Good luck! I'm 53. As long as you log everything and measure and weigh your food/drink so you know how much you are actually eating (eyeballing it or "guesstimating" doesn't cut it) you should be good. They say that food (diet) has more impact than exercise so maybe you might want to concentrate on that for a while. I know…

Your plan looks good! I eventually made it to 10k and my goal now is to 1) improve time for 5 and 10ks and 2) work up to 1/2 Marathon, which I'm planning to do at the end of March. BTW, I'm a "old *kitten* mama", lol, I'll be 53 this month and I didn't strart running until I was 46.

I was worried about the amount of wine I was drinking (if I had a bottle at home, I'd drink the whole thing once I opened it). I've decided for now not to keep any wine in the house because I don't trust myself. I last drank a whole bottle of wine on Thanksgiving and except for last night (I had one glass of wine when I…

You are just like me. I am 52, have a low thyroid and take medicine. I run and I am trying to get ready for my first half-marathon in Decmeber. Yesterday I ran 7 miles and it was tough. I started running later in life (at 46) and although I'm doing better, it's slow progress and I ache quite a bit too. But, when I do…

So happy for you and your wife! Keep it up and keep it off!

When I belonged to a gym, I took a few of the Body Pump classes and I really liked them. I also recently came across their "On Demand" videos and thought about signing up, but then I hurt my back and I'm trying to focus on strengthening my back and core right now. But I was very interested!

Good luck to you!! Our health is so important! We have to do the best we can with what we are given.
-
Welcome aboard! This is a great site! Even for just trying to stay healthy (not only to lose weight).
-
I have gone a week without any alcohol. My goal is to get to the 4th of July and then I may have a glass or two of wine. That will have been 2 weeks without alcohol.
-
I run too and I'm don't lose weight just running. I have to track my food, eat healthy and do some strength training to actually lose weight. I want to lose weight to be a better runner - I don't run to lose weight. I run for my mental health.

I'm in! We have a 5k on Saturday and then I'm revving up for a 10K mid-May.
-
I'm in {again}. The first half of the month was an epic failure for me, so I'm seeing how I can do one week at a time. I started yesterday. No wine!
-
I'm in! I don't drink wine every day, but when I do (on weekends) I usually go through a whole bottle in one night. Not good. I'm not going to "abstain", but I will definitely cut down. No bottles in the house - just a glass or two if we go to dinner for a special occasion (our anniversary is on Saturday, lol).
-
I'm in! I usually only drink wine on the weekends, but I tend to overdo it. It just doesn't go with my whole "trying to be healthy".
-
That's great! You and your wife are not only inspirational as individuals, but as a couple, too! You show that the mutual support reaps mutual benefits! Great teamwork!
-
I've been doing this too. I'll usually just drink wine on the weekends, but if I open a bottle, I'm apt to finish the whole bottle in one evening. This then lowers my inhibitions about evening snacking and the next thing I know I'm scarfing down candy corn or some chips in giant handfuls. So now, I just have a cup of…

I suck at running too. Literally. I suck so much air when I'm running I think I'm going to hyperventilate. BUT I don't want to stop running (or run-walking). For some bizarre reason, I sorta-kinda like it. But I'm in worse shape than you... I'm 51 years old and weigh 155. I'm 5'6". I'm trying to lose weight so that running…

I have both of his books (Yayog and Body by You) but I feel stuck trying to get started. It seems complicated to me, but maybe if I had the DVD I could follow it better.

Make sure you are weighing and measuring everything. Sometimes we think we are eating the proper portions, but without weighing or measuring, it's really a guesstimate.

I have a Vari-desk, but then I'm my own boss and can have whatever I want in the office, lol. I try to get up at least every hour to get a drink of water and move around, but I really feel like I'm chained to my desk when I'm in the office. When I need to talk to my assistant, I get up and go to her work area instead of…

Good for you for quitting smoking! That is quite the accomplishment. But I know that it probably doesn't help with eating for now. We too fall into the "grab something on our way home" routine because with work, school, kid activities, it's HARD to make dinner at times, let alone one that's healthy and EVERYONE will like.…

I have the same issue....I'm 51, 5'6" and weigh 155. I've been trying to get below 150 for years... (at least I haven't gained). BUT I do notice that when I weigh and measure everything and log accurately, the scale goes down. The thing is I usually sabotage myself when I get to about 152. I'm trying now to focus on fat…

Sort of. I found that if I chew gum, I don't take BLTs. Or, if I brush my teeth, I don't want to stink up my breath again, so I don't take BLTs, LoL. Whatever it takes!

Keep going! I struggle too with "complacency". I'm not obese, but I'm on the very high end of a healthy weight. I feel uncomfortable sometimes (every time I bend down I grunt, lol), but I get stuck in a frame of mind that "Well, things could be worse, so why bother trying to improve". Then my weight does start to creep up,…

I am a big fan of pinto beans. My hubby is from Mexico and were a staple for him growing up. I just boil them with a little salt.... yummy! I even love the bean "juice". Great source of fiber too! You can also "smash" them to make faux refried beans (I don't like to add oil or lard to my beans). A bag of dry beans (that…

Can you use the elliptical? I love it (although I like running more, but I use the elliptical several times a week to give my old body a rest from running). I heard once that the recumbent bike is good for knee issues..... or any bike? Maybe your doctor or a physical therapist can give you suggestions. Great job getting…

OMG, I have a WW scale too and I thought the same.... sometimes for several days in a row my weight is the same.. down to the decimal.
-
I just did this now at work, LOL

I'm the same height and I'm aiming for 149, just to get out of the 150s. I'm about 157 right now.... :(

I just had a mishap with my dog yesterday....he tripped me while running, and I went tumbling. But my other dog, a lab, is great at running with me. Definitely use the Gentle Leader... he may not like it at first, but every time you put it on him, give him treats, praise and walks and he'll associate it with good things.
