I might have to give that a try. What sort of bread did you use?

ALWAYS READ THE SMALL PRINT! ;-)

Good idea! For me, a Mediterranean Style Chicken Burger in a Thomas Bagel Thin with a slice of Cheddar. 37 grams of protein and NOM NOM NOM! What did you have?
-
Good question! In the instruction manual, it says to cook the chicken first - but I asked my seasoned jerky-making friend and he said that if you stick chicken into a jerky machine at 160 degrees for six hours, it'll kill the salmonella and then some. I've eaten a metric ton of the stuff and have never got sick from it.…

It has been linked, conclusively, to cancer in lab rats - and it was almost made illegal in Europe for that reason. I have the odd diet soda, despite my best judgment, but amongst my friends we'll all refer to Diet Coke as 'rat poison' because we know it's terrible, terrible stuff.

What's the square route of 145? Well, you did say ask anything! Welcome to MFP! New Jersey is really representing these days!
-
If you fire up the BBQ, I'll start rounding up the cows. ;-)
-
Me too! Try mixing it with a teaspoon of cocoa. It's only 15 extra calories and YUMMY.
-
That's wonderful - But I aim to get a minimum of twice that amount to maintain my muscle-mass and still come in under 1,650 calories. Managing that without shakes would either mean I'd be 'whey' under my required protein goal (pun!) or I'd be seriously over my calories. Aside from lean meat, I find very few sources of…

What utter rubbish! To build muscle you need to ingest protein, and for most of us the easiest way to do that is to take a supplemental shake. If your body doesn't have sufficient protein, you won't build any muscle and all that exercise will be worthless. It's basic nutrition 101. I'm surprised to see anybody suggest…

Welcome to MFP from another New Jerseyite (well, I'm an import from the UK, but live in Jersey.)
-
How funny - I JUST discovered Interval Training yesterday and I LOVE it. It's what big-time athletes use and increases your fitness far quicker than lower intensity/longer duration cardio.
-
Thanks for the advice, guys! Green tea and water are the order of the day, and I'll hit the hay nice and early tonight.
-
Paddymax is right on the money. ;-) Although some would suggest 3 sets of 6-8 for building mass, with a heavier weight (you can lift less during 4 sets than you can in 3 sets.) I tend to go for four sets, because I want to really fail on the last rep each time.

Mine too.

I recommend Carlon Colker's book Extreme Muscle Enhancement: Bodybuilding’s Most Powerful Techniques - it's basically the bible on strength training. He would definitely recommend longer than a single day to let your muscles repair. He recommends as long as 7-10 days for mesomorphs (which is doable depending on your…

That's a really interesting topic! For the sit ups, keep doing the same number of reps (sets of 25) but try making it tougher, by lifting your legs onto the couch or something. You'll only build muscle by challenging it and making exercise progressively more difficult. More weight will get better results than more…

Thanks for the motivation! I'll struggle on! ;-)

Wow! You look beautiful! Well done!
-
WOW! What a transformation. That's AMAZING! Good for you!
-
Good Lord! What did the army do to you? ;-o

Hey guys - you can adjust your 'totals' to match your ideal intake in the 'tools' section. My MFP now tracks me to an ideal 200 grams of protein a day and 30 grams of fiber. I swear, if there's one thing that's helped me lose weight it's upping my fiber. I feel so much better because of it.
-
Heck no! Great source of protein and low fat (if you get the right cut of meat.)
-
I stopped reading after it suggested that microwaving food was the same as irradiating it. Whoever wrote that steaming pile of cr*p needs to go back to school and take Physics 101 again.

chicken-fried-steak, get in my bellaaaaay! BEST THREAD TOPIC EVER! I am having baked chicken and sweet potato fries, but I would be OM NOM NOMING that steak with you in a heartbeat, sister!

You can't 'spot reduce' fat in a specific area. Belly fat is always the last to go, but the only way you can get rid of it is by losing more weight. You burn fat from all over your body, including your belly. That's why running is a great idea - burns calories. You can do a gazillion crunches and you'll never lose your…

It;s funny - I lost about 20lbs without doing a lick of exercise - when I started seeing results, though, it inspired me to start exercising. Now I'm lifting weights, joined the gym and am more into exercise than I ever was. I think it's all steps along the road - you make one change in your life and it snowballs into…

Contrary to what my wife says when I can't open the pickle jars, I'm a man!

to clarify the whole work out/sedentry thing... Atkins is ongoing keto - so you are on a permanent low-carb diet and once your body adjusts to burning fat instead of sugar, you'll see results even with a sedentary lifestyle. For weight trainers, cyclic keto is better - you have >30 grams of carbs a day during the week and…

Hey! Don't diss the Double Downs. A grilled Double Down is 450 calories and 61 grams of protein. Yummy if you're weight training. ;-) Great articles - thanks for sharing.
