Haven't tried Kale but have tried Chard which I think are similar.

Safely, they say you could expect to lose 1lb per week. So it's certainly possible. You probably know that to lose weight, you must use up more calories than you take in but it's not all diet. It's exercise too. Talk to your doctor first about starting a diet and exercise routine, but you can do this for sure. I lost my…

Chocolate milk (no-fat) and whey protein for me. I never craved sugar but I craved salt but not anymore. I think as time goes by, like mine, that craving will pass.

I never thought it was a good idea to exercise before you ate something. In the warmer weather, I'd go for a mile or so run before breakfast and all I felt afterwards was light headed. You have no fuel in the gas tank so you can't win the Indy 500 on an empty tank. I agree with eating soon after though, eat a normal size…

I've got it! A Lottery winner !

Since I"ve lost 30+ lbs, I've actually cut my BP meds in half and that dosage to begin with was the lowest dosage. I can talk to him, some of the trainers at the health club I work out at were actually shocked I'd ask the question.

Since one of the ways Creatine works is to retain water by pulling water into muscles, what are everyone's thoughts on using it if you have Hypertension, even mild hypertension? Or if you are on HBP meds?

I think BMI is a pile of hooey. Think about it, most professional athletes are considered obese by those standards. I don't pay attention to BMI because it doesn't take into account muscle. So its not accurate. Body Fat Percentage and Hip to Waist Ratio would be better.

The workout program I use now is based off of one of his. He has another website; askscooby that is more of a message board and I modified one from there. His advice is no nonsense, just good all around advice.

You are welcome !

I use Optimum Nutrition also. One reason being is Consumer Reports did a story on protein powders and their safety. They found that ON protein powders were the safest; few heavy metals, bad stuff, etc. Just Google "optimum nutrition consumer reports" They are the only ones around here too that are available just about…

MFP = Myfitnesspal :-)

Good luck to you and your journey and welcome! MFP works since it forces you to watch what you eat, literally. It's not just the food you eat, it's exercise too. Good luck and have fun !

My Avatar says it all ! Go Hawks !!

The bodybuilders says 1-1.5g of protein per pound of body weight. Everyone is different and since I'm not a doctor or dietician, I'd say talk to your doctor first. Adjust your protein intake for sure. I'd start there.

Part time runner here...5Ks are good enough for me...Serious case of runners knee at the moment. Feel free to add me if compatible. Always looking for more friends!

Feel free to add me!

Not what sure what you mean by "go"? If you mean lose your gains if you are talking muscle gain or add weight (fat) if you stopped your diet and exercise program then I guess the answer would be "it depends". It depends on how far along you were when you stopped, what you stopped for (injury?) and what your body was like…

Yeah, lost 20+ pounds since December. I do go over my carb limit from time to time so I will watch that too. The sugar is from fruit but I eat that for the potassium(hypertension), probably just one serving now at breakfast only.My waist is 35 inches just below the navel(I just measure) so I have some more to go. I'll see…
-
Most of my "sugar" comes from my food like I said, mostly fruit; bananas, berries, etc. I also drink orange juice, about 1 cup a day. I look at my diet and don't see much I can cut. Pizza once a week, I guess. My waist is close to 31.5, need to remeasure and check. So if I can't eat grains, how do I keep my cholesterol in…

I think I figured this out and in fact, I wind up adjusting my caloric intake up. See if this makes sense. My Calories Goal should be 2189. According to the Harris-Benedict formula, I need 2689 calories to "maintain", which seems high. The formula then says to adjust down by 500 calories to lose 1 pound of fat every 7…

So I was at 2000 and the calculator says 1722. I could give it a shot and see what happens.I've changed my diet throughout though but it's worth a shot.

Thanks for responding. I hit the gym at least 3 times a week so maybe more? I've heard 1800 is as low as I'd want to go

bump...anyone?

But doesn't Fitbit integrate somehow with MFP?
-
Oh yeah...they have Lou Malnati's too.
-
Well, this looks different. How would we track the workouts on MFP though?
-
Yes I saw that too. I was surprised to see how "good"? an Italian beef sandwich was. I thought it was be loaded with Sodium and it wasn't all that bad. Whoever put it in there, I hope its right and keep up the good work !
-
I guess for sugar my feeling is as long as it isn't from sugary snacks, table sugar and the like, i'm ok. MFP is set to 37 mg for me. On sodium, I keep have it set to 1500 mg. My potassium is set to 4700mg but as long as potassium and sodium balance, I'm ok too. In other words, sodium intake is 1500mg but potassium intake…

Yes these are my trouble areas as well. I am usually over on both and if it's "Pizza Friday" or "Buffalo Wild Wings Thursday"...well...fuhgeddaboudit! I can kill my sugar intake for the day at breakfast alone if I have a banana and 1 cup of 100% fruit juice. I don't worry too much about them but like the original poster…
