  • I'd love to be MFP friends!
  • I completely agree, absolutely beautiful!
  • I am the same way, I personally feel like hiking is the best workout out there, but I'm biased  . I also started rock climbing this past winter for upper body strength, and I honestly feel that between rock climbing and hiking, I'm set for life and in the best shape possible.
  • Thanks, that is very helpful. I did train about 11k when I did my 10k last year, and I did it that way so (like you said) I had no doubt that I could do it on race day .
  • I've been running consistently for the past few years, I normally do 3 mile runs a few times a week. I average 10 minute miles. The furthest I've run at one time is 6.5 miles. I've completed Week 3 of the schedule I posted a link to.
  • I claim that is bull crap :)
  • I'm 5'3'', and my happiest weight is 103 lbs to 108 lbs, I have a small frame, and I just feel like I don't look good above 110. My heaviest was 118, and I felt miserable (probably mostly due to the birth control), but still- shows how much ideal weight can vary from person to person! :)
  • Yes, this.
  • Toned legs are great- and I can promise you that if you are a dancer like you say- you have amazing legs! I don't remember one girl in high school to danced and did not look great.
  • Just from the information you've posted, it's hard to say, but could it be because you have more muscle now than you did last year? I wouldn't worry if you fit the same sizes- I know the number on the scale and either make or ruin your day, but try to ignore it when you are doing everything right, after all it's only a…
  • First, I just want to reassure you that you are not skinny fat- I feel that people misuse that term when describing themselves waaaaayy too often. You are active and you eat healthy- just because you have body fat (as do we all), doesn't make you "skinny fat" by any means. In fact- I despise that term as I feel it's just…
  • Hurray! Like those who posted before me- welcome to the club!
  • I dunno about you, but I eat a ton for breakfast and lunch, this keeps me full the rest of the day.
  • Yay! I always love it when someone starts to run. This is just from my own experience, but I can normally run 3 miles 4 to 5 times a week. When I was training for my 10k, I was running 4 to 6 miles 3 to 4 times a week, or every other day w/ Sundays off. I'd start at 2 miles 5 times a week and work up to 3 miles, and just…
  • Sugar in fruits is not refined or chemically manufactured. It's naturally-occurring sugar- but it is still sugar. Check out this link for which fruits are low in sugar and which ones are high in sugar: http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/whattoeat/a/whatfruit.htm

  • I got my treadmill at a thrift store for $20, it was by no means gym quality, but it worked just fine and got the job done. I try to run outside when I can- if you can afford it, then I'd get it.
  • figured out the picture part!
  • Oh please, running is fantastic exercise. You should do it if you are able to and also enjoy it. Strength training is also important. I am a big runner, and run up mountain trails, on the sidewalk, and occasionally on the treadmill. I always feel on top of the world when I finish a run. It builds your lungs, strengthens…
  • Ya, it's hard to manage sugar intake: I've heard that the average female should average about 24g to 35g of sugar a day, and for males 34g to 45g. Keep in mind that 4g of sugar = 1 tsp of sugar (to help you put that into perspective). Don't worry about counting the sugars in fruits, veggies, or other natural-occurring…
  • I am the same way with chips, crackers, cookies, cereal, cheese sticks, ice cream, cake, pie, pizza, candy, etc. And I've found the solution: Just. Don't. Buy. Them. Seriously, if you can't have self control with a food item no matter what- then don't even tempt yourself with it. It's amazing how much less you eat when you…
  • Weekends are my biggest challenge too! I do so well during the week because I have a routine- I eat at 9am, 10am, 1pm and 5:30pm (respectively) . I'm good, I hit 1,000 cals while at work, and have a 400 cal dinner when I get home. I like having this schedule, but the weekends everything is so random and eating over at the…
  • I'm 5'3", 107 lbs, and my pant size varies just like everyone, but it's ranges from 0 to 4. I have a hard time shopping for pants because my waist measurements are smaller than my butt, so if something fits in the waist, It's a little too tight in the hips and butt, but if it fits in the butt, it's too loose in the waist.
  • I think the best thing you can do is just to listen to your own body. If your body is telling you you that you're not hungry, then don't feel like you have to eat just to make your calories for the day. This being said, peanut butter (or any other nut butter) is a great way to add some quick calories w/out a large volume…
  • Try Power Crunch bars (peanut butter is the best) They are about 200 calories, 5g of sugar, but 14g of protein and 11% calcium. I could eat them all day and they really satisfy me. Try Amazon, Vitacost, or Walmart.com for the best prices.
  • I love Torani sugar free Vanilla or Hazelnut. I like it because it doesn't have that chemical taste that splenda or stevia have. And it's 0 calories!
  • Motivate by being an example yourself- When my husband, siblings, or parents exercise and/or change their diet in some way, I'm more motivated to as well. It might take time, but maybe you could start by asking her to go on a walk with you and the kids, or by helping cook healthier food. You don't have to say a single word…

  • I'd aim for 1 or 2 lbs a week :) It might take twice as long- but it will be SO much easier to keep it off that way.

  • You can definitely lose 10 lbs in less than a month, just be prepared to gain it all back once you start eating normal again. Most of what you'll lose will be water weight. Lasting weight loss takes time- there's no quick fix. Successful weight loss is 0.5 to 2 lbs a week. Yo-yo dieting- which is what you are wanting to…
