47 is a winning time! Awesome. Well above the average runner or first-timer
-
That is fast! I have been running for years and my best is 57 min. Average is an hour and change

For me, it requires massive calorie burning, like when I was training for Half IronMan triathlon and 100 mile bike rides. Burning 1000s of calories in each workout and always being at a deficit is the only way I have gotten my thighs to slim down.

Good news update! I just had my bloodwork done again and got my LDL down to 100 from 145 with no drugs, so I am no longer considered to have high cholesterol! Yippee!! So, I have answered my original question - YES it can be done with just diet and exercise. Thanks for all the comments, tips and info! I am excited.
-
That's what I was thinking. I will retry with cycle mode and HRM.

Thanks to everyone for the tips and info!

I totally agree with you. Unless you have high LDL and low HDL and bad triglycerides and high blood pressure, etc - most things can be managed better by improving diet and regular exercise

That is fantastic! Congrats! I need to schedule my follow up blood test, however the results of my calcium test and carotid artery tests showed I have zero calcium deposits on my arteries and zero blockage or narrowing, so I am not planning to take any meds.
-
well it must be genetic for me because I have never smoked, I have always been athletic and I am not overweight (not much any way... ). I still don't think it is a reason to take meds yet. I will see what the next test results say. Thanks!

too much to count and track! Ahh! :)

That is great! I am still struggling to keep sat fat down. I didn't realize how much I was eating. I guess awareness is the first step. I need to build a list of good things to eat. I am getting there!

Glad you got off the drugs. I am avoiding it unless there is some solid proof that it will keep me from heart disease or stroke. I am now awaiting the result of the carotid artery ultrasound to see if my arteries are pushing enough blood through (my non-scientific explanation).
-
That is awesome! I can't wait for my carotid artery ultrasound. Hopefully I will get the same results as the calcium test and next time I get the blood test it will be better, too! I suppose it's a bit of a wake up call now that I am over 40 and health is so lifestyle based. I am aware of my fat and calorie intake now so I…

Did you get any of the tests to see if you arteries are narrowed at all? I got the calcium deposit test and there are zero calcium deposits in my arteries, which is great. Next I want the carotid artery ultrasound to see if the blood is flowing well. I believe that if the arteries are clear, then there is no reason for the…

thanks for the book recommendation. I will look that up

I also like a nice warm herbal tea. you can add a little agave nectar to keep it low glycemic. Also snacks like celery sticks and carrot sticks are good to munch on
-
what do you think about adding flaxseed to things like oatmeal? is that the same as the pill? I just bought a bag of it.

thanks for that tip

drive thrus are usually no so good, though there are some good options

thanks! I got a fish oil from whole foods that they recommended. I need to test again to see if there is any change in LDL after a while of this and watching Saturated fat consumption
