  • Hang in there! I know it sucks when when weather makes it hard to do anything outside and inside isn't much better. Don't let yourself fall, though--as long as you keep getting back up and don't give up on this, you won't fail! I second the frozen veggies--the best part is that they keep for a long time, so you can stock…
  • No magic solution as far as I know. (Although ranting on MFP helps!) Hope you feel better soon! *EDIT* I meant to also say that exercise helps if you can bring yourself to do it... it'll at least pass the time, and I usually feel much better after exercising than I did before. :flowerforyou:
  • I'm in love with it, from what I've read. It's kind of an "everything in moderation" diet, of course assuming that you eat more of the stuff that's wholesome than junky food. I'm thinking, though, that I need to do some first-hand research, just to make sure I get it right.
  • I totally understand!! I've never had this experience at the gym (the people who annoy me at the gym are the ones who hijack my treadmill or destroy the weight machines because they don't want to learn the rules/practise basic etiquette), but I've worked myself to practically hysterical for the same exact reason. Why is it…
  • I usually burn about 300 in a 30-min elliptical workout, although I've noticed that some ellipticals are harder to use than others (it seems like they have a higher "starting" resistance), so it follows that you might burn more on some models than others.
  • Like you said, it's to get better at something... going out and giving 100% will help you tone and build muscle (which we all know is good to accelerate weight loss). And besides, what's the point of just burning 300 when you could burn 600 and feel like a million bucks for pushing that much harder?
  • You could try starting with kids vitamins and "working up" to adult ones... I hope you find something that works!
  • From what I hear, slow and steady is the best plan to avoid loose skin. If you take it slow, your body has time to "adjust" itself to the weight loss.
  • Yeah, me too. And fried fish. OMG I love fish and chips. And beer. And wine. And probably chocolate cake, too. An entire chocolate cake.
  • In theory, "cooked" info applies to any and all cooked bacon. I tend to use bacon fat to cook other components of the dish (ie. I brown the bacon then saute onions in the fat that's rendered out), so I always use the raw nutrition info when I use bacon... essentially, it depends on if you use the fat or drain it off and…
  • If it's closely (and medically) supervised, I think it's feasible as a "kick-start" program, but for long-term weight loss I'm not sold on it...
  • Wait... 700 calories a day? That's not healthy... and it'll make it hard to lose weight.
  • It's not worse than shorting yourself on calories. Have some peanut butter or cheese and fruit to bump yourself up--protein plus natural fruit sugars shouldn't hurt your diet at all. And, if you're "very hungry", you should eat--being hungry always keeps me awake, better to have something light before hitting the sack.
  • I know! I did a happy dance when I realized my favourite (toasted chicken club) was less than 400 cals. But... sodium... yeeeah.
  • Rice crackers? They're pretty crunchy, but they're fairly neutral and most brands are gluten free. You could also try soup, even if you have to make it yourself (simple chicken-rice soup isn't hard to make, I'm sure there's lots of recipes that only use rice and chicken broth).
  • I know, right?! Recently an officer in Toronto was killed by some guy who thought screwing around with a snowplow was fun... it was really touching to see photos of his funeral (literally a sea of uniforms), but heartbreaking to find out that he left a wife and a little boy behind. And it also really sucks that despite the…
  • I hate ignorant medical staff. Bleh. I've just recently found myself a doctor who was totally open to everything I said at my consultation and it was *so* nice. Welcome back and good luck!
  • Pasta with frozen veggies! My current favorite is linguine with frozen peas and basil pesto (I just bought a jar of pesto since I'm too lazy to make my own)... I like to add shrimp to that if I have any, but tuna would probably work too.
  • Welcome! If you're looking for friends this is definitely the place! Congrats on getting under control--I understand that it's a very tough journey to make, more so if there's nobody to lean on. I hope you enjoy it here! :flowerforyou:
  • Sounds very similar to something I make (I usually toss the tomatoes and some other veggies--like broccoli or peas--with the hot pasta right after it's done cooking and some Italian dressing and cheese). For protein you could even try tuna if you have any, but I would rinse it and dry the pieces lightly before adding them…
  • Depends on how big the slices are, and what type of crust, and how much cheese, etc. etc. I would high-ball (go with the 250-cal estimate) just to be safe. In any case, have fun, enjoy it, and don't beat yourself up about it--we all need relief at some point, and better to do it in a controlled way than resist and end up…
  • Waaaaiiit, what? Coconut key-lime muffins?! Sounds delicious!
  • Tastes better, too... except it's expensive. Calorie-wise, it's supposed to be similar to margarine (I've never actually compared the two...), but if you have to choose one butter is supposed to be much better.
  • I love yoga--it's strength and flexibility together. You're not going to build a ton of muscle, but you definitely feel that your muscles have been worked if you get into some of the balance-type poses, so it's a good starting point. Plus, balancing exercises help with your stabilizer muscles, which come in handy for using…
  • You'll definitely see better results after a few weeks if you incorporate strength training, but if your objective is cardio then I can't see it being bad per se to only do cardio for now... just make sure that once you've got some stamina you turn to strength training. I started off with just cardio because that's all I…
  • Ditto to what everyone else has said (especially the weekly weigh-in and all that stuff about water weight), and also realize that with a goal of 13 lbs lost you're not going to see a dramatic drop in weight. The last 10 lbs are always the hardest, and you're basically there now, so don't get freaked out that you aren't…
  • Does the fiber from veggies count? Stir-fries and soups/stews with lots of veggies are awesome ways to pack huge amounts of fiber into one meal (and you could serve either of those with brown rice), although I'm not sure if the fiber from veggies (and beans/lentils) acts the same way as carbohydrate fiber.... Or, you could…
  • Don't worry about the 1700 cals--as long as you keep up the good eating habits. I'm assuming the days you go out with friends you're eating junkier food, which gives you the crappy physical/emotional side effects. When you're in need of more "healthy" calories you can resort to nuts, cheese, avocado, etc. As for logging,…
  • Nice job!! I think you're the first person I've heard actually say they met their New Year's Resolution! Congrats, and enjoy your new body!
  • I seem to remember hearing that a pound a day is the limit--more than that could be too much at once... although that changes depending on gender, age, your starting weight, if you're just starting your weight loss program, etc, etc, etc. Personally, I'd say you should consult with your doc if you're really stuck,…
