My mom's osteoarthritis improves dramatically for her when she eats better and exercises. (when she went on vacation for a week, her pain came back)

i was just going to say - get a trainer if you can afford it! sounds like you just need the motivation and confidence and a trainer can get the ball rolling.

i got a fitbit flex almost exactly a year ago - i still love it. anyone want to friend me on there and join some challenges, my email is kparr25@aol.com

i almost got that one...but online it made it look like it was only compatible with Apple products. So I got a fitbit. I love my Flex, (even though I normally don't wear a watch, i got used to it very fast.) and i really like the sleep feature. Flex doesn't count stairs, which I wish it did. Fitbit can sync to newer…

that's how i feel! I can't get up any earlier...I'm already not getting enough sleep. I try to just get enough steps in during the day and do more substantial workouts on the weekends. or at least once or twice during the work week i'll force myself to the gym.

hehe, i like those ideas!! I'm going to try the dumbbells by my computer/couch for little breaks! :)

for the people bashing this post.... It does make sense, because usually when you DO cut down carbs, you tend to eat fewer calories anyways. Since carbs are an easy way to fill up calories. So that's probably why that article says that the way they do. When I cut out most grains and treats, I had a harder time eating…

^^agree...sounds like you are working out enough...my trainer told me toning is 80% DIET. I see flatter tummy when I cut my carbs...at least processed stuff. Try eating 'cleaner' less processed. and less carbs.

the logging under the strength section is more as a journal to log what you do exactly...i see it as more of for your personal info - if you are working towards lifting a certain weight or what-not. log it under cardio section so you count those calories you burned! (also...weight training you usually burn more calories…

small tip: in terms of your yogurt, try Kroger /King Soopers brand yogurt, "Carbmaster" - its low in sugar, higher in protein!! It helps me keep my protein up and simple carbs down. and It tastes as good as any other yogurt. Or try plain greek yogurt...less sugar and a TON of protein in a serving...if you can stand the…

@Tina Bailey - good for you!! Your journey is so motivating and much more impressive than me, since I never had to struggle with my weight. Thank you for the positive experience! :)

I was wondering about this, since I tried the ~1200 cals last summer, did lots of biking, and stayed at 109-112 the whole time with no changes in appearance and measurements. Then I started lifting this year, bumped up cals to closer to 1400-1600, and my weight is staying around 115. again maybe slightly improved…
-
thats what I started doing....maybe not as strict, but I have been trying to eat 'clean' lately...minus the last few days. :o
-
you wont gain bulky muscle. and if your calves look big, they probably just still have some fat that needs to be lost. Keep up the strength training, keep a small calorie deficit, maybe cardio if you like to do that, and you will not bulk up....unless you are taking steroids or something.
-
very interesting...all I can say is that I'm grateful I've always been 'naturally' at a healthy weight. And yes, I agree with what other people are saying... when you 'diet' to loose weight, that 'diet' is not temporary...it must become your way of life. hence, crash diets never work for long.
-
this is the where the phrase, "eat more, weigh less" comes from. Your body needs more nutrients and cals. bump it up to at least 1200, and see how that goes.
-
oooh! good for you!! I hope I can say that one day...
-
<--- hehe..? jk I don't call myself "skinny"...
-
since you are vegan, this might be more difficult... but for me, I notice improvement when I cut down on carbs...i noticed you seem to eat a lot of sugar (all the fruit, and cereal). maybe try out less carbs for awhile to see how that works for you?
-
what about starting out with some hand weights at home?
-
wow, really like that site's explanation! Now I have a maybe better guess as to what I burn on a normal daily basis.
-
don't be afraid to eat some more. with emphasis on healthier options. :) also, more protein and fiber in the diet keeps you fuller longer. carbs= hungry for more carbs (sugar and starch that is)
