For most people with an overweight/obese BMI, losing up to 1% of your body weight per week is an achievable pace. And can be done with calorie counting alone, no need for restrictive diet plans.

I haven't given anything up. I enjoy it all in moderation. :)

I hear ya. We all have bad days. The key is getting back on the horse!

I did it for a year, it didn't work out for me and I regained the weight. I missed fruit, bread and pasta too much. Lost it all again with calorie counting. If you do want to try it, go for it. But it's not a magic weight loss bullet. :)

Worse nutritionally, sure. But if you're craving a couple Oreos, you could easily fit those 100 calories into your daily calorie goal. If you tell yourself "I'm not allowed to have Oreos anymore, they're unhealthy", you're way more likely to end up binging on them. I think it's better to allow yourself those little treats…

In the first half of your post, you say keto wasn't sustainable for you, and that you're a yo-yoer. Then you go on to ask for advice on how to formulate a very restrictive and unsustainable diet to start. Do you see the problem here? Forget "diets". You can eat whatever you want and if you're in a calorie deficit, you will…

Wow thats awful. Sending positive vibes your way! Best of luck with your recovery.

RE: hitting protein. There's lots of little sneaky way I get protein into my daily goal. - Mix protein powder into my Greek yogurt bowl - Use protein powder in baking recipes (protein muffins, pancakes, cheesecakes, etc.) - Choose the "High Protein" versions of prepackaged carbs (instant oatmeal, granola, pasta, etc.)

Diet breaks are recommended for anyone who has been eating at a calorie deficit for a while. Restricting calories can mess with hormone levels and diet breaks can reset those hormones and provide a nice mental break to boot.

Bingo. I do weekly meal-preps, and my only criteria for recipes is: - Must be able to freeze well and reheat well That's it. Make anything you want, as long as it'll taste good reheated in a microwave and won't do anything weird in the freezer.
-
I followed the recommendations and I have my first order of the MyProtein Whey coming. The price savings were fantastic.

Squats, lunges and deadlifts are great for building a booty. Keep in mind that during weight loss, your primary goal should be PRESERVING muscle mass. When you reach your goal, you can shift focus to either recomping or bulking to GAIN muscle mass.

If you're consuming the entire marinade, you'd log all the marinade.

It's kind of an active lifting class - my heart rate is definitely in the 'cardio' zone during most of it. Definitely much higher than during my walks. Which is why I'm confused.

I like Optimum Nutrition casein.

Just nod along until he stops talking... that's all you can really do, hah. Some people have some wacky ideas about weight loss and nutrition and there's no convincing them otherwise. It's unfortunate that he's in a position of guidance, because gullible people will believe everything he says... but as they say it's not…

Your macros can be anything you want. I'd recommend prioritizing your protein intake then playing with your carb/fat macros until you find something you like best. Most people should get 0.6 - 1g of protein per pound of body weight, depending on their activity level (more active = more protein). So calculate that first,…

You can create "Meals" of saved foods from the database if you regularly eat those things. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/meal/mine

I find that a good balance of protein, fat and fiber are the key components towards a filling meal. Protein: chicken, tuna, beef, pork, eggs, Greek yogurt, cheese Fat: Avocado, oils, butter, nuts Fiber: fruit, veggies, oatmeal, beans, legumes, whole wheat pastas & breads Some example meals: - Greek yogurt bowl with…

Are you prepared to give up those staples indefinitely? No? Then don't bother, honestly. I'm a carb-lover and no amount of keto substitutions would scratch that itch. I lose 20lbs with keto, then regained it when I returned to carbs. Now I've lost the same 20lbs again with plain old calorie counting, enjoying as many carbs…

You could always weigh the whole thing (unpeeled), write down that number, then eat the inside as usual. Then weigh the remaining leftover rinds and subtract that weight from the first one, to get the final edible portion weight. So if the whole grapefruit weighs 200g and the leftover rind weighs 50g, you ate 150g of…

Well... we don't know what you don't like, so it's hard to recommend things. Can you add a list of foods you like and foods you don't like? Or what textures you don't like?

I don't mind it. Following a recipe is easy. I like using my Instant Pot for a lot of my meal-prepping. Less cleanup, faster cook-time, great results.

I got to the last 10lbs from my goal then decided I'd like to increase my calories (from 1300 to 1600) and hit the gym. At this point, I think putting on a bit of muscle and losing weight slower will be a better transition for me and make me look better. I was getting sick of feeling hungry.

If your weekends aren't terribly busy, try once-a-week meal-prepping. I absolutely love it. I cook enough big batches on Sunday afternoons to last myself and my fiance the whole week. I divide them into portions and put half in the fridge and half in the freezer to keep fresh. Then we simply put them on a plate and reheat…

https://www.budgetbytes.com/ Buy in bulk if you can and shop the sales or reduced items. Rice, dried beans, tough cuts of meat, eggs, apples, bananas. Compare fresh vs. frozen produce prices and see what's cheapest. If you have a slow cooker, you can do a lot with those tough cuts of meat. Generally whole chickens are…

Yup, it's good. If you want to make it more chocolatey, just add some more cocoa powder to it.

I made a beautiful creamy tikka masala sauce... then thought "Hmmm, I'd like to add a bit of sweetness!". Dumped 2 tsp of Truvia into it and tasted it... waaay too sweet. Argh. On the bright side, it seems to have mellowed out quite a bit now that it's been in the fridge overnight.

Looks tasty... and dangerous, haha. I'm guessing 400 cals.

It's a bummer, but all you can really do is hope they see the light eventually on their own. Fad diets are like crack to the human brain. Just like "Get Rich Quick" schemes. If she fails enough times, hopefully she'll give calorie counting another shot. But trying to get her there yourself is an exercise in futility.
