Words don't motivate me, numbers do...specifically increasingly smaller numbers  .

I have read and loved most of the books listed, so I'll just add Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons.

My "ups and downs" with food level out when I am consistent with exercise.

Welcome to MFP and congrats on a terrific start! Two things: 1) You can't expect to lose 14 or even 6 lbs each week. Most people lose one or two pounds/week. It makes sense, however, that your first couple of weeks saw big losses because you probably made big changes in your diet and maybe in your activity level. That…

It might be helpful for you to plan your meals the night before or in the morning before you begin your day. Log what you plan to eat that day and assess your plan. If you initially plan for too much protein or sugar or carbs, you can rearrange your eating plan before you have eaten anything that day. Then, once you get…

As long as you continue losing weight, I wouldn't worry about it.

You said you are a grad student: do you have access to your university's swimming pool or the gym there? At my university, the pool offers daytime hours for swimming laps (prior to 8am and also mid-day plus weekends) and has a couple of gyms available for students--mostly free. Also, jumping rope and biking provide good…

Send a personal message to ilookthetype here on MFP. She is the master gluten-free girl.

Oh, my! There are a million responses to this question, and I don't have time to read them all to see if someone has already suggested these books: Financial Peace Revisited or Total Money Makeover, both best sellers by Dave Ramsey. If I were you, I would get my hands on one book or the other and read it today. These ideas…

Thank you. I don't worry often, but when I do, I am totally committed to it!

I made the mistake of reading the news before going to bed: three unidentified black men were killed in separate incidents in the NYC subway on Saturday....and I haven't heard from my very black male kid who lives in NYC since Friday. ...trouble sleeping.

I agree. Shop. You look good underneath those baggy clothes, so show off a little. It will make you feel better, too.
-
Yes, it does. You are neither too old nor too heavy to do it. Do what you can, and do more each day. Be persistent and consistent and you will win.

I just read your clarifying post about casual...the fellow's family....etc. You can never go wrong with a rather conservative but becoming black dress et al.
-
I concur with many others: this is not formal attire. A black dress with non-zebra hose and heels, add a string of pearls and you'll be set. You can buy a black dress and pearls anywhere from Target to Macys in addition to the really expensive shops.

It is nice to read about an ethical person (that would be you, wallet-finder). I agree; take it to the police.

Well-done. Keep up the great work!

There is nothing to be nervous about. GF is pretty common now, so you have lots of options. Read labels carefully since odd foods--like Twizzlers--contain gluten. You can eat cereals like Rice Krispies and Rice Chex from the grocery store, any fresh fruits and vegetables, GF breads (better to make your own, though), and…

Well, tonight I learned something I didn't want to know...thanks to Urban Dictionary.

My schedule is similar--up at 5am and home by 10pm. I try to do some crunches and small weight lifting for a few minutes (really, just for a few minutes) before bed--10 min max. I knew going into this semester I would have to stop my regular exercise program but, in my case, once I get into finals week, I'll have a lighter…

Can you put your food in one cabinet/fridge shelf and his in/on another? And if there are specific foods that really tempt you, ask him to 1) not buy them, 2) leave them at work, 3) store them in his car...He loves you, right? And is supportive? Don't hesitate to ask him to help. The conversation can include: I am not…

Can't--eating one bar leads to eating the whole bag, and I can't exercise that much. It is better for me if I don't eat the first piece. My 8am class will appreciate tonight's leftovers--and I will sleep without a belly ache!

Since WW worked for you, have you considered following the WW plan and logging it on MFP? Even if the numbers don't work exactly, you'll be eating in a manner that suits you and enjoying the support from MFP folks. Also, you can increase your calorie limit here to a number that fits your needs.

If a little candy will "kill" you, please disregard the advice to eat tonight and make up for it tomorrow. For some of us, tomorrow never comes after a night of sugar overload. Know yourself and your body; do what is BEST for your mind and your body.

Consider swimming. Some of the local universities and hotels might have a pool you can use if your gym doesn't have one.

If you are able to do the exercise program at church, major modifications noted, you can do anything you want to at home. Try a Jillian Michael's video. Maybe not 30 Day Shred, but she has other videos that are less intense, less demanding, and easily modified. Also, I have seen a variety of walking videos; I am not sure…

From today--9lbs by Thanksgiving

Does he attend pre-school?

My NP recommended glucosamine chondroitin complex, too. The bottle calls for 3/day; I take 1/day. You should ask your doc if you should/what you should take.
