  • It’s the day before the day before the....well anyway have a powerlifting meet on Saturday. Did all three opening lifts last night. Tonight, per Coach’s orders, pretty much sitting on my ___ (*kitten*). Made a nice dinner of ooh guess what ground turkey and vegetables. Happy Humpday tomorrow cool ones!
  • Or don’t. Your choice, sweetie. Love
  • This stuff. Game changer! Get it!
  • LOL, actually, and although I have plenty of fluff to lose, I've been steadily but very slowly gaining weight. I've also been going down in clothing sizes. It was messing with my head to a serious degree! I started getting quarterly DEXA scans...at your local university, they likely have a program where they scan not just…
  • Re. overpowering it, yes, I totally want to use my back and arms and I don't give my legs the time they need. I'm starting to develop the correct muscle memory. I'm sure there's other things I could improve as well. I did get out of breath on that 2000 though. It would be good to have maybe some cardio fitness.…

  • Day 2 of erg class in the books. Day 1 they mostly corrected my form. I tend to want to overpower it...lol no surprise there. I was practicing what I'd learned at the weightlifting gym last night. Coach walks in, sees me rowing approximately 3000x better, nods and say "F yeah". So I guess he's more okay with it than…

  • So yesterday, in the eyes of USA Weightlifting and also. USA Powelifting, I turned 60. (for competition purposes, on Jan 1 you are the age you will become in that calendar year. ) I am now officially in the “oh you’re still breathing? Great! Come to the National Champs” division. Kind of excited! My old trainers comment…
  • I found a new gym I connected with better. Also, I only do exercises that I enjoy. I find cardio and cardio classes boring, yoga is a big nope for me too. I lift. I got into powerlifting about 4years ago. I find it really motivating— the other lifters and my coach are all very encouraging and keep me heading back every…
  • This will be unfortunate news for my lifting coach who uses woo when you make a particularly good lift. Honestly, devs (including this dev) can define stuff however they want, but that’s teenage stuff. Woo, awesome, and like just mean what the word says.
  • Goals for 2018: Improve my cardio endurance. This should be easy because right now I have none. Lol Increase my deadlift to 300 lbs from current 270 Improve my clean/jerk to 50 kg Actually be able to do a snatch. 25kg would be great there. Lose more fat, keep adding muscle. Get into to 72kg weight class. Do one dang…
  • I got not one but two “whoooos” tonight from Coach. When I asked if my clean&jerk was okay, he said of course yeah, we don’t give out those very often. Lol Seriously though no idea what I’m doing when it comes to the Olympic lifts. I don’t care. I have fun.
  • After two almost three days of eating all the things, back to the program tonight. Deadlifts, working set 3x1@110kg. Easy peasy but I complained to Coach it felt heavy. He said it went up fast, what’s my deal. Lol. Also, drove over to the boathouse to see where it is (nowhere!), I start rowing…
  • I will! I'm so nervous about it. lol I did buy a new pair of workout leggings from Virus, they are warmer weight. Mainly for lifting but I will try them for rowing. At the very least, I will learn how to properly use a rowing machine...at my gym, we have MMA and boxer guys doing conditioning work. They row a lot better…

  • I drive about 45 minutes each way to my gym, lol. I probably pass 50-100 different workout places on the way. Coach Ben is worth it. He has folks that drive a lot further than me once a week. I go every day. Bottom line is results, however you get them, right?
  • I'm so impressed by the dedication of those of you doing BB stuff! It's amazing! I was never able to keep it up. I need to be in a gym surrounded by people that make me compete. Just wasn't my speed I guess. Tonight is bench press night, not my favorite, but I'm determined to make my weak left arm shape up. It's going to…
  • This past week we did all 3 reps maxes so coach can determine our openers for the meet in 4 weeks: Squat 143 lb Dead 231 lb Bench 95 lb (I will be in Masters 3a female.)
  • Low bar back squat last night, 65kg for a triple. I’m definitely getting stronger and also more skilled at the lifts.
  • Yahoo! Second dexa scan done. Changes: Gained 2% bone density Lost 4lbs fat (down 2.7%) GAINED 5.74 lbs muscle Net change: gain of ~2lbs I'm super happy! Though honestly my goal was to lose weight. Whatever.
  • I’m in NorCal, seasonal temps this time of year at 5am are in the high 30s.

  • A few thoughts pretty much in random order, as random is how my mind works 1) I wish I lived somewhere where I could snowshoe without driving to the Sierra 2) I am happy I live in California though 3) Rowing season here starts January 1 at 5 am lol 4) I'm super excited but also nervous as I found out sometimes if there's a…
  • Yeah, definitely going shopping! Thank you for all the info!

  • Thank you! I will do some shopping over the holidays and try to find some tighter fleece. I've been, well not losing weight, but getting thinner. My lifting coach is very good at his job and I've been getting a lot stronger, so my weight hasn't changed a whole lot. Sweats that fit last winter just don't this year. Good to…

  • Four weeks out from my powerlifting meet. Coach has us on a prep program as of last night. I was super depressed last week when I could barely pull 113 kg on the deadlift. I pulled 122.5 in a meet in September! Being sick for over a month has really impacted my strength. But LAST NIGHT, I did better! Program was for a 3…
  • Yes, I can. My only real mobility problem is the overhead squat, and really the problem there is between my ears lol. I squat *kitten* to grass too, I’m oddly proud of that, this almost 60 year old can do what many of the 20 somethings cannot. TeamOldFarts!
  • Front squats last night 3 sets of 5 at 38kg. Thought I was going to die. But I didn't. I have had a cold or recovering or another cold or recovering since Halloween. I'm pretty weak, but I have a meet mid January and I'm going no matter what. In my division, which I like to call the "Are you still breathing? Great! Come to…
  • I’m sick AGAIN. Seriously? Dilemma is this: this week is max the (F) out week. Test new max for deadlifts, bench, front squats. Got a 10kg improvement with back squat last week, now at 70kg. I was REALLY looking forward to retesting my limits. My coach is in a National level competition next weekend though. I don’t want to…
  • Can I ask you about rowing? I signed up for a class starting Jan 1...our rowing season is Feb to June I think. The January class is all machines, then if you are not dead yet you can sign up for a novice season. I'm excited...pretty sure I'm strong (I am a powerlifter). Not excited about getting up at 3:30 but it's only 3…
  • I've done two real meets and a non sanctioned deadlift only. The first meet I won three samurai swords. The second meet I won two sort of ugly hunks of metal, ie trophies. My next meet is in January and they are giving axes away to the division winners. I really really want an axe. Here's hoping. If not, I'll settle for…
  • Powerlifting style back squat tonight, new PR! 70kgs, up from 60 about 4 weeks ago. Super happy. Yes, below parallel, I plan on competing next month. That’s about 154lbs.
