I used to get chronic heartburn and found switching from white to whole wheat pasta actually HELPED. It's more likely tomato sauce, if you use it (very acidic.) I found I stopped getting (most) of my hearburn after losing the weight, but red sauce still triggers it, so we tend to just have butter or oil on our pasta.

I just got this for my wife, so I'm so happy to see people having success with it!

I LOVE this thread. I am British, so any indiscretion I have with alcohol I blame on my nationality. One of the great things about MFP is that you can track your calories and decide what you want to 'spend' them on - so I've cut back on drinking, but continue to do so. I really, really, really enjoy wine and beer, so have…

This is the BEST SITE IN THE WORLD and has the BEST PEOPLE on it, so I know you'll be really happy here and WELCOME. Good luck with your weight loss goal.

Just giving this a bump because I'm interested too. I'm a guy and have incorporated weights into my routine for a while, but it seems like you can't LOSE weight and GAIN muscle, it's either one or the other.

I'm British, so I defend the fact that 'beer' appears here on the grounds that I come from a nation of borderline alcoholics. Breakfast: EAS Myoplex Protein Mix (Chocolate) Organic fat-free milk Fiber One Cereal (Honey Clusters of Oats) Orange Juice Lunch: Arnold Select Sandwich Thins Cheddar Cheese Slice Onions – Raw…

I have a big protein shake for breakfast (also EAS) and that's pukka. I also LOVE jerky, but I guess that's bad because of all the sodium! Fortunately I don't have a sweet tooth - and if I did, this disgusting bar has cured it!

I think it's always a good idea to play it safe - but to defend my own gender, there are a lot of guys out there who simply don't have a clue. They don't get that they're 'creepy' and don't respond to social cues that would be bloomin' obvious to the rest of us. In all honesty, it's the non-creepy ones you've got to watch…

I'm a Brit, but I live in New York!

Hehe! LOL - no probs. I'm thinking of taking a break-day and watching it in a good old fashioned pub.

Ahem, it's between ENGLAND and the USA - The UK is England, Scotland and Wales and if you call a Scotsman (or a Welshman) English they will be... upset. I'm British, so I guess I SHOULD be rooting for England - but personally I like to support the underdogs and the USA has been getting better and better.

Don't you have a tea party to get to? ;-) I never understood this argument. When it's the government demanding we live healthily for the greater good, and taxing us if we don't, it's evil. When it's health insurance companies do exactly the same damn thing, raking in more billions by raising premiums on obese people and…

Regarding Guiness - there are much better stouts on the market. Back in the UK the mass market one was Murphys and it was delicious (my mother drank pints of that - so ladylike!) Sam Adams do a couple of good stouts too - and there's an imported British one called Double Chocolate Stout. If calories be damned, try adding a…

Beer talk! Awesome! Yep, I've found beer is one part of my diet I can't seem to quit. I'm British, so like flavorful beers. My favorite is made by Yards in Philly - Thomas Jefferson's Tavern Ale. Yum, yum, yum. Failing that, I'm a big fan of all Sam Adams - especially their regular Boston Lager and Noble Pils seasonal.

Thanks guys, I'll try editing the lines if I see any problem entries!

11oz protein shake, not 100oz. That would be one big shake!

Another great place to find the calorie and nutritional content of almost every type of food is My Fitness Pal - you know, the website we're on right now. The database is constantly updated by us MFP'ers. Just saying.
-
I'd really appreciate it! Thanks

I totally hear you! I had 30lbs to lose, but took up from free weight training along the way and developed MUSCLES and now I want to continue building them. It's tough, though. I haven't quite figured out how to eat right for losing fat, but building muscle.

Or if you're eating food off somebody else's plate. Doesn't count.

EXACTLY!

I think that's a fair comment, but I kind of get sick of people bashing on Palin. It especially infuriates me how feminists bash her - I mean, you can say what you want about her feelings on abortion, women's rights etc - but before she was even a blip on our radar, she became a mayor of a (relatively, for Alaksa) major…

OhmyGod, Alicia. I just ADORE macademia nuts. OM NOM NOM actual NOM. They are the most scrumptious, delicious thing EVER. I think they're pretty good for you too, but very high in fat and calories. It's a pity. I could honestly eat NOTHING but macademia nuts and be happy.

Hey xoalyssaox! GOOD FOR YOU! It sounds like you're taking charge of your life and embracing the positive and shedding the negative. Keep at it!

Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings is AWESOME - and great exercise. I was sweating when I got done pummeling the bad guys and swinging across ledges.

"I can handle a lot of chocolate milk" Ha ha! Love it! So can I. I'm just about at my goal and have started weightlifting, to build bulk. I was astonished to compare what they recommended compared to MFP's protein recommendations. I'm a chicken, steak and cheese freak, so I exceed my protein allocations on a daily basis.
-
Awesome! Thanks for the info - I was wondering what was going on. I might have to hit you up with more newbie questions in the future - hope you don't mind!

I think it's just 'too much, too soon.' I LOVE those Fiber One bars - two a day used to be my brekkie of choice, until I got bored of the same old thing every day. GREAT way to get your daily fiber intake and that will help you feel full and lose weight. But if you dramatically bulk up on your daily fiber intake (or do the…

OH MY GOD IT DOES! THANKS!

Thanks, guys! Let's see if it works!
