  • For fat loss, it is important to keep the areas of the body you would like to shrink warm, to promote blood flow and body fat metabolsim, For me that is the love handle area, so I wear a solar belt during the winter. Running tights and a light jacket with gloves most days, but I'm from the deep south so its not really that…
  • Agreed, the same question could apply to "name another animal that talks", however, I think to say just because "we can" is sufficient justification for nutrition philosophy might need to be reconsidered. No other animal can engineer high fructose corn syrup, but you'll never see an obese tiger either.
  • I would say you will get varying responses on this topic. I personally don't drink any milk, it's just not for me from a health standpoint. I use almond milk instead, higher in calcium without the downsides of cows milk. From a weight loss stand point, if it fits into your caloric intake, it alone won't hinder weight loss.…
  • This whole thread makes me sad. Coaches are "advised" to avoid all these tactics by Beachbody, so this kind of thread doesn't happen. Coaches should be here to listen and support. I apologize on behalf of those who have offended you. :ohwell:
  • I use a product called Shakeology from the makers of P90X. It has better nutritional value than Herbalife, with out the jittery feelings and elevated heart rate. Its a meal replacement.
  • Nothing happens overnight, just apply your effort daily and know that time is the great equalizer. The work you do WILL pay off over time! Add me if you like I'll be glad to help!
  • FT 40 is advertised as water proof (any with the wear link transmitters should be) however I have never tested mine :) I would suggest the FT40 or better with Polar because they have a built in ownindex feature, which allows the watch to more accurately gauge caloric burns based on your heart rate range. They also have a…
  • Welcome to MFP! You are in the right place!
  • This is a great place to start! Welcome! Feel free to add me!
  • I agree completely. I have done 5 rounds of P90X and my caloric burn varies dramatically from workout to workout and round to round. If you can use a heart rate monitor you will be much better off. If not, the workout guide suggests 600 calories per workout (thats a huge stretch for yoga). You can manually enter those…
  • I use a product called Shakeology, Its a meal replacement/protein shake. Really helps me stay satiated.
  • Fantastic! Congratulations
  • Personally, I don't use them. Anything that artificially raises the heart rate in an attempt to increase caloric burn, or has a thermogenic effect, is not something you need. They can have advantages, but I don't see them as necessary.
  • It really depends on what your goals are Mike. There are endless combinations, some will work better than others, but need to be tailored specifically to what you want to accomplish.
  • I'm starting phase 2 of an Insanity, P90X, half marathon training hybrid on Jan 3rd. I have been through Insanity, its a tough program. I'd be glad to help with any nutritional questions I can. Add me if you'd like!
  • You're in the right place! I'd be glad to be your friend! Add me if you'd like!
  • Yoga is the Fountain of Youth! It was REALLY difficult for me at the beginning, but over time it has become one of my favorite exercises! Go for it!!
  • I don't know what heart rate monitor you are using, but some of the polar watches have a feature called the ownindex which is a rudimentary way to guess at your VO2 max. The watch then adds this information into the algorithm to refine your caloric expenditure. In my experience, it has increased the accuracy as it really…
  • It is hard to do, but if you can just perfect the 80/20 Primal, you will see and feel a huge difference!
  • Thank Gblotter, I have been on my fitness journey for well over a year now, down 28 lbs since march 09, but i still struggle with nutrition. The more I learn, the more I become confused. :/

  • Are you varying your workouts, or are your routines similiar from week to week, month to month. What are your sleep habits like? Are you getting sufficient recovery periods? I know its frustrating, I've been there too. Its not always as simple as calories in, calories out.
