  • I haven't read all the replies, but i see you are my age (I'm 48). I've been jumping around the thyroid readings for a couple of years and that caused some hair loss for me. Also, hormone levels can do that... sadly as we get older, this becomes a possibility..... definitely get some bloodwork done to find out what the…
  • I have noticed that when I eat a banana a day, I do not get cramps. When I go awhile without eating bananas, the cramps (charlie horses, toe-curling sometimes) come back.
  • I didn't used to, but then when I started, I realized how much I was not estimating correctly. For example, I would just pour in my coffee creamer and count it as one service (1TBS = 35 cals) and I logged it once. BUT when I measured it, I was putting in 2 TBS, for each cup of coffee and I had 2 cups in the morning. So I…
  • I love my dog with all my heart and soul - -but I'd never ask a friend (unless they were like-minded) if I could bring my dog over. By love, I mean that our dog sleeps in the bed with us, let her drink from my water bottle when we go on runs/walks. I do also have human children, but I truly love my dog too! Even when we go…
  • LOL - I an attest to the intest workout of marching band! My 16 year-old son is just started his 3rd year....they are in a 2-week 9 hours/day camp before school starts. In addition to practicing the music, marching and learning the field show, they have to run laps, do push-ups, sit-ups, planks, etc. He is sore and…
  • Don't think of it as a waste of time. Did you enjoy the workouts? The running? If not, if you thought it was "wasted time" maybe you should try an activity that you do enjoy - so you won't feel that way. Also, think of the exercise as doing something healthy for for yourself - maybe you weren't losing weight, but you were…
  • Potato chips. I can't have a full bag around me...
  • I think I know what you mean. I've never thought of gaining weight on purpose, though. But sometimes when I'm in my "poor me" mode I think that it would be easier to lose weight if I were heavier.... I am practically perpetually trying to lose the last 10-15 lbs. I guess It's because the more overweight a person is, when…
  • That's great! I hope to complete one at towards the end of September in under 35 minutes and no walking breaks (my previous effort was just over 35 minutes, with several walking breaks).

  • Great job! Have you thought of doing Couch to 5 K (C25K)? It is what I used to get running at the ripe old age of 46! I loved it! I also have to be careful - I have plantar fascitis, a bone spur and some hamstring issues (all on the same leg - bummer). Good luck to you....I think you will do great!:flowerforyou:
  • I'm 5'6", but a lot older than you. Several years ago, I made it down to 139, but my Weight Watchers leader warned me that it would probably be an unsustainable weight for me to maintain, and it was. I'm 152.2 now, and I would just like to stay below 150, so I don't have to tell people that number. Ideally, I'd like to get…
  • I don't know what your budget is, but I only pay a $50/yearly fee and $29.00/month at my local 24-Hour Fitness Gym and it has a pool. Do you have a YMCA in your neighborhood? I understand their fees are pretty reasonable. I have heard (but you should research this to make sure) that the recumbent bicycle might be good for…
  • <<<< Yep, Ginger sleeps with us. Sometimes she sleeps with my son (and he has a twin bed, so it's crowded). We also have a Dachshund that usually sleeps with my son as well.
  • I hear your pain. In my mind, the sports bra one of the greatest inventions ever (right after air conditioning). I also use the Moving Comfort brand. I tried one on and bought it in a running store, but then "added" to my wardrobe via only ordering. I only wish I knew about those things in high school and college (if they…
  • I don't like jelly, but I usually eat a whole grain English Muffin with peanut butter for breakfast. Maybe something like that with a dab of jelly to sweeten it up? I have a friend who puts a squirt of Hersey's chocolate syrup on her toast with peanut butter. When I have cereal, I have Chocolate Chex (gluten-free) or…
  • I've said this before.... whe I wasn't wegihing or measuring my food, only "eyeballing" portion sizes, I wouldn't lose weight. It wasn't until I starting weighing and measuring that I realized I was mostly estimating incorrectly. The one exampe I always cite in these discussions is my coffee creamer. It's 35 calories a…
  • Yikes! I was looking for help among my friends regarding HRMs and activity trackers.... now this topic is making me more indecisive! I know we want an accurate calorie burn, but I never "eat back" all of my exercise calories anyway (well, at least not intentionally)...
  • I used to be the same way..... sometimes I'm still that way. But, for some reason, I think age (or maybe life experience) has been an equalizer for me. I still view myself that way, but others tell me I'm a great people person and very friendly. Go figure - something positive about getting older!
  • Try this: http://www.fitbie.com/slideshow/standing-abs-workout?
  • I don't know if you are weighing and measuring your food....but for me, that has made a HUGE difference. I used to just "assume" I was eating a serving of something..... once I started to weigh and measure it, I realized myr assumption was inocrrect.... you know what they say about "assume".... For example, I'd just log…
  • I'm not sure what you mean by "Intuitive Eating", but when I was with Weight Watchers the said to really pay attention to how you felt... eat when you are "hungry", but don't wait until you are "starving". Also, to eat slowly and STOP when you feel comfortably FULL, not STUFFED. Even though I count my calories, I still try…
  • My son had a Rosy Boa as a pet for awhile.... I hated it,
  • Yes, I do go to the gym first thing in the morning (anywhere btwn 4:30-5:30)... I HAVE to drink coffee.... I don't set an alarm - I wake up on my own, so when I get going, I'm OK. I like to listen to Tom Petty, Mumford and Sons, Queen ('cause I love the "Fat Bottom Girls" song).... music makes the cardio (either treadmill…
  • My doctor (she's actually a physician's assistance/practical nurse) didn't say I was overweight (I'm not), but when I told her I felt "squishy" (because I'm not firm or toned), she did say, "Well, you ARE soft." I guess I was asking for it. Plus, she's uber-fit and in her 50s.
  • 1. I have a twin sister - we are fraternal (i.e., NOT identical) 2. I speak Spanish fluently - I'm a gringa (my hubby is from Mexico). 3. I started taking guitar lessons last summer - at the ripe old age of 47...I'm quite bad, but I've always regretted not being able to play a musical instrument. I'm my instructor's oldest…
  • I like chocolate and I have found that Hunt's Snack Pack Chocolate Fat-Free Pudding is yummy! It's about 90 calories for one of the little cups. I tried the sugar-free version and I didn't like it. The consistency was different. The FF version is nice and smooth. I love it! Good luck!
  • Exercise is great for some "mental health" issues...namely some depression. I can only speak for myself and some items I've read on the subject, but exercising always improves my mood. When I don't exercise, I sulk about it all day. If I get my exercise done in the morning (before work and the kids' things) I'm practically…
  • Yes, for me too it's always 2 steps forward and 1 step back. But hang in there.... you'll eventually get where you need to go, albeit slowly.
  • Ooo, I learned something new today!
