Couldn't fit the gym towel around my waist at my health club anymore. I could say I wanted to live longer, wanted to be healthy enough to play ball with my son, wanted to live to see my grandchildren... but to be honest, it was the towel. The towel really p*ssed me off.

Forgot the most important part: If indeed you are hitting 165 to 180 , I'd say slow it down a bit. I'm the same age, and I never intentionally go beyond 170 to 174 (during sprints and speed bursts or hills.) and I tend to slow things down when i hit 162. My usual race average is 155.

I'm 51 also, so we have a bit in common. I've had my heart rate spike after a mile or so and stay spiked till I stopped running. Why this happens , I don't know. I used to think it happened when i had a hangover, but it happens without a hangover. Though the problem may be the accuracy of your HRM, i would be cautious. As…

There will always be those ready to quote arcane University studies and use scare tactics. There is only one expert on your body : you. There is only one benchmark on how your body is responding to training: how you feel. Once again, I ran huge calorie deficits in the beginning of my training and tore through fat in the…

I ran a huge calorie deficit in the beginning, and I wouldn't slack off till I got that really tired feeling at the time of day you usually workout. I knew i was overextending when I would feel really *blah* at my…

just curious, what was the solution? I have a forerunner and the same heart monitor and this happened to me once. Don't think there was any solution, just turned the watch off and on again and it worked.

I've tried many many solutions, and not been happy with any of them till i came across a post on the New York Road Runner's facebook page about 2 years ago. I use this solution every day for any run over 5k since then. It's intended to be used on feet, and the bonus is that as a runner you'll probably need it anyway every…
