  • I wore Ice Grippers on my shoes last winter, I liked them better than Yak Traks. They were much sturdier and I found if I got onto dry pavement they weren't slippery. I ran everyday and never once came close to slipping. Remember wear reflective clothes and carry a light, maybe a headlamp.
  • Outside only I layer up on my clothes and wear Ice Grippers on my Trail runners. I run doesn't matter what the temperature is unless it is colder than -30 I want to be outside.
  • My friend that is a Mtn biking nut cross country skis in the winter for cross training. If you don't enough snow walking or running will get him outside. I road bike and do spin classes which I hate because they are inside, so I take to the trails and walk and run for my outside fix.
  • I know what you are saying I am really struggling right now as I have a foot injury that doesn't allow me much exercise. I swim and ride my bike and do spin class but I miss running. I am 61 and up until May of this year I was running daily then the injury happened and it has been hard. When I get my foot problem healed I…
  • I swim laps and also hate when people either stand or walk across my lane. We are lucky enough to usually have a lane to ourselves but we still get pool splashers that are there to play not swim. I wear a cap all the time and never have had a problem with my hair turning green. We swim outdoors year round in the Canadian…
  • Greeting card
  • So many of us over estimate how much we exercise and under estimate how much we eat. Weigh and measure all your food and wear a HRM to get a true calorie count as to how hard you are working out and burning.
  • A win is a win good for you. Welcome to the crazy world of racers now you are hocked.
  • I ran all winter last year and I live in the Canadian Rockies, I had a fear of falling after falling and breaking both my elbows in the last 5 years. I wore a good trail runner and then I bought at the running store Ice Grippers and they worked great. They just slipped on the shoe and they worked better than Yak Traks…
  • I run with a Garmin and use it to keep my pace, for me it really as I have no sense of time at all.
  • Never to late I started running at 57 at 58 did my first Triathlon and now at 61 I am laid up with a sore foot but I still swim and bike nearly everyday. Remember take it easy don't try to go to to fast to soon for to long.
  • Concentrate on distance and building endurance your speed will come. Don't worry if you have to take a short walk break, I know lots of runners that always run 10:1 even for marathons. You have to build up the base.
  • I agree the money is better spent on buying a real bike and a trainer. At least when the weather gets better you can still use it for riding outside. So many exercise bikes make great clothes racks. Get a video, Spinervals are great for a workout, ride your trainer along to the video. Spin classes are great workouts.
  • I only run on the streets alone never alone on the trails, here it us wildlife that keeps me off the trails alone. I will carry bear spray in the spring when I run trails.
  • Sorry I had a full list of winter running layers to write about but -1 I still run in shorts at -1. I don't wear long tights until it us at least -5. I know that is most likely feels cold and damp but there is nothing to worry about you can run anywhere at that temperature.
  • Take a break stretch and check that your shoes haven't given up on you.
  • Try to take the time to make sure you are organized fir your run before bed. Lay out your clothes shoes water etc so you are not strewing about where things are. Take a nice calming relaxing soak before bed to claim you down. You maybe worrying about over sleeping so try to get to bed early. Relax it is just a run and you…
  • Try to find some interesting trails to run on so much more fun than just boring streets.
  • I trained so hard to be in the best race shape for Triathlon season only to miss it all due to injuries from over training. I still can't run so I know how hard it is when you miss it like that. Take care of yourself and make sure you clear it with your Dr before starting any training.
  • I ran everyday last last winter in that temperature and colder. I dress in layers and I have a neck tube I pull up over my mouth when it is really cold. I love running in the winter so much easier to stay cool instead of boiling hot in the summer. I live in the Rockies so it gets cold and windy.
  • Put some hill repeats into your 5 K run they will help with the cardio and breathing. Sounds like a fun race good luck.
  • Remember biggest running issue and injuries are because" To fast, to far, to soon" increase gradually.
  • I feel for you I have been suffering with foot issue since the spring, I did do one Triathlon in June only because I had already paid and really didn't want to miss it. I lost the whole season and haven't been able to run walk or hike which are my true loves. I am able to swim we have 2 amazing outdoor pools to swim in all…
  • I had been running 3-4 days a week for about 4 years, I only did this spring summer and fall. I never ran in the winter but last year I joined a 30 day challenge and ran everyday in Dec then another challenge came up for Jan so I did it. I ran 115 days in a row and loved it but I started to have heel pain so I cut back to…
  • I wore my Mizuno Trail shoe with ice Grippers and Smart Wool Socks feet never got cold once and I never slipped once, I live in the Canadian a Rockies and it was cold and snowy here.
  • When I run in the winter I found the Smart Wool socks the best for keeping my feet warm. I also wear a pair of cheap gloves with a pair of mitts over top. I am on the warmer side of the Rockies but ran everyday last winter and never got cold.
  • Thankyou Cherimoose I will give it a try. Now going to watch the youtube.
  • I could have written those links that is exactly what I have or how it feels. I was reading them out loud and my husband was astounded at how the symptoms were mine. This is the first time anyone has said that is a possibility they all said PF except massage therapist he thought is was bone spurs so he sent me for X rays.…
  • Thankyou fir those links I am off to take a look, I was running everyday 115 in a row and biking and swimming and I am over 60 so that sounds like it could be more like it. I also work as a waitress in a very busy restaurant for now over 27 years. Feet have taken a beating.
