  • AllergyEats.com also has an App for Smart Phones, so I can search nearby restaurants when I'm traveling. And the more of those with allergies who use it and give feedback, the more useful it is.
  • For those allergic to peanuts - remember that they are in the same family with beans, not nuts, so you may need to avoid soy and other beans. I had a hard time convincing my husband not to have peanut butter in the house - and we tried various other butters. Finally, we found Sunbutter (made from sunflower seeds) and he is…
  • Bananas - so it wasn't a loss to find out I am allergic to them.
  • Potatoes are my favorite breakfast food-both regular and sweet, cooked any number of ways. Also, "Enjoy Life" makes a number of allergy free cereals and cereal bars that are actually quite tasty. I also like buckwheat which is not actually a wheat and does not contain gluten. I've even made buckwheat pancakes without eggs…
  • I'm Susan, and here's how I fount out what I was allergic to, and to what extent: About 2 1/2 yrs. ago I went on this crazy diet I saw online - a banana for breakfast, salad for lunch, and a light dinner. After the salad (which had fresh tomatoes), I became light-headed, dizzy, and nauseous. I went to my doctor and she…

I'm highly allergic to peanuts, MSG, citrus, citric acid, cinnamon, banana, cantaloupe, tomato, and shellfish. I'm moderately allergic to walnuts, egg…
  • I do mostly cook from scratch. Did fine with a pumpkin pie with ginger, allspice, and cloves (and wheatless crust). No one could tell there wasn't cinnamon.

  • My husband said "You're just getting fatter and fatter."
  • Did a little research yesterday, and cinnamon is not required to be listed on labels. It can be listed as "spices." No more eating anything that lists "spices" for me.
  • The best breads I have had (and can have) are from two bakeries in Florida: Sami's and Deland Bakeries. They're whole grain and don't contain citric acid like Udi's (which I'm highly allergic to. They're getting harder to find, especially fresh, so I may have to order large quantities direct from them.
