Cindylynn, I wear a heart rate monitor (strap not the wrist) while I am strength training and it gives a pretty accurate measurement of calories burned during strength.

Though I have never worked out at a Planet Fitness before I have seen the Youtube video of the "Lunk Alarm Freakout". I guess certain Planet Fitness' have an ear piercing alarm that sounds when someone is lifting and grunts loudly? Anyways this video shows this meathead freak out on some poor Planet Fitness employee....

Water and sleep are the keys to a solid 6 pack? Guess I have been wasting my time running and doing crunches lol....good intent on the article, terrible delivery.

When I get to my ideal weight I will eat my exercise calories as I do not want to shrivel up into nothing. lol

Definitely not trying to shut anyone down! lol You stated your position, I stated mine and that's that =)

Interesting. I look at it a different way. They don't need or deserve my thanks anymore than I need theirs. We both signed up to do a dangerous job and one that we were paid pretty well for. Few people do these jobs because they are truly altruistic.

That sounds like an incredibly interesting paper to write! I bet you came up with all kinds of awesome primary sources to use! Good discussion and have a great rest of the day Whitney!

lol no it's not going south when people are requiring other peoples credentials to speak on a message board topic or when someone disagrees with you they are automatically considered a conspiracy theorist (note sarcasm) lol. Silly me for thinking folks could have civil discourse. I respectfully disagreed with your…

I have a feeling this is a hot button topic and judging by some responses this debate is headed south quickly lol

Whitney I completely BUT RESPECTFULLY disagree with you

You don't think there are chemicals in fast food or processed food for that matter? not trying to sound rude =)

I guess my point is getting mixed up here lol. Dang hard trying to emphasis a point online as opposed to in person. I won't muddy the waters by trying to further explain.

I think to assume she's a beneficiary of those benefits and thus her choices have a direct affect is a fallacy.

Jeff only the FDA knows, could be a competing product due to come out in a few months or any number of other things could be the incentive to ban it. Just playing devils advocate here.
-
Jeff right but the argument is still the same...If the government was truly concerned with the health of its citizenry then they would regulate them equally.
-
I think it's a great debate to have and like another poster pointed out my two examples may not be the greatest but it just highlights the issue at hand....
-
Jeff good points but I would argue that just because the FDA says something is bad for you doesn't necessarily make it true either. They are just as susceptible to special interest as any other branch of government.

Interesting point but refer to my fast food analogy and I think it "pushes back" to your point

Keeley isn't it amazing that they are soo quick to ban supplements deeming them a danger to your life yet a new Mcdonalds or Burger King is built every 2 minutes. Certainly fast food doesn't instantly kill you but in my humble opinion it's way worse of an epidemic for an obese country than supplements used to help folks.

Haha looks like that group doesn't show any love to the veterans ;)

I would not consider TRX for a beginner or even an intermediate weight lifter. Proper TRX workouts can be complex and without someone helping you with proper instruction it may do more harm then good. Also, keep in mind that TRX uses mainly your own body weight so while you may have graduated up from the beginner weights…

Technically running on a treadmill or outside is one of the worst things one can do to their back/knees , the shock and absorption of it takes their toll. I really encourage you to take up the elliptical for a while until the pain stops. The elliptical absorbs weight and impact associated with running and alleviates it…

The BIG DADDY tag has got to be the most hilariously tacky thing...I'd LOVE to see it on the road lol

I guess the one thing we can take from this discussion is the world is FULL of haters...

I'm a 6'2, 220 pound former United States Marine so when people see me drive up in my 2011 Honda Insite Hybrid they are kind of taken a back. It doesn't bother me cause I honestly could really give a f*** what people think and if they are going to prejudge me for the type of car I drive then that's probably someone I don't…

Depends on the equipment. Is it rusty, breaks often, looks unsafe OR is it just cheap looking and made by companies you've never heard of?

I stick with the mom and pop gyms. More so to help the fledgling economy than anything but I love the interpersonal relationship you develop with locally owned places.
