Yeah, so what's up with that? They either do or don't, very little middle ground but it's mostly don't I would say. It's why I learned along time ago to do things for yourself and this is one of them, being part of this community.

Baked sweet potato...bananas...low sodium V8 vegetable juice....DO NOT TAKE POTASSIUM supplements. If you're doctor finds out, he will beat you about the head and shoulders. I've been told you only take those under a doctor's strict watchful eye. I won't post any links just Google the dangers of potassium supplements.

I keep it simple too.... 1 scoop Optimum Nutrition Chocolate (whatever flavor chocolate I feel like buying) 1 bottle Dean's Low Fat Chocolate Milk Chug(16 fl. oz) Shaker cup and I'm good to go. All I can say about whey protein is it works for me. I'm not as sore the next day and it's helped me build lean muscle

Truthfully, PT hasn't helped me much. Only thing that works is rest and the Celebrex Rx my doctor gave me. I ran some 5Ks at the end of last year as physical challenge, to see if I could do it. Joint pain is never a good thing so you were good to cut back. I'd talk to you doc, because I had similar pain from running. Do you stretch before you run? It could be tight hamstrings and IT band as was my problem. Some therapy and strengthening exercises fixed me up real good.
