  • Hmm.. because what I would have to say about the Icelandic stereotype would probably offend everyone else  Other peoples opinion of us is so much nicer. PS I love being asked why I am not blonde.
  • I am starting to think more and more that Scandinavia is its own continent.. not part of Europe..
  • They are thirsty, that is true! Just not right after work.. or perhaps I have been at boring workplaces.. :P They all just want to go out for a hike or some other sport right after work! I have heard about some pretty heavy drinking parties in Iran.. but those would be in private houses since.. you know.. law..
  • Other reasons include: randomly chatting to people cause they are polite like that, and to visit the Underground.. honestly I am in love with that.. I dont know why.. and Cambdentown (spelling?) ..and just.. London.
  • Hmm perhaps the mathematical formula to how many people will be offended will have the pagenr in it.. the third page has more people offended.. though as of yet noone is seriously calling me a xeno..wahtsitcalled? or a racist.. so.. there's that..
  • soooooo Iceland isnt part of the world? I guess we are so small that we dont count.. Norway though, they must have a say in this!
  • You mean "the UK"? Or any of the countries where this is the habit? I think Germany might have that and the huge portions of food? Only move to Iceland if you want to drink late into the night.. or Norway if you want a really short workday and drink late in the evening.. or Denmark if you want to drink the whole day…
  • I find it amusing that "drinking early" is being equalled to "drinking allot". As if it can not be assumed that people will have a pint early and get the appropriate amount of drunk and then just head home for an early night.
  • Replies like this makes me happy to have made the thread.. I am genuinely interested to hear how people see things differently and experience things differently. Also, thanks for the pointers.. Will definately keep them in mind!
  • awww.... you just did a /end thread :flowerforyou:
  • aww.. I am not a Norwegian.. Dont let me give Norwegians a bad name.. They are really sweet, and uber sporty, and Nature freaks of doom.. and talk and talk about EVERYTHING.. and uber polite too. Scandinavians drink loads (the Finish the most, but Norwegians and Icelanders are not far behind in "hard" drinking, and Swedish…
  • OI! I am not a Norwegian! Except when we are joking with Norwegians that Icelanders are really just Norwegians that wouldnt behave and didnt want to bend the knee.
  • We cought one! :noway: ETA: Grats on being the first Brit to be offended by the statement.. Though I guess it is easier to be offended at a wall of text than a grinning face. Not sure why it is relevant that you defend Americans.. seeing as I am not one.
  • I guess because it gets rarer as you grow older, and younger are usually louder, it leaves the impression that the pub is full of drunk people when it could just be full of really loud people having a pint before going home. Only time this has bothered me was when I was trying to find a pub to eat at in Liverpool (first…
  • Been to Ireland.. we stayd at a danish guys home and drank all weekend.. so cant comment on Irish culture ;)
  • Interesting.. except for the part where Norwegian strawberries travel.. Norwegian strawberries are from Norway, Danish strawberries are from Denmark, etc. They are advertised and sold with the country they are grown in specially noted. Which is why you cant get Norwegian strawberries all year long. Allot of them are grown…
  • Or the Danes that start drinking when they get to work at 9am.. My dads brother used to work at a shipyard where they wouldnt even do any work on Fridays cause they were too busy relaxing with a cold beer.
  • the commute is a good point.. I am too used to a quick max 1hour to get to work, max 20 min to midtown routine.. spoiled, I know ;) I mean, who wants to spend 3 hours on commute to spend a few more hours with people you see every day the whole day anyway?
  • I have heard that bit from a Brit before, the one about it being important for networking. It makes sense. I guess its a less formal version of going out for lunch or dinner together. Icelanders take their bingedrinking habit out in a different setting - late on friday and saturday (sometimes thursday and sunday) nights…
  • oh kinda like drinking 1/2 liter of water before eating.. except more fun?
  • Well next time I will be the pain in the butt person who asks for springwater.. or brings my own. I cant drink the water if it isnt pure because I start swelling up from too much chlorine in it (at least in Atlanta, smokey mountains, washington areas). Next time I will also be doing the same as I did allot of the later…
  • http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1099694-why-do-british-people-drink-so-early-in-the-day :flowerforyou:
  • Please show me a Brit or a Norwegian that *is* offended by the comment.. I have made these comments to many (and they have in turn mentioned the drinking, blondness, believing in elfs, loving wool sweaters and many other stereotypes/observations of Icelanders) and not one has been offended. I guess we just know how to…
  • Ofcourse its different between crops and seasons. The strawberries were an example, but even prepared food and prepacked and all of that was sooooo sweet. And isnt lemonade supposed to be more sour than sweet? Or maybe I have been drinking the wrong type    The whole two weeks I felt like in "sugar…
  •   I am not bashing, I am making an observation. Again, like when I mention how early british people go out for drinks, or norwegians eat.. or how much Icelanders drink and behave rudely or really really really like their woolen sweaters.
  • I extrapolated from your questions to me. Have you tasted fruit from other countries? Are you aware that you can grow different strains to get different taste? Just look at apples, the shade of redness/greeness can usually tell you how soure/sweet they will be. Have you looked at the labels of dairybased (or any based)…
  • the funny part is you have the same questions I have.. Why is there so little protein in your milk products? Honestly I dont know why.. what I did was look at the labels and compare it to what I eat here and there was a big difference. I am not a dairyfarmer nor do I work anywhere near the milk industry so I dont know.…
  • The sausage was deep fried on all cases (if they had it) or there was bacon-cream thingy.. so sure in that case it was not as sweet but instead loads of fat.. great. I didnt say it was what most americans ate, I specifically said hotels which OFCOURSE will be different from what a person eats at home. What mostly bothered…
  • Heh I just came back from a two week vacation in the US (atlanta and washington) and had the same question as the OP.. and we were dining in real restaurants (compared to Iceland/Norway they are so much cheaper so might as well dine out proper ;) ). Our favourite was to find a "brewery and steakhouse" though, cause then…
  • I am married to a great man, he is nice among other things.. you wont catch him saying he's a "nice guy" though. My best friend is a really nice guy, among other things, and I dont hear him complaining "nice guys finish last" when talking about his love life. I have lots of guy friends.. alot of them are in relationships..…
