) if you pay as you go. It doesn't have a lot of amenities, but I can work it at 2 am, which is what I really wanted. I have enough issues figuring out the bloody weight machines without some swole dude…

I think maybe he was referring to muscle group. For example, I'm rehabbing and injury that led to terrible upper body atrophy, so when doing flat cable flyes (or in my case dumbbells) I currently max out at 4 lbs. (Stop laughing) But on Triceps Push downs, I'm at 30 lbs. So 30 lbs on which muscle group?

As they say, the best diet is the one you'll stick to. Those people who eat steamed broccoli, brown rice and baked chicken every night for dinner? I could never do that. I'm not even going to try. I make room in my calories for my snacks. I did swap out to healthier options, like triple zero Greek yogurt instead of low cal…

Hyperthyroidism may contribute some, but you need to discuss that, AND your diet with your doctor. As far as eating under goes... well, take what I say with a grain of salt but. I'm 5'6" as well. I'm at 163 and aiming for where you are to start with. My calorie count is 1380. Some days I go over, some I go under. There are…

If there's a way to edit this days after the fact, I'm not seeing it. So happy little repost. SW: 175 (Which I have revisited again and again) CW: 168 (Vacation weight! Pretending it's water...) Friday Morning GW: 163 (May alter if 6/4 weight is a lot lower than Friday) GW2: 158. As of Sunday I'm down to 164.8. I figure…

Set little baby goals. I started at 175 and had myself a dance party at 165. The last time I dipped below 160 I was in near total volume depletion. I'm looking forward to that one while healthy. 154 is the tipping point for my BMI to enter the healthy range. 150 is my old high school weight. 145 is a number I hit ONCE in…

I'm going "hiking" (read walking in the woods) 2-3 timed a week for cardiovascular fitness. My CV fitness is, let's face it, crap. Though not terribly overweight I'm both horribly out of shape and a smoker. The good news is I can see a drastic improvement from one session to the next. Booyah! I was aiming to go 1.75 miles…

Are you counting calories? Because if you are consuming more calories than you burn, you'll gain weight over time. If you are counting calories and you are at a deficit, give it time. Lots of time you get a pause before a woosh.

I'll take a shot at this. SW: 175 (Which I have revisited again and again) CW: 168 (Vacation weight! Pretending it's water...) Friday Morning GW: 163 (May alter if 6/4 weight is a lot lower than Friday) Weigh in dates: Start of the month(6/01 Wednesday): 6/4 Sat: 6/11 Sat: 6/18 Sat: 6/25 Sat: End of the month(6/30…

FDA approval is actually really hard to get. Any substance being sold as food that isn't whole food has been exhaustively tested. Ignore clickbait, do research on your own. In 8 years, no definitive cancer link has been found. Me personally, I hate the stuff, but that's just because it tastes gross. Splenda on the other…

Eh. Breakfast literally means "to break one's fast". It refers to not eating wbile asleep. So breakfast is technically very important, because one should eat at least one meal a day. Joking and semantics aside, it's all down to the person. I hate eating when I first wake up. Actually, I hate everything when I first wake…

When sick, eat what you feel like eating. You won't have that cold forever, so eating too little or eating over your calories won't make a difference either way. Your body is quite capable of telling you that it needs more food, and it's quite capable of telling you it can't handle any. This is one situation where no one…

Try taking b12 the day before and day of. They aren't measuring your iron, per se, but rather your hemoglobin levels. B vitamins help with production of hemoglobin. My serum iron levels are fine but my h&h are low. Ask your doctor, but usually, the b-vitamins are all you really need. (YMMV) For those wondering, you can…

The name of the game is consistency. If you are gaining weight for weeks, worry. If you are only up this week, dont. Water weight, poo buildup (not joking), and swelling in muscles from exercise all effect your weight in the short term, but not in the long term. Just remember that the long term is your goal.

Weightloss tends to come in spurts, with plateaus and wooshes. For whatever reason, my weight tends to creep up a little before the woosh. My SV a week ago was dropping to 165. Then I went back up to 167-168. This morning I weighed at 163.something. Maybe you are the same and you'll see a nice woosh in a week or so. Just…

My version of starvation mode is that going low on calories for a few days too many leads to some binge eating behavior. I go under sometimes because not listening to my body when it said it wasn't hungry is how I ended up fat, so if my appetite is nil, I don't force it. But only let that go for maybe 2-3 days. After that,…

I second some of LadyMcB's points there. Planning my meals ahead has done wonders for my ability to stay within my calories for the day. I don't deprive myself of my favorite bad foods, I just moderate the bejeesus out of them, so the other day when I was trying to decide on my "proper breakfast" I just logged all the…

As someone struggling to stay awake for my second 7p-7a shift in a row, night shift has nothing to do with it. Except... One of the biggest problems working night is that you never seem to be able to stay awake all that well. I'm not sure why, though I've heard every theory in the book. Most of us (here in my unit) turn to…

I headed out to the local ecology preserve after a 12 hour shift and walked 1.5 miles. I'm headed to another 12 hour shift tonight and have every intention of going back again in the morning. And while it's a semi scale victory, I was tracking my weight but not my weight loss, if that makes sense, and I found out that when…

That's pretty much where I am height and weight wise. It's entirely possible (I don't know her so I have no idea) that she's limiting her caloric intake so much that she's screwing with her fat/muscle balance and that's why she isn't seeing weight loss on the scale. As much jogging and stuff as she's doing, I would…

You might lose weight a little slower, but that's the trade off. I could drop my daily calories further and drop weight a lot faster, but I can't stick to it.

On very rare occassions I'll have this problem even with good logging. I'm just tired of eating and I get fed up and go to bed with about 800 calories intake. If that sounds like your problem, and it just happens every now and then (mine tends to be a prelude to shark week for whatever reason) don't fret it too much. If,…
