  • Don't give up! You are more than half-way there! Nothing worthwhile happens overnight. Just think in terms of "baby steps"...Thinking about a large number to lose is overwhelming....so maybe think in 5-pound increments, or weekly goals of maybe 1-2 lbs per week. As long as the scale is going down (even slowly) you are…
  • My digital scale always has me about 5 lbs more than my needle scale. When I get weighed at the doctor's, I'm usually closer to the digital weight, so I use that scale as my reference. I used to weigh myself on both scales, but I was driving myself crazy, so now I only use the digital scale.
  • Being brave is doing something that you are afraid of, but you know it has to be done....so you are brave! :flowerforyou:
  • My husband and I own our own business too, but we don't deal with the general public - our customers are other companies and public agencies, ,etc. Our work is pretty specialized and our technicians have many years in the industry, we've sent them for various training, certifications, etc. But people think that because…
  • Do you have access to an elliptical or a recumbent bicycle? Those are supposed to be great exercise machines for your joints (not to much pressure on them). When I had hurt my leg and foot (from running), the physical therapist told me to use the recumbent bicycle. I did, but I prefer the elliptical. Good luck! I would…
  • Good for you with the job! I would recommend you wear a step counter to see how many steps you take in a day. I think that seeing that number would be a mood booster for you and maybe motivate you some more.
  • I don't have any advice for you but I just wanted to say that it sounds pretty great! I go a gym and whenever I've done something with a personal trainer, the try to get you to "buy" more...more sessions, supplements, etc. I think going to the Y is a great idea and 12 weeks is quite a long time. Good luck to you!
  • I sometimes chew sugarless gum to keep me from snacking. Also, (since you want something more than veggies and fruits) maybe a really chewy piece of candy, like taffy or carmel or something - they're not too high in calories and it takes a while to finish one.
  • LOL! That's great! I used to be "top heavy" but then the rest of me caught up! Now I'm trying to get "it" back! Good for you!:flowerforyou:
  • There will always be stress and drama in life. I'm 48, the mother of two, run a business with 6 employees with my husband and I get stressed all the time. Can we make payroll? Pay the health insurance? Meet all of our customer's needs....etc. The house is a mess, have to take the kids here and there, have to worry about…
  • I was very lucky - I had my gallbladder removed 10-12 years ago. Never really had any problems, but I do try to watch the "fat" intake, just in case, as fatty foods can cause problems. Hang in there, it will get better!
  • I saw that too! I've never cared for Dr. Oz (or Dr. Phil, for that matter, either!)
  • Yep, C25k is great! That's how I started at the ripe old age of 46!
  • All I can say is, how can you stand to swim in cold water? We have our own built-in pool - it's very large and too expensive to heat with our gas pool heater. As much as I like swimming, I can't stand to get in the water when it's too cold. I just can't tolerate being that cold.
  • I'd like to lose 5-10 pounds - I'm in my O.K "range", albeit on the higher end. It's like trying to lose "those last 10 pounds" forever!! I just can't seem to get it done....or if I do go down some, I pop right back up.
  • I hardly do anything on Facebook - I only joined less than a year ago.... I like MFP because we all have the same goal, and that is our common thread. I also like that my friends on Facebook are so diverse - gender, age, race, weigth, fitness level and even geographically! Finally, I do like that I don't really "know" my…
  • Yes, I have notice this as well. However, I have to say that, by the time I leave the gym (or come back from a run/walk) I am sweating profusely and my face is the color of a very ripe tomato. I think that means I'm hitting the mark most of the time. LOL
  • I have been married for 24.5 years. My husband and I, in our bare feet, are the same height. For many years, he weighed less than I did (10-20 lbs), not much. But it always bothered me. His family would call him "Flaco" ("skinny" in Spanish - I wonder what they called me in their heads). But, age is the great equalizer -…
  • I'm not really much of a soda drinker, but what I've done for years is only order water to drink when I go out to eat. Or if it's fast food, I just get a cup for water. I sometimes have a hard time getting in my water for the day, and this helps. Also, it would bug me to pay $2 or more for a soda that's mostly ice…
  • I do wall push-ups! My wrists can't handle floor push-ups (and even if they could, I still couldn't do them). But at the gym there a wall with a little ledge that's between my belly-button and my chest (height-wise) and I do my push-ups there. I can really feel it in my triceps, so I know I'm doing them correctly.
  • I am "hippy" too. I know we can't "spot reduce", but if we can burn more fat overall, some of it will come off the hips. So I'm trying to do more strength training in addition to cardio.... my pants are usually OK in the waist, but pulled tighter in the hip-butt area and that's keeping me out of 8s (I toggle between 8s and…
  • That's wonderful! You are truly inspiring!:drinker:
  • Don't be embarrassed! I started running at the ripe old age of 46 (I started with the C25K program... I still jiggle! I know I look goofy sometimes, but I don't care! We usually worry so much about what people will think of us, when in fact, they aren't thinking of us at all or maybe just fleetingly. Anyway, chances are…
  • I have done stretching exercises, which has helped greatly. There's a series on PBS (and on DVD) that's all about stretching and relieving pain... Classical Stretch. Non-impact. Really, look into it.
  • Yes, it can still be uncomfortable. As a bigger-busted person, I can tell you that and also say that one of the greatest inventions ever in my opinion, is the sports bra (right after air conditioning). I wish I knew about sports bras back in high school (I don't know if they existed then - back in the 80s...) But my lack…
  • I ran/walked 4.03 miles (54 minutes) with my Ginger (dog) this morning!
  • One of my favorite books of all time is A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. I also love The World According to Garp (I could laugh and cry on the same page - it was amazing). I like a lot of Stephen King books, too, but not the too "monster-y" stories.... The Stand was great and so was The Green Mile. I'm now reading…
  • That's great! I have had to dismount my bike and walk it on hills, so kudos to you!! You are getting stronger and healthier!:flowerforyou:
  • No, don't feel ashamed! You did great! I was never a runner either. I started the C25K program at the ripe old age of 46. It took me 12 weeks to complete because some weeks were too difficult for me and I had to repeat them (or parts of them) until I felt ready to move on. Doing something is better than nothing, and you…
