How do you know your cortisol levels are high? Bloodwork? Observation of symptoms?

Thank you so much to the OP for this post and the replies. I was going to post the same question. I am slipping off the wagon and I need to get back on. When I started all this, the fear of my T2D being out of control and I just felt bad was my motivation. Now, my T2D is so much better and I feel better. The original…

@AlexandraCarlyle I hope you don't think I making excuses, but I think I've tried so much over the past several months. It's so frustrating and getting worse. I believe there is something out of balance and I cannot find out what that is. I upped my water intake at the first signs and it hasn't helped my legs. Although I…

This is a great post. So many of your insights are spot on. I especially like your comment about this being a WOE and not a diet. Just today, I didn't take a piece of chocolate cake offered at work and someone said "You're being so good". It just struck me different after I read your post. Does someone tell a vegetarian…

Darnit! The link must have fallen off on it's way from my computer to the web. Boy, I hate it when that happens! https://low-carb-support.com/lowcarb-flourless-chocolate-biscuits/

@KnitOrMiss Thanks so much for your detailed response. I'm not familiar with Dr. Berg so I will be reading up on his website. The low calcium and low vitamin D was determined by recent blood work. I'll have that blood work again at the end of the month. I do take my calcium and iron separately (calcuim in the AM and iron…

I think I take too many supplements and I've been wondering if they are really helping or not. Here's the ones I know I need because of bloodwork: Multivitamin Iron Calcium Vitamin D Vitamin B1 Vtamin B12 DHEA Here's the ones I take because I *think* I need them. How do I know if they are actually working? MSM (joints)…

A little late to the game on this one but I think it's a great idea. My underlying principle is slow and steady. I tend to do too much too fast and get frustrated and quit. So my stretch may not seem much of a stretch but I'm going to add 1 30 minute walk a week. I listen to audio books and I think this would be a great…

I just tried the jello (orange) and heavy whipping cream. I bought some popsicle molds and had a little left over and put in a dish. I couldn't get them out of the molds! Dagnabit! I did eat the one in the dish and it was ok. I think I'll do a little tweaking with the recipes. I'll soak the molds in hot water but I was…

Good for you! You're doing great.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I've been mostly keeping on track. I'm going to work in a couple of walks after lunch and dinner. It's going to take a little more lifestyle change to workout before/after breakfast. Small steps (and portions) work well for me.

Yes! Salt and vinegar chips. I was weak and it came in a boxed lunch provided at work. So I ate one and "Mmm, salty chip" then "yuk vinegar". So I tried another. "Mmm, salty chip" then "yuk vinegar". I probably had 4 or 5 before I came to my senses.

I kept track because I was curious, too. It's about 4-5 pounds off. It says I should weigh 4 pounds less than I do. I usually stay plus/minus 200 calories of my 1200 calorie goal per day. I look at it as another motivator than a predictor.

PCOS can cause insulin resistance making it harder to loose weight. Metformin helps to regulate the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. Metformin makes your body more sensitive to insulin, and decreases the amount of glucose your liver releases. Have you had your HbA1c checked? I'm dealing with insulin resistance by…

Thanks for the zigzag anology.

I have trouble sleeping and 6 continous hours would be a treat. Can you split the difference at 30 minutes?

Way to go! My first mini goal is 12#. This is week 2 and my first weigh is tomorrow. The first week was a little rocky but I'm catching on. Thanks for posting your success.

I'm Fifty, Fluffy and Forlorn. But I'm aiming for Fifty, Fiesty and Freakin' Amazing! Motivation is hard and depression sucks. I wish I knew what words to use to motivate you. I know that when I eat better, I move more which makes me feel better. It's a cycle that is tough to start. So, from one F3 to another, you can do…

Good luck to you, too! I find the food logging time consuming, too. But I'm on my second week and it's a little quicker. I'm finding that I don't eat more food at the end of a meal because I don't want to log it. This helps me stick to the plan :)

I am also a 50 year old Angela who's goal is to run a 5K. Although, I do like to run. I just can't do it, yet. I'm working up to it. Are you on a particular training program? You sound like you have a great attitude. Good luck to you!

My willpower is rarely more powerful than my will to eat once it hits me so I have some other strategies. Things I do is talk to my husband or my sister and tell him/her I'm trying not to eat. Then I won't eat while talking to him/her and they keep me strong until it passes. I will do a craft project like sewing or…

Definately get your vitamin levels tested. I was low on vitamin D and she told me to take 10,000 IU. I thought she meant a day so I started taking A LOT of vitamin D. However, she meant a week and it didn't take me long to overdose. Once I got it leveled out, I felt better. I also take an iron supplement called Vitron-C.…

I've also read where sleeping on a full stomach can lead to nightmares. I've noticed this in my own eat/sleep patterns. But the slowing down your metabolism is a myth.

So glad you found the problem. A word of advice, from experience, if I may. Have your doctor keep an eye on this as you are loosing weight. As I was loosing weight, I was getting too much of the medication. The symptoms of high thyroid are as agonizing as low thyroid. Also, watch what you take it with. There are some…
