"There is also a level at which walking burns more calories per mile than running. But, at speeds of 5 MPH or faster, running will burn more calories per mile than walking." http://www.runningplanet.com/training/running-versus-walking.html

Unless you go and get your metablism actually measured during exercise through what is call V02 Max testing, any app or what i told you is an estimate. The number of calories burned during exercise will vary from person to person. Many apps and HRM use a formula to as accurately as possible estimate your burn, but they are…

Whether you elect to log exercise is a matter of accuracy. Weight management is a matter of calories in and calories out, so if you burn calories you do not record you are creating a defecit which does not show up on your tracker. Therefore, you are actually eating under your daily allotment which if weight loss is your…

MFP and other sites severly overestimate calories burned for exercising. A 150 pound person expends an average of 100 calories per mile whether they are running or walking. Since I am 242, I did the math and it comes out to about 150 calories per mile. As this article points out, as long as the energy expenditure is the…

Awesome job. Keep carrying the torch!!

I had to do run/ walk intervals. I ran the first 1.5 and the last mile, but did 4/2 for the rest. I am doing another one in June and intend to do 5/1 intervals. You cao do it. If you can finish 10 in training, you can do the half on race day.

You too! Keep bearing the torch~!

Thank you everyone. I wish I had some secret to my success, other than the assistance of the LapBand, but I do not except get up off the couch and do something. The only other real secret weapon is food tracking. In the beginning, you use a food diary to make sure you meet your calorie intake/ output goals, but later as…

No but only because she is a baby..lol...I would feel like a dirty old man. Beautiful young woman though.

YES...YES...YES! I was well over 300 when I ran my first one last May. I began running in January 2012 and literally could not run 1/2 a mile. I am down to 245 and just finished my first half marathon. I have a bad knee, herniated discs in my neck and back and a bad ankle. It hurts like hell, but I promise when you do it,…

In fairness, far better options exist now. I am banded and have had marvelous success. Most people who fail WLS do so because they do not follow the post-operative instructions. There is a very small percentage of people who encounter the experience described here. I certainly do not recommend anything more restrictive…

I wonder how many new friend requests this thread has generated lol

Ditto. If you think it is any sort of magic bullet you are wrong. In the beginning it works for most everyone and deceives you into thinking you can go on eating whatever you want in smaller quantities. If you are not willing to make the same changes before lap band than do not do it.

I use a combination of HRM and online calculators and adjust my time when I enter a workout into MFP to reflect an approximation. I used to always go with MFP but quickly determined it was bogus very often. That is why I tend to look at calories in/ calories out on a weekly basis rather than daily.

75 and sunny today in Texas. We will pay for it come August :/

If a change, no matter how radical, ruins a marriage, you should have never married in the first place. We are far too quick to throw a marriage away these days. A marriage is a covenant bond that should only be broken under the strictest circumstances and weight gain is not one of them. When you marry, you do so for like…

Ticker pretty much says it all. 12-14" in my waist, 12" in my chest, 3" in my neck.

I think people in general should be able to work out without being objectified. Women look at men at the gym also. As a typical male, I find it difficult not to observe members of the opposite sex working out when they wear gym clothes which barely cover their bodies. I never stare and try to be discrete because I know…

The problem with this entire discussion is that size is not a reliable indicator of health. Our society has co-opted size and health into a package which is used to market almost anything. The real danger is that we come to accept "bigger" without the qualification of healthier. It is most certainly possible for someone…
