I like it cut up with vegetables and a "gravy" served pot-pie style. Similarly, it also makes easy hand-pies.

I did try it for a couple meetings. There were all different sorts of people there, not just over-weight folks as you might expect. Ultimately I didn't stay with it because it seemed to me that there was no element of taking responsibility for your situation. The belief that they were "powerless" over food was very…

Sometimes I splurge on their egg white salads (spicy, or with chives). Their avocado hummus is pretty good too. And for the holidays, cocoa drizzle kettle corn. Everything in moderation! : )

Totally supportive! Feel free to add me. : )

Nope, sorry. I'm not much of a dessert eater (unless someone else makes it!)

"If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy." Not grammatically sound, but a truism nonetheless.

As someone who got married in a courthouse in a sort of slap-dash fashion, I'd advise you to not elope. Your family probably wants to be invovled. It's a special thing for parents (providing they like who you're marrying). And you might miss all the celebrating, gifts, well-wishes. It'll feel less special, maybe not right…

I'm ReturntoRural over on FitBit too. Just getting started but love my little gadget so far. Grow, flower, grow!

Welcome! Congratulations on your early progress! I also suffer from a number of ailments as well as depression and anxiety. Please feel free to send a friend request if you'd like. I try to check in every day.

Definitely talk to your psychiatrist about trying the lower dose for longer, just to give it a try. I know 75 or 150 is the typical optimum dose for effexor but if you do well on lower, try to stay there. But please be careful when stepping up/down on dosage on this Rx. Work with your doctor closely. It's a bear, really.…

oh, the Anjum Anand book looks fun and delicious! May have to give it a try. : ) Let us know what you think of it when you get it.

Can't say that I've heard of him or his books. I'll take a look at his website, though. I tend to stick to books and info by Dr. Lad and by Maya Tiwari.

The Chopra book is very basic but a good start for beginners. It contains a dosha quiz, some info on diet and supplements plus a small section on yoga poses. If you've already got any books by Dr. Lad, you probably don't need the Chopra book. Still, if you'd like to read it, you can probably find it at the library or…

That's great that you have a local practitioner whose guidance you can seek! Definitely let us know how it goes.

How's the hot water experiment going? I can say that I don't like it much but I do like the kapha tea recipe I shared. Served piping hot, it's spicy and delicious and does the hot water trick. I think hot water helps with my hunger and misreading boredom/discomfort with hunger.

I read in Perfect Weight that Dr. Chopra recommends sipping hot water every 30 minutes to dissolve and remove excessive Ama in our systems. While drinking hot water isn't my favourite thing (I prefer cocoa!), I think I'm going to give it a try. The book seems to say that it's a habit you'll grow to appreciate.

I could go for some bliss! : )

Just ordered the Chopra book! Thanks for recommending it!

I've also been using Ayurvedia: A Life of Balance by Maya Tiwari. It's a great resource and very thorough in its examination of the philosophy. I like the Lad's book more for the recipes, but Tiwari's book includes more info on daily sadhanas and the ideal daily schedules. She really focuses on the ritual of preparing…

It looks very similar to the charts I have in the couple Ayurvedia books/cookbooks I have. It's a good place to start! I haven't forgotten about the tea I mentioned yesterday. I'll post it this evening!

I hadn't heard of using a liquified diet once a week. That's an interesting idea. I did invest in a number of the spices mentioned. They certainly do jazz up any simple grain and veggie dish!. One of my Ayurvedic cookbooks has a wonderful kapha tea recipe that I enjoy and feel it helps with my digestion. I will try to…

Excellent! Do let us know how the schedule thing goes. I'm revisiting it myself and will check in periodically. : )

Thank you so much for sharing all this! I have read about the benefits of ginger (and other warming spices) in my Ayurveda books but still have a hard time getting myself to use it as it's not a favourite flavour of mine. Still, I enjoy tea made with pungent spices including ginger. Come to think of it, I haven't made my…

I'm restarting, too! Feel free to friend me if you'd like to support each other. : ) I've been here for a while and seem to do well in fits and starts. Sometimes I feel like I'm afraid to succeed at my weight loss efforts. What's that about?! t

I like the idea of dosha threads.

search the boards for "posting pictures" and you'll find a number of tutorial links. : )

I like the blue cheese version on celery sticks with a dash of sriracha!

I'm here every day! Feel free to add me.

My understanding of clean eating is that you aim to eat the most wholesome and natural foods possible. Avoid over-processed foods (white flour, white rice, junk food), and eat food in its most natural state. Focus on lean proteins, fruits, veg, grains and healthy fats.
