Me, too! Whatever works to motivate, right?
-
Very cool! So, did they ask you?

This is what I'm thinking. Lifestyle change. To "stop" doing this would mean another lifestyle change. One that I'm really not interesting in making. I think that, once I get to maintenance, I'll know what healthy eating is all about, will stick with it because it makes me feel good, and I'll have no desire to go back to…

A. Maze. ZING!!

Could we please stop saying "eat less" and instead say "consume fewer calories"? Because they are not the same thing.

You are not an idiot! You did the best you could with the info at hand, as another couple of posters have said. I can't afford a quality HRM right now, so here's what I do: I input a weight 5 lbs under my real weight when I work out on a cardio machine. I take about 25% off other calorie-burn numbers given by MFP…

You look stunning!!

I track. And I've noticed that when I keep it under/around 1500 mg per day, I lose weight more consistently.
-
Wow. He sounds like a friggin' moron.
-
OMG, that is totally awesome and fabulous, combined! Good on you, and keep up the good work. What an inspiration!

Low carb, low salt, and lots of water.

Mashed potatoes with sauerkraut on top.

I like this answer. Take a few days off; eat as nutritiously as you can, and rest. Don't sweat it.

I'm actually starting to slough off logging *some* of my veggie cals, like spinach and mushrooms, and salad greens and asparagus. I'll count the oil I've sauteed them in, but if it looks like about a half- to full-cup of something low-cal like those, I don't bother. Slippery slope, I know. :blushing:

Dang, I wish I'd looked that good at 195! And the top you're wearing is cuuuuuute!

I was able to lose weight on a beta-blocker when I first started out (with WW) back in October. In 2 months I lost about 10 pounds, which is pretty respectable. So yes, it's possible. The side effects were driving me nuts, though--horribly low energy, and, hair loss. I insisted on being taken off the drug. I told my doc…

Having done both WW and MFP, I much prefer MFP. Since I don't eat "points," but calories, this just makes more sense. And it's freeeeeee!

I've (finally!) learned to cook dried beans, opt for low-sodium versions of canned tomatoes, and use fresh or frozen vegetables. Seldom add salt to my cooking, use Salt Sense on the table. Herb-Ox makes a sodium-free broth powder. Rinse all your canned stuff, including tuna. Here's an article about how much salt you can…

Maybe try substituting starchier vegetables like yams and potatoes? More beans?

Boy, hasn't affected my MIL. She's been sitting on her *kitten* for 81 years now. But she's made of pure evil, so probably nothing's going to make her cack.

I'm 5'8'. When I wore size 18, I was 202 pounds.
-
Yes, but did you log it?

Cheese omelet with veggies? I don't eat the typical breakfast meats anymore--too much sodium. Occasionally Price Rite has sandwich steaks on sale (fresh, not the Steak-Um kind), and I'll have an ounce of that.
-
In addition to farmer's markets and discount places like Costco and Aldi (Price Rite is great, too!), check out any Asian grocery stores in your area. There's one in my neighborhood that sells fresh produce often well below the chain stores.

Interesting. Did you ask why she reduced your calories when what you were doing was obviously working, at least as far as weight loss? (Ten pounds in 4 weeks is great!) Was your blood glucose all wonky or something? In which case, I would think substituting more "diabetes-friendly" foods rather than calorie reduction would…
-
Heh. I was *just* going to post "White food is bad for you."
-
I do have hypertension, so I watch the salt. What's helped me is eliminating deli meats, using dried beans rather than canned (although the lower sodium types are okay), and fresh or frozen vegetables instead of canned. Not giving up my full-fat, fully salted cheese, though. Ain't happenin'.
-
I have no words. I am in utter awe of you.
-
I'd also vote for the "lead by example" option. If you share your successes with her, she might just ask you how you do it, then you can pounce (gently!) and tell her. And maybe she'll be inspired to try it out for herself.

Please stop sharing your weight loss journey with your mother. Just stop. You haven't gotten support from her in the past, you won't in the future. Just. Stop. You're doing a marvelous job without her input.
